BIRTHDAY PARTY THEMES!!!?

lely1998

Okay, so as you can see i need party idea themes for my birthday party. I'm going to turn 12 in July but i want my party in May, so i need ideas for May 19 but if May 19 has already past I will still appreciate and may want to use your idea for my 13th birthday. A theme I had was "GIRLS' NIGHT IN"
it would be a sleepover, we would have mini hot dogs, macaroni and cheese in little bowls, grilled cheese sandwiches cut into 6 triangle pieces and 3 pieces ( half of the sandwich) for each girl. take a picture of me and the girls and blow it up poster size in black and white and hang it on the wall, and give like little gift bags with lip gloss. a nail file, nail polish and little stuff like that.

Answer
How about a cute Japanese theme? You never see that much and it can be so cute and pretty.

You could make lots of origami shapes, from plain or patterned paper to match the color theme.
here's a site that shows you how in 3D step by step>>>http://origami.org.uk/

The shapes can be threaded into a garland to hang from the ceiling or strung along the center of a table. Paper lanterns and parasols are widely available and can hang from the ceiling and from walls or sit on tables. An unusual centerpiece can be made by folding a giant origami shape from a large sheet of paper, like a sheet of patterned gift wrap.

Paper fans can be made very quickly and easily; use printed Japanese origami paper, or decorate plain paper with painting or rubber stamping, then simply pleat the paper and secure with tape at the bottom. Plain paper napkins and invitations can be decorated with a rubber stamp featuring Japanese-style motifs.

Everyone can make a kimono-type thing together by buying huge oversized T-shirts, then painting them with fabric paint and having a wide sash ribbon to tie around to gather the loose fabric around the waist (arms would be big and hang down like a kimono).

Your birthday cake can say happy birthday in Japanese.

Good Japanese finger foods to serve at a birthday party are sushi and bowls of rice crackers. Not everybody likes sushi though, so alternatives and extras you could serve are salads with Asian dressing, terriyaki chicken skewers, hot or cold noodle dishes, plain white rice . You could serve small portions of these dishes in little rice bowls.

If you are creative with cupcakes and desserts you could use food coloring and frost them to look like sushi. If you can find an inexpensive Japanese tea set, serve a pot of green tea or use the tea pot to serve soft drinks.

Do lots of REDS and GOLDS. Have a water fountain.

PARTY FAVORS; You could save sushi take-out boxes or buy plastic bento boxes to package party favors. Bento boxes have separate small sections so you could place a small gift or trinket in each one. Inexpensive party favors you could make at home are origami bookmarks and paper fans, or you could purchase little Buddha ornaments or decorated chopsticks. If there are only a few guests or you want to give them something more special, you can purchase miniature Zen gardens, or find postcards of Japanese scenery or artwork and frame them.

What does formal attire mean for ladies on a Marine Corp Birthday dinner invitation?

twobecame1

My husband thinks a "nice dress" from my closest will do, but I think it means GOWN. Can anyone help us with this?

Answer
Ask one of the other women that will be attending. Also the location where the event is being held should be a clue. It is possible that if the men are to be in dress uniform that the women (that are not military) will be in gowns.

Wikipedia:
Formal wear (US/Canada) and formal dress (UK) are the general terms for clothing suitable for formal social events, such as a wedding, formal garden party or dinner, débutante cotillion, dance, or race. The Western style of formal evening dress, characterized by black and white garments, has spread through many countries; it is almost always the standard formal social dress in countries without a formal national costume.

The dress codes considered formal in the evening are white tie and black tie.

The continual relaxation of formal dress standards since the end of the Second World War is redefining what clothes constitute formal and semi-formal dress. The original term full dress was used in the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century to mean the most formal option available, while half dress and undress ranked beneath it. They indicated different clothes, but correspond somewhat to the twenty-first century structure of formal, semi-formal, and informal. These are the terms used by traditional etiquette and dress consultants (especially for weddings), while contemporary consultants use looser, modern definitions, in which white tie is styled as most formal, very formal or ultra formal; black tie as formal; and the traditionally informal lounge suit as pseudo-formal. Moreover, modern advisers recommend black tie for events traditionally considered to require formal dress (white tie), and alternatives for what would have been semi-formal events.

However, formal and semi-formal are unambiguous when it is known they are being used in a traditional setting, even though changing fashions can make these terms ambiguous; white tie and black tie on the other hand refer solely to the combination of relevant clothes themselves, regardless of their setting, and so are much less susceptible to misinterpretation.

Particularly in America, but also around the Western world, there has also been a relaxation regarding the dress codes themselves, with full formal dress (white tie or morning dress) almost unheard of in many places. An example of such a variant is removing the traditional, classic black bow tie required by the black tie dress code in favour of a black or coloured regular tie and waistcoat, a development which would have been unthinkable just a few decades ago.

The dress codes counted as formal wear are the formal dress codes of white tie for evenings and morning dress for daytime, as well as the semi-formal ones of black tie for the evening and strollers in daytime. Dinner suits and dress suits differ in which they don't follow strict coloration. (E.G. A blue bow tie worn instead of a black one.)

The clothes dictated by these dress codes for women include cocktail dresses, evening gowns, and ball gowns. For many uniforms, the official clothing is unisex. Examples of this are law court dress, academic and graduate dress, formal military uniforms and formal military evening dress.

: White tie
The required clothing for men is roughly the following: a (dress) tailcoat; formal trousers, uncuffed, with stripes on leg seams; white piqué bow tie; white piqué vest (waistcoat); white piqué front or plain stiff-fronted shirt with a detachable wing collar; cuff links and shirt studs; black patent leather court shoe; accessories.

Women wear a variety of dresses. See ball gowns, evening gowns, and wedding dresses. Business attire for women had a developmental history of its own and generally looks different than formal dress for social occasions.

Black tie
Main article: Black tie
Briefly, men wear a dinner jacket (tuxedo coat); trousers, uncuffed, with one stripe on leg seams; shirt (stiff wing or soft folded collar) with either a placketed, pleated, piqué, or ruffled front; a black bow tie; a black evening waistcoat or a cummerbund; black, patent leather or calf Oxfords or court shoes; cuff links and shirt studs; accessories.

Again, a variety of dresses is worn by women, including cocktail dresses, little black dresses, and evening gowns.

France themed birthday party?

jessicamic

I am trying to plan a surprise 50th birthday for my mom. She loves France and could quite possibly be her favorite place but she hasn't been there in decades! So I thought France would be a perfect theme, but I have never been there and don't really know much about France so it is hard for me to plan it. I really want to plan a great party any ideas? pictures for reference would be great! p.s. I am planning on making the center pieces and invitations by hand... I'm big on DIY projects.

Answer
Rillifane has good ideas. Also, you might want to write a few things in French.

Happy Birthday : Joyeux anniversaire

You are invited to the birthday of.... : Vous êtes cordialement invité à la fête anniversaire de...

French writing is cursive, no block letters. Here is a good example of it :
http://php.educanet2.ch/epcorgemont/spip/IMG/jpg/modele_ecriture_scripte.jpg

If you eat a French meal don't forget the cheeses (to be served between the main course and desert), to be eaten with bread and red wine.

If you are serving a buffet you might want to have a map of France and some food for each region, with a little flag with the name of the region by the plate. You can find a few recipes here:

Have fun

Why do parents in the USA allow children to play with toy guns?

Hardcore l

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1233405/Buy-children-toy-weapons-Christmas-face-armed-raid-police-warn-parents.html

Look at what Europe is doing; the UK is setting a fine example and I hope to see this happening in the USA very soon.

Answer
i have 2 boys & do not allow them to play with toys guns. i hate them & don't understand the point of them. as a matter of fact, i don't allow any toys that are associated with war or fighting. there is enough danger & violence out there in the world, the least i can do, is make sure that their home is a happy, secure & safe place for them to grow up in. i think to let them play with toy guns is to teach them that fighting is the best way to resolve a conflict. i also think that these toys diminish the dangers of real guns to kids. i don't want my boys to think that having a gun is cool or "i had a toy one, how bad can a real one be?" when we have the kids' birthday parties. i specifically write on the invitation "please, no toy guns or any toys that imitate doing harm to another." and yet at my oldest son's last party, there was a toy gun as part of a cowboy kit & i took it away as soon as i saw it.

that said, i do believe that americans have the right to bear arms & protect their home & loved ones. when the time comes, my husband & the other men in my family will teach them about guns & gun safety b/c i'd much rather they learn about them at home than from some kid at school. i wouldn't neccisarily want them to have guns but as americans it will be there choice & their right.

eBay and online sites would be your best bet.

Since they don't have party hats or plates yet, buy plain ones like bright blue, then on the hats put the Phineas and Ferb stickers on the hats http://cgi.ebay.com/30-Large-Phineas-and-Ferb-Stickers-Party-Favors-/400100656251?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d27db847b

I am planning a surprise party for someone's 30th birthday. Their favorite movie from their childhood was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (from the 1970s). I am not happy with alot of the golden ticket invites some of the vendors put out, I found one that I did like but it was from the UK, I'd rather buy from somewhere in the states. I want to order customized golden ticket invites. Any idea where to go?

Answer
You could create your own invites using graphics.

MyGrafico has a lot of various ticket graphics that might work.

I need a little help planning a SURPRISE/COMBINED Birthday?

Mary C

Trying to plan a combined SURPRISE birthday party for my brother who is turning 40 and my Mom who is turning 60. Birthdays are 2 weeks apart. Any ideas/suggestions as far as invitations, etc?

Answer
okay if you having a :

house party: Empty the living room for some space and fill the whole living room, toilets, bathroom and kitchen with coulourful balloons saying happy 40th birthday. you could try and hire some lights and stuff from 2mix.co.uk and their number is 02077945151 and put them in the living room and invite all of his friends and you could also give the party a theme of his favourite character e/g supeman and superwoman for the men and the ladies and get some party food like wine and junk food or bbq if you have a garden or balcony and a big birthday cake made with the shape of a bum one side saying happy birthday and one side saying 40 and choose a selection of his favourite music and finally for the surperise , ask your mum to take him out to lunch or something while you and some friends
(not the guests / his friends) decorate the house and make the food and stuff and for the invitation depending on the theme choose something that relates to the theme e/g superman , you could make a card with the triangle and an S on the front and at the back write the details and dont forget to tell them about the theme of the party and at the bottom write Shhhh KEEP IT A SECRET
ITS A SURPERISE !

hope you like it

and a nice present would be to buy an album from T-kmaX and put some nice pictures of you and your brother only to make it special and wait till the party is over make sure you take lots of pictures and then fill the album up with lots of pictures and then give the album to his as a present. and dont forget to surperise him turn the lights of just like in the movies and when he comes in everyone be ready to turn the lights on, the music, ask everyone to turn one thing on .

What are some great ideas for a LOST theme birthday party?

We are going to have each room a different hatch, Dharma logos on all the food, Oceanic Airline tickets as invitations, a hatch cake and some luggage used in some way.
I need some good creative ideas for someone who is obsessed with LOST. The other party guests aren't into LOST so we'll just have to force them to go along with everything.
Ideas for food, games, other activities, and decorations would be very helpful. Thanks!

Answer
Kidnap people and wear rustic clothes!! Then let polar bears into the house and light a fire so things get smokey...

Haha, for real?

Play some Lost music instead of regular music. I'm sure you can find some off of Limewire or you can buy the CDs. The show really does have wonderful music. Put out a game of Backgammon, remember Locke in season one? Wrap Oceanic Airlines logos or Dharma Logos around your water bottles and such, because both had stacks of food with their logos on them. Maybe you can somehow make Dharma Cookies, they were little Oreos with the Swan logo on them. Remember when Sawyer was trying to twist them open in season two?

HERES THE BIG ONE: Go to http://www.webcyte.co.uk/lost/ and download "The Swan." It turns your computer into the Hatch computer. If your computer is in a central location, make sure someone pushes the button at all times. Press "Tab" to show the countdown on the computer screen. It's veeery cool.
