Answer
Hip Hop Theme
For those who love to dance, a hip hop theme will make a memorable party. Invitations that resemble backstage passes are simple to create with a computer and a photo program. First create a rectangle that is 4 inches by 7 inches, and fill it in with any color that will complement the party color scheme. Then, add a square picture of the guest of honor to the top of it. Type in the important party information below the picture, and be sure to tell guests to dress in their best hip hop clothes. Baggy shirts, baggy pants and tennis shoes will make a great outfit for a hip hop themed party. On the side of the invitation, create a strip that runs lengthwise from top to bottom and fill it in with the color black. On that strip type the words "Backstage Pass," and turn the words sideways to make sure it fits. Using white lines in different widths, create a bar code and place it at the top of the black strip to make the invitation look more authentic. Invitations can be delivered in a lanyard, so guests can wear their backstage passes around their necks. As guests arrive give them sunglasses, fake gold chains and fake gold rings to wear throughout the night as party favors.

Decorating for a hip hop themed party is simple. Hang large posters featuring various hip hop artists on the walls. Cardboard cut outs of stars also can be used to add to the ambiance. Hip hop has gone through many transformations over the years, and includes things like graffiti and break dancing. Incorporating various parts of hip hop into the decor will not only complement the theme, but provide additional entertainment for the party guests as well. On one wall, hang large sheets of butcher paper and have cups filled with Sharpie markers in various colors. Allow guests to use these markers to create their own graffiti throughout the night. Hip hop stars like elegance, so the decor should resemble a party stars would attend. Use strands of white Christmas lights as the main source of lighting, and consider having a disco ball hanging over the dance area. Purchase white balloons, streamers and table linens to decorate the area. Serve food in bowls that look like crystal, and allow guests to drink beverages from champagne glasses. If the budget allows, have an open bar for guests who choose to drink alcoholic beverages. For additional table decorations, scatter fake diamonds on the table top along with candles on crystal candle sticks.

Hire a DJ or have a friend or family member control the music for the evening. In addition to popular club music, include hits from the past. Guests will enjoy hearing songs from artists like Michael Jackson, Bel Biv Devoe and TLC. For added entertainment, hire a professional to teach guests various break dancing moves or hold a dance competition and allow guests to challenge each other to see who has the best moves.

80's Theme
An 80's theme is not only an easy theme to create, but it is one guests are sure to enjoy. In addition to the important party information on the invitations, be sure to tell guests to dress in their best 80's costumes. Women can wear skirts with leggings under them and belly shirts. Men can wear jean jackets and a concert T-shirts. For party favors, give guests glow necklaces and fluorescent hats as they arrive at the party.

Decorations should complement the decade as well. Balloons, streamers and table linens in fluorescent pink, yellow and green will instantly give the room an 80's look. Black lights will help set off the fluorescent colors. In addition to the party favors given at the door, set bowls of jelly bracelets, slap bracelets and glow sticks around the room. Not only will it add to the decor, but the guests will have fun playing with them as well. Hang posters of popular stars from the 80's around the room, and have a TV set up to play old music videos with the sound muted. A fog machine will add a great special effect to the dance area as well. For entertainment, play various songs from the 80's and let guests dance the night away.

Toga Party
A toga party is a fun theme for a 23rd birthday bash. Send invitations telling guests a toga is required. Guests can purchase togas from a costume store or they can easily make one out of a sheet. Keep extra sheets on hand in case guests arrive who are not in proper toga attire. Keep decorations to a minimum, with streamers, balloons and table linens in coordinating colors. A TV can be set up to play the movie Animal House in the background to get guests in the mood for a wild party. Keep food to a minimum as well; in fact, simply serving chips and dip is fine. Alcohol, preferably kegs of beer, is the main focus of a toga party and should be randomly placed throughout the party area. To entertain guests, make sure there is a large dance area, and turn the music up so the guests can enjoy the night.

ideas for a speechish thing at a party?

Kirsten

my grandma is having her 70th on june 7th and my family is having a huge surprise party for her. i am supposed to be saying something, as in a speechish kinda thing. i can't sing, i can't write poems (and i looked online but most poems were for funerals or poems from 4 year olds) i could write a story or something but idk what to write about. any ideas r appreciated.

Answer
Thank for the invitation to give a birthday speech.

Congratulate the person whose birthday it is.

THE BIRTHDAY PARTY ITSELF

Mention a nice, funny or emotional moment at the party till now.

If you are one of the people who organized the party: look ahead. What's coming up next? Lunch, dinner, you are moving to another location, room or place later this day or evening, other speakers, maybe mystery guest?

Mention the special circumstances, if appropriate. For instance think about the weather, the location, the number of people who are attending the birthday party, and so on. Look around and use your imagination.
What age? Is it a jubilee year? Is it a 18th, 21st, 40th, 50th, 60th or a 70th birthday speech, or even a 80th, 90th or 100th? Did she said something herself about reaching this age? Mention this unique number and its merits and uniqueness.

Glance back at the past years of her life. Can you name some special facts or insight stories about the place and date of birth? To broaden your range of possible topics for a birthday speech:

* What happened today in history?
* Are there memorable events on the date of birth?
* Was she born at a special place?
* Is she happily married? Describe this relationship.
* Children, grandchildren?
* Other notewirthy developments within the scope of the family ties? Mention those themes and don't forget to congratulate her family.

ROAST A LITTLE BIT

Tease and roast the celebrant, but avoid any personal speech topics that might upset the celebrant or a guest.

Roast the birthday girl or boy a little bit. Can you characterize her personality?
What have other people said about her?

Mention her talents, hobbies or passions.

Are there noteworthy developments or achievements in her work and career? What has she always wanted to be?

What are her pet topics?

What are her values of life? How does she propagate them?

THE FUTURE

Look ahead to her future. What were and/or are her goals or hopes in life? Do you think she will succeed? Be optimistic and supportive. Or - if you want to spoof somewhat - tell your disagreeing point of view with a wink...

80's themed birthday party, what activites?

birthday party invitations for 80 year old image
Q. I'm helping my friend plan her birthday party and it's 80's themed which should be fun for everybody to dress up but we don't know what kind of activities to do that EVERYBODY will enjoy. Keep in mind that this birthday party is for 14-15 year olds. Btw, what food and cartoons were popular in the 80's? (ex. Transformers, Caprisuns, ect.)

Answer
Wow a lot of people that are my age are having parties. Like no joke i just answered one about a blackout themed party! I am legitly serious. You may wanna do that party idea if your 80s thing goes out. Look up the question "ideas for a blackout theme birthday party" or something like that. I listed a ton of ideas and stuff.

Now on your birthday party:

Clothing:
The 80s was a very funky clothing decade. SO for your party you should DEFINITELY make everyone wear 80s clothing. You can say it on the invitations. A teased- hair wig, bright scrunchies or faded jean vest will do just the trick. Word to the wise: Make sure you go all-out as well so no one feels silly in their clothes. But you don't always have to Traditional 80s clothing; you can dress as pop stars from the 80s like the SMurfs, Micheal Jackson, and Madonna

music
The Eighties has some pretty rocking music. Get some Madonna hits, a few MJ songs, and a touch of some old hits of Nirvana. Here are some songs you might wanna have on play list:
* Walk Like an Egyptian
*Come on Eileen
*The Way You Make Me Feel
*Like a Virgin
* 99 Red Balloons
* She Blinded me with Science
*People Are People
Get a kareoke machiene. People can have fun with it! Its a huge hit at parties.

Entertainment

Find something EVERYONE wants to do may be a bit hard. For some of my parties i just separate activities different parts of your house and that works our amazing. Otherwise you can do most of the ideas i listed with everyone.

*You can rent a few 80s DVDs and a few people can watch that in one room of the house. Get popcorn and other snacks. People can their own to. Or you can do the Ten Best 80 clips or something like that.

* Board Games. There's a lot of 80s version of board games. You can set up a ton of them in one portion of the house and a few people can go there and have fun. Karaoke with old 80s hits in another room of the house. Its totally fun. Plus you can set up a few mats and you can have dancing contests like who can break dance best. A way to show your moves.

* PAC MAN!!!!! Pac man was a huge hit in the 80s. PLus its a pretty fun game.

Decorations
* Decorate the party space with bright, garish colors that don't match. Fluorescentnts are usually best to generate an authentic 80s vibe. Litter the area with popular 80s regalia like Rubik'scks Cubes and teen heartthrob magazines.Round out your 80s party decorations with music and movie posters and LP covers from the era.Have balloons with unique combinations like the following:
- Red, yellow, turquoise
- Pink, yellow, turquoise
- Pink, white, lavender
- Lavender, peach, gray

Food

* Don't make everything 80s style. Have some 2000 stuff in there to! SO have normal party food.

Hope the party goes awesome!!!!!!!

Six months from today, I will be 60 years old.?

I'd like to throw a party but want something fun and different. None of my friends acts or feels 60. Any ideas???

Answer
I have a good Adult theme party. I recently hosted a "tacky social" for a group that I belong with. I sent out flower power invitations stating the time, date, place etc... With huge print stating that they come dressed in their tackiest. The invitation stated that the "queen of tacky" would be voted on, and the winner "crowned". The decorations were everything you could think of.. Christmas decorations, Easter decorations, happy new year banners, happy birthday banners... Every kind of Christmas and Halloween light you could think of... All these draped and stuck anywhere and everywhere... Even the bathroom! Most were upside down and off center. For entertainment, we played pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs and twister... Boy, you don't see grown woman doing this often!! :o) We had a mix of music from the 60's, 70's 80's and 90's on in the background. We had tacky finger foods and sloppy joes for dinner. I bought the cheapest, no-name brand drinks (sodas, wine & beer.) I hired a very cheesy dancer for our "main entertainment", who came dressed like a nerd, and danced horribly. {on purpose.} Oh, and you should see the way these woman showed up dressed! We had everything from a 100% polyester bowling leisure suit made for a man {but worn by a woman}, to a woman who showed up wearing thigh high leather lace up boots, a leather miniskirt and a bandana for a top!! Those tacky outfits I listed, and everything in between! plaids & polka dots, YOU NAME IT!! It was soo much fun. We have never laughed so hard and had so much fun! At the end of the night we voted on who was dressed the tackiest, and the winner was crowned with a tiara and sash that said" queen of tacky." And she was given a bunch of ugly fake flowers. To enhance the whole "tacky" feeling, I set out all different style/color/themed plates /napkins/plasticware/ glasses and had paisley tablecloths and dead flowers. If you decide to throw a tacky social, you and your guests will have SO MUCH FUN!!!! I still have people come up to me and tell me they need to think of a reason to throw a "tacky social". ENJOY!

how do you handle birthday invitations at school?

birthday party invitations for 80 year old image
Q. My 4 year old's school lets the parents give invitations through the school. I kind of think it blows because uninvited kids must feel rotten. My daughter, for instance, invited 80% of her class. There was a limit on the number of kids she could invite to the birthday party place. The other kids must quickly understand they aren't invited. My wife takes care of this stuff and everyone does it this way at the school.

Does your kid's school handle birthdays this way? Do you think it is a poor system?

Answer
On one hand, it makes me feel bad for the other kids. On the other hand, it wasn't the big of a deal in past generations. Kids were taught that sometimes, you just didn't get picked (whether it be sports, friends, etc.) So, maybe it's not as big of a deal as we try to make it out to be.

We homeschool, so I have no personal experience with my kids concerning this issue.

Ideas to throw a surprise 80's theme party for a 40 year old?

808baby

My husband is turning 40 in March and I want to throw him a surprise birthday party with a 80's theme. Any input for the planning process?

Answer
I actually have recently been helping a friend do this kind of party.. so here are some of my notes that I have that I sent her.. unfortunately not all of them have links to where I got the info.

Play movies from the 80s on TV, while also playing music from the 80s. have your guests come dressed from the 80s, or as their favorite 80s character.
Movies:
ET
Top Gun
Stand By Me
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
The Breakfast Club
Rain Man
Sixteen Candles
Pretty In Pink

For the invitations make sure you use some 80s speak.. "You're, like, totally invited" or "It'll be totally gnarly if you aren't there'." (got this idea from someone else)

Decorations:

Colors-Bright! Magenta, turquoise, lime green and anything fluorescent is great. Streamers, balloons and confetti in bright metallic is also good. Visit party supply stores and thrift stores to find games and toys that celebrate the 80s mood. Rubik's Cubes (you can find "new ones at discount stores), Connect Four, Cabbage Patch dolls, Garbage Pail kids bubblegum cards, Care Bears, Smurfs, you know the drill. Pull out the old Atari 2600 and fire it up! Everybody loves Pac Man! If you don't have your old Atari 2600, borrow your kid brothers Nintendo 64. There are some great arcade classics available at your local store. A working Simon (there are hand held varieties sold at discount stores) and Speak and Spell are always a blast too! Find your old, (or get them at a thrift store) scratched up vinyl albums and hang them from the ceiling with fishing line and tacks for added effect. Pick up some movie and band posters from the 80's.

Cake:

Bake three 8x8 square cakes and stack them on top of each other with layers of frosting in between. Decorate with colored frostings in red, blue, green, yellow and white so that is looks like a Rubik's cube! Use black licorice frosting to define the edges of each "cube."

Or, if you are really lucky, you can score an old Strawberry Shortcake or Smurf cake pan on eBay and decorate it appropriately.

Snacks:

Every successful soiree must have snacks...here's some that will add to the fun.

Combos
Twizzlers (make your mouth happy...)
String Cheese
Rice Cakes
Fig Newtons (but in other favors like raspberry and strawberry)
Microwave Popcorn
Jelly Belly Jelly beans! (Ronnie's favorite!)
Jell-O Pudding Pops
Hot Pockets

Refreshments:

Nonalcoholic:
Tang
Coca-Cola
Capri Sun
Pepsi
Drink boxes
Fresca
Mountain Dew
Jolt Cola
Tab

Alcoholic:
Wine Coolers
Wine in a box
Rolling Rock

Goodie Bags:

Fill with candies that any child of the 80s loves.

Pop Rocks
Big League Chew
Bubble Yum
Bottle Caps
Fruit roll-ups
Carmellos
Bottle Caps
Jolly Ranchers
Gummi Worms
Nerds
Reese's Pieces
Gummy Bears
Fun Dip
Perrier

Why not throw in a Rubik's cube? ->

Entertainment:
80's trivia would be an awesome game, you could google it and find lots of info.. Costume contest. This is a given. You could have a variety of categories from best look-a-like to worst and so on.

80's Trivia games. There are tons of them on the web. Make up your own lists and give away prizes like Cabbage Patch dolls, t-shirts with nifty sayings of the decade or little Rubik's cubes.

How about a lip-synch contest?

Ask guests to bring a photo of them from the 80's and tape them up. Have a contest to see who can guess the most right answers.

Play 80's movies on a television, or on multiple sets. If you have the time and inclination you could make a compilation of your favorite scenes from 80's flicks.

Pin up poster boards and ask guests to contribute their best, worst and funniest experiences of the 80's. (e.g. What was your wost hair day? Who was your favorite Pop group and why?)

have prizes... like stupid things from the 80s..
