How To Have A Fabulous Camping Themed Party?

Brooklyn

I am having a camping themed birthday party late August. I have a few ideas such as:

~Swimming in the lake (a.k.a our pool)
~Making s'mores with our fire pit
~Watching a movie under the stars (we got a projector and a screen + will be watching from the tent)

I think a camping themed party is kind of out there and might be hard to pull off. Can you think of any ideas for the party (in general or specifics) or any suggestions other than the ones listed above?

P.S: I have NEVER been camping so I don't really have the experience like others, so is there anything that I am missing that makes camping truly spectacular? Thanks!

A few things to keep in mind:
~ I am a girl going into Middle School and so is everyone else I am inviting.
~ It will be a 'Slumber Party' also, so any ideas that we would do later in the party would be great!
~ Anything camp related will be appreciated, from food ideas to activities.
~ We won't actually be sleeping outside.

Answer
Cool, that's creative! I suggest that you make your own invites. It could be come to Camp ___ (your last name or first or whatever) and your address for some Creepy, Crawling, Camp Fun! You could have a scavenger hunt with teams and a point system. And tell scary stories under the stars. Also you could make these "BBQ" cupcakes. There's some on pinterest, it's basically icing and candy to look like a grill. And there's a similar cake design. You could have a bonfire and ask everyone to bring their latest school stuff and burn it. Y'all could all make t shirts with Camp whatever on it. It's easy, just get a pack of colored tees and iron on letters or fabric markers. When y'all are outside roasting marshmallows or whatever you could put on a campfire song (spongebob lol) or just the sound of nature. In goody bags you could give out fake bugs, lip gloss, etc...also a camp survival kit (band aids, water bottle, flashlight mini, compass, and trail mix.)
You could have games like 'fear factor' with obstacle courses or like apple bobbing except one of the apples has a fake bug in it to find or something? Prizes could be candy, magnetic fishing pole (dollar store) whatever. Also for food you can have dirt ice cream which is crushed Oreos, favorite ice cream and gummy worms. You can use lanterns for the scavenger hunt and hid glow in the dark bugs and stuff. Look for fireflys and such. Make it a fun one and good luck!

theme for a backyard party?

My friend and i are having a party together in the beginning of may and we want to have a theme but we don't know what to make it! help?

Answer
Backyard Beach Parties are extremely popular and a lot of fun, *especially* if it is quite warm (and even hot) at the beginning of May where you live. Otherwise, if it still can be a bit chilly that time of year, a beach party may not be all that much fun.

Other theme ideas to consider for a backyard party:

Dining Under the Stars ~
Party begins after sunset. Guests don't have to dress up (girls' heels could be especially treacherous). Set up a large table capable of seating all the guests (or make one very long table out of several rented oblong tables) and cover with white tablecloth(s). Put lots and lots of candles -- all sizes -- down the center of the table(s). Hang white lights throughout the yard. Serve a buffet supper, and have lots of drinks available.

Black and White Party ~
You can make this casual or more formal, your choice. Either way, string small white lights all around the yard -- through trees, lining fences, wrapped around light poles etc. Your decorations and food choices would be black and white. In the invitations, guests are told to wear black or white (or both).

Google Black and White Party for more ideas.

For either party, use luminaries for added festive touches, and to illuminate steps and steep paths after dark.

For any backyard (or other outdoor) party, it is essential to have a back-up plan in case of inclement weather.

Other ideas to consider would include:

Backyard Movie Night (serve popcorn, boxed candy and soda pop; you would have to rent a movie, projector and screen)

Backyard Camp Out Party (have a fire pit, tents, flashlights and plenty of blankets, have pizza delivered and make s'mores). If you have them stay all night, you can ask them bring their own tent, blanket and pillow if they like. Breakfast can be dough-boys over the fire, served with lots of butter and jam OR an early-morning run to a doughnut bakery (or Dunkin's) for an assortment that allows choices for everyone. Make available plenty of hot chocolate and juice.

Backyard Pajama Party ~ similar to Camp Out Party, except guests are told to wear their pajamas to the party.
