I need some funny games and and favors for a surprise 50th birthday party...help!!?

Mandi B

My mom is turning 50th next month and has special requested NOTHING BLACK. Soooo, of course i'm throwing a huge surprise party, putting on the invitations for everyone to dress in black, bring only gag gifts, and decorate all in black (hey, she has it coming).

But i need some funny games to play, and things to hand out to all the guests. Any ideas?

Or has anyone had a 50th bday party and has any good ideas or advice?

Thanks!

Answer
I had a 60th for my mom and I did it in elegant pink and purple because I didn't want any of that tacky crap. Why have people waste money on stupid crap that she'll never use or even want!? Way to make her feel OLDER by buying her depends and a cane! I suggest to change your plans to something your mother will really enjoy- a nice party!
But, back to plans for the event whatever you choose to do- we just had the party at a local restaurant with a party room, they did all the food and we brought in the cake. food was great, we had a sit down dinner for about 35 people, we held it the weekend before her birthday and just told her we were taking her out to eat, she was so surprised once we walked in and she saw everyone! I made a picture board of pictures throughout the years and she had a blast showing off the pictures to everybody and talking about them! I also got a book online from the year she was born that talked about world events and movies of the time and stuff. i had a small candle on each place setting as a party favor for the guests and decorated the tables nice with fake flower petals and candles and lilies in bud vases. total the party was $1000

My mom and her twin brother are turning 50 this year and i am having a surprise party for them!! what would be a really cute way to write it on the invitations!!??

Answer
When my grandparents had thier party my mom went to Office Depot or Kinko's and had help with an employee. They showed her differnt layouts and stuff and it cost less than $20 for 100 invites. Good Luck!!! Ohh... What my mom did was put an old picture of them on the front and the date underneath and then inside a picture of them now and all the information about the party. Good Luck!!!

Indian 50:th birthday party?

Meifa

Hi all,
Me/husband got invitation to attend my husband's employee's mothers birthday party. The person in question is Indian.

Where I live (in Europe), we don't invite colleagues to family celebrations, so this came as a surprise. It would be pretty cool and very interesting to be on a Indian party, but at same time, we want to be careful about unwritten cultural rules.

Is this is courtesy gesture of the Indian culture and we are supposed to refuse the invitation?
If we go, how are we supposed to behave as "the son's boss"?
Also, what kind of gift/value are we supposed to give? 50:th birthday must be pretty big thing.

Any advices, suggestions, tips welcome!
(The country in question is South Africa)

Answer
South African indians are quite laid back and dont worry about any "rules" just behave as you would at any other birthday party , greet , chat , make yourself comfortable ,
When it comes to Food , Im sure that not everything will be hot and spicy , when we invite someone , we make sure we cater for their need , in an Indian function , everything can go wrong , but the food must be perfect and everyone must be catered for , so i dont think food will be a problem. With regards to a gift , A scarf as mentioned is a good idea or even just a gift voucher will be fine.
The most important thing is to just enjoy and have fun.

What are some good theme ideas for a surprise 50th birthday party?

I'm throwing a surprise party for my mom who will be 50. Any good ideas you've heard of for themes for a 50th birthday party.

Answer
Make it a destination party. Love to ski, then head to the mountains.

Take a cruise. "Destination parties" are popular and travel agencies compete to find the cheapest packages.

Enjoy music and theatre, go to New York and take in the symphony or Broadway.

Love the islands, go to Maui.

If you need to stay closer to home and cut the costs think about having a "This Is Your Life Party" at the recipient's favorite restaurant. Decorate to the nines, have a slideshow from birth to the present, have people give speeches and roast the birthday person.

An Over the Hill Party equipped with black decor and foods, along with all the grim-reaper accents. Everyone comes dressed in black. The guest of honor may be picked up in a hearse. You could do a more modern version of the Over the Hill Party and have a sit-down dinner affair equipped with elegant black and silver serving pieces. Hang classy black lantern lights and serve a elegant fondant cake with black accents.

How about a Golden 50th soiree. Send out formal invitations, fancy set table, lots of gold table decor (candlesticks, silverware, napkin rings, etc.) Make sure the cake is an extravaganza. Perhaps a white cake with gold icing or a dusting of gold decorating glitter.

Wine and cheese tasting party with lots of fancy crackers. Decorations should be classic with linen tablecloths, crystal, china, silver, etc.

A 70's costume party which would have an emphasis on the birthday person's hay-day. Or opt for another era like the roaring 20's, fabulous 50's, etc.

A Murder Mystery party where all of the guests come in costume to coincide with the theme, but you hire actors to act out the murder story. They will draw in your guests during the evening into the murder and help them to become a part of solving the crime.

Well, that's all I have for now. Have a wonderful time planning the party. I know the planning stage can be quite a bit of fun and doing things around the birthday recipient without he or she knowing, only adds to the drama and intrigue, and ultimately the got-cha! Have a great time!

my 10 year old sister is having a birthday party and its ganna be held at our house. shes inviting like 7-10 of her girl friends and i was ganna do their hair and makeup..but i mean, what else should we do? pictures? ideas?

Answer
This is just a cute quick idea for anybody probably ages 10-teen The night before you are hosting your party go to the supermarket and buy a bunch of icecream and a bunch of toppings.INVITATIONS- Anything colorful and creative:You probably want to involve something with icecream on the invite. If the kids are younger you might want to tell them to bring old clothing. Before the party fill a spacious room with 2-3 tables and you put disposable table cloths onto each table.Depending on how many kids there are that is how many tables you will need. On each table put any size pan but all the pans should be the same size. On each table put 2-3 tubs of any flavor ice cream the kids enjoy. Put the same amount and the same kinds of icecream toppings on the table and appliances (like spoons plastic or not)When the kids arrive (at about five) dont let them in that particular room yet because you will want to keep it a surprise for the other kids or your kid if it is a surprise. Have everyone gather into a different room than the one with the tables and just let them hang out until 5:15. After that if you have a pool let them swim for about an hour.(until 6:20) and then have them come in for dinner (pizza or anything you want it depends on how everyone likes food or what kinds of food they like)After dinner it will probably be about 6:45-6:50 and gather the kids into the room with the tables and split them into 2-3 teams depending on how many kids are coming. Tell them they have a certain amount of time to make an ice cream cake(I'D SAY ABOUT 45 MINUTES)at the end of those 45 minutes everyone will vote for which cake is more good looking and that will be the cake they have for the persons birthday. When thats done at about 7:50 let the kids get dressed again and take them outside at eight where there will be music and a bar with drinks like soda and lemonade whatever the kids like and snacks if you want you can make up fake money for the kids to purchase that kind of stuff. Dance the night away until about eleven go inside and open your gifts and at eleven thirty change back into your bathing suit and go for a late night swim until 12:45 settle into a jacuzzi or go inside. When your inside change into your pjs. set up your sleeping bags pop in a movie and make popcorn and have a tiny piece of the other cake.play truth or dare or paint nails or do facials until everyone falls asleep. The first one to fall asleep will have a bunch of practical jokes played on them. In the morning have a breakfast buffet and you could swim again too. Give each girl a body lotion and lipgloss. Have their parents come at 12p.m.

I am throwing my dad a surprise 50th birthday party. I thought it would be neat to have the theme as the 60's and 70's since that was when he grew up, the only problem is I can't figure out what to say in his invitation. I want something unique and that goes with the theme. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
It depends on the type of person your father was when he was growing up. It is entirely possible that he and his friends don't remember most of the 60's and 70's so you can word the invitation any way you want.
Just have every one bring a favorite memory, put them all in a binder and have fun reading the memories. These and be signed or unsigned depending on the writers desire to remain a respectable member of the community.
