Good themes for birthday party?

Michelle

Good themes for birthday party? One year, I did Shrek.. But, I can't think of anything for my 18 bday party! BTW - there will be kids there, so it has to be appopriate! I can't think of a good theme... :/
Well.. I liked Barney when LIL... No way am I doing Barney!! lmao!
Laura- if you're in the area (Indiana), come on over! The children are mostly special needs and autistic children. Since, I love special needs/autistic children, since I have Autism myself, but I'm VERY higher-functioning. I'm sorta an advocate.. I try to let these kids have AS much as fun as possible! :D (Since, they do not have very many friends)!
If I had a pool.. I would definitely do this... Bummer! :/

Oh and also how should I decorate the back garden ??

Answer
Since its the middle of winter, I'm hoping you are postponing your camping party until the weather heats up a bit and the snow and ice have sufficiently melted! A "campout" is really no different than slumber parties we used to have as kids during the summer in the back yard, except we didn't use a tent! Here are some ideas:

1. Set your tent up for sleeping only (I'm going to assume that you won't be having a communal sleep over with the boys and the girls). If you ARE planning on having a coed sleepover, get your parents and your guests parents approval ahead of time. Make appropriate sleeping arrangements for the guys as well.
2. Contact a rental company for a basketball hoop, bouncy houses, etc. for your yard. You can also set up croquette, a scavenger hunt, volleyball, and even lawn bowling.
3. Dance anyone? Rent a dance floor and d.j. for evening festivities
4. Indoor games might include a game like "Clue" wherein everyone dresses up and participates in the drama. You might also contact your local college theatre troop to see if they can help you with this.
5. Decorations should be simple and appropriate for your theme. If you have a "dressup" party, then you might want to keep things elegant using little white lights, candles, flowers, balloons.
6. Food can be pretty much what you like, although you said you don't want pizza etc. Other ideas might include: chicken tenders on skewers with peanut butter sauce, veges with ranch dressing, pasta with fresh tomatos, artichoke hearts and shaved parmesan, "grown up cheeseburgers" using ciabatta rolls, artisan cheeses, fresh ground sirloin etc., homemade "fries", using sweet potatos and regular russets, sprinkle with minced garlic and parmesan. Add some fanciful sorbets in martini glasses and your favorite desserts.
7. Create a "signature" drink for your party, perhaps a "mock' cocktail? You can serve up alcohol free margaritas,
champagne punch" , "cosmopolitans", "razzatini's" and "mojitos" that will add some class to your event.
8. Don't forget creating "gift bags" for your guests. Most young folks like gift cards to their favorite restaurants, coffee haunts, and game stores. Candy, phone cards etc. are good additions.

Anyway....check your budget and get your parent's approval before you jump into anything!

My daughter (7yrs) wants an indoor camping party, with tents, smores etc. What activites can we do ?

yoquierole

I got tin plates/cups for everyone and we're going to make hobo packets for dinner. I thought of a 'dressup like a camper' game where they would have a sack of random clothes like plaid shirts, fake mustaches, and big old jeans. They would have to get everything in the bag put on and the first one finished would get their picture taken. But what else can I do so the kids have a camping theme activity ?

Answer
there is always duck duck goose. I like the ghost story idea also.

Or you can put different items in brown paper bags number them and close them up tight.

everyone has to feel the item and guess what it is. the one with the most correct answers wins.

Best of Luck

My soon 2 be 11 year old is craving 4 an awesome and unusual party theme. She wants a lot of people but I don't want it 2 cost a lot. Help plz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
Have a Hawaiian Luau. Leis and grass skirts.

Have a masquerade party. Have all the kids dress up like a nursery rhyme character or their favorite super hero.

Make it a mystery party. Send out invitations inviting all detectives to the scene of the crime (they should wear their detective clothes and bring magnifying glasses. Announce at the beginning of the party things that have disappeared, then leave clues around, and watch the little detectives solve the mystery. You get the idea. Use your imagination.

CD party. This is probably for the 8 to 14 year old age group. Announce in the invitations: only CD's for presents.

Bazarre party. Give out tickets, have games such as bean bag toss, pie toss(whipped or shaving cream on tin pie plates), watermelon or ice cream eating contest.

Ice cream party. Chocolate syrup, strawberry syrup, bananas, cherries, nuts, sprinkles, gummy bears, chocolate chips, cookies, many flavors of ice cream, hot fudge.

Tent party/camp out party. Ghost stories, flash lights, tons of snacks, sleeping bags, water jugs, maybe even a campfire, weiner or marshmellow roast

I am planning a fairytale/fantasy themed dance and need decorating ideas, any ideas?

I am planning it for a camp where kids go who have or have had cancer and one of the nights there is a dance, and the theme is fairytale/fantasy. The dance will be outside, and the kids age range is 6-12 years old. Any ideas would be very helpful!

Answer
Thousands of tiny white (Christmas) lights everywhere. Fairies made of poster board, floating in trees spot-lighted with uplights: the bodies can be painted soft colors, the wings even lighter colors, cover them heavily with matching-color glitter. Yards and yards of netting, gauze, other very sheer fabrics hanging down, backlit with tiny lights. White, slightly-twisted crepe paper swags between buildings, trees, any tall upright item (lamp-post, basketball hoop), along any fences, and add tiny lights if possible. Use glass blocks (like those for shower windows) as table centerpieces: decorate with white Christmas balls, wired ribbons, figures, fairy wings, and insert battery-operated loops of Christmas lights inside the glass blocks. I Googled "fairy party theme" and a lot of sites came up. They're almost uniformly geared toward younger children, but this one has lots of ideas that could work with older children: http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com/html/fairy.html It has ideas from moms who created fairy parties, including dragonflies, butterflies, costumes for the kids, and ideas that will appeal to boys: "Magical Forest Party" is good. "Enchanted Forest 8yr" has a wonderful idea for a story that keeps kids moving from place to place to "hear"/carry out the story, which should enchant even your 12 year olds. I didn't click on all of them, or on all of the sites (many of which are trying to sell party supplies but could still give you ideas), but there's a lot of ideas to be found. Hope everyone has a blast!

What are good themes for elementary dances?

Melody M

I am in charge of coming up with a theme for our kindegarden and 1st grade mommy-son dance. Last year we did 70s and each kid took home a tie dyed shirt. The year before they dressed western and ate BBQ and got a hat. I need a fresh idea that is relatively easy for parents to dress as, and inexpensive to put on. We have very limited time as a parent backed out and I took over at the last minute. 3 weeks!! We have a DJ, and we have food. I need decoration/costume ideas that young kids will be familiar with and adults will enjoy. Some ideas we have thrown around so far are:

pirates
superheroes
50's sock hop (i.e. Grease)
prehistoric (cavemen)

any thoughts or comments or other themes?
thanks

Answer
Hey, Theme dances are always a good time, I used to work at a summer camp for 5 years and we had at least one every session. Of the themes you listed I would go with ether the pirates or super heros. Sock hops just aren't fun for kids these days, they don't get them. Pre-historic could be fun, but you wont get very inventive costumes really. With Pirates or super heros, you can really get imaginative with a costume while keeping appropriate. Some themes that worked well for me that I have used have been beach party themes, Colorful theme (have them dress in their favorite/s colors and you can have odd colored food and such), and another popular one is like a movie theme, where you dress like your favorite actor or actress. That last one might not be great for the age group but its somthing to think about. Those are my thoughts on it, but from your list deffinatly pirtates or superheros.
