Throwing a "Pirate Birthday" for my 5 year old?

for my sons third birthday we had a pirate party and it was a blast. The party was outdoors so this made it a pretty easy theme to handle. We have an old boat that we put in the back yard with an old table that we found in the attic of our house sitting out from it like a plank. We then bought a kiddie pool and filled it with water and let the kids take turns walking the plank. We bought jolly roger flags and had one hanging in the front of the house to let people know where we were and another hanging off the boat. I made the invitations using clip art of a treasure chest and used a LOT of pirate lingo! We also bought pre-made treasure maps but then added our own designs so that the kids could go on a real treasure hunt in our back yard where they found goldcoins, beaded necklaces, and stones that looked like jewels. I used the pirate ship theme for a lot of the food as well. I cut a watermelon in half in the shape of a boat, used a melon baller to empty it out and refilled with different varieties of fruit. I used long wooded skewers to place paper sails in each of the "watermelon boats" I did the same thing with the hotdogs only instead of using long skewers I used toothpicks (this was only for the older kids - but at age 5 you should be able to do this with most of the kids at your party.) hmmm thats about all i can remember... we just had our 4th b-day party last weekend and it was all about bugs... so thats whats stuck in my head right now! Hope the party is a success!!!

Do younger siblings have it better than older siblings?

JF

My younger sister is slightly more than 1 year younger than me, but we're on, like, different ends of the spectrum. Anyway, it's sooooo obvious that my whole family (Except me) loves her more than me. She's always getting opportunities that I don't get. For instance, she was allowed to take dance, tennis, and viola when I wasn't. Also, my parents made me quit the Reading Bowl team at school, but they encouraged her to join! My mom acts like a kid around her; they always giggle and talk in these artificially high voices near each other. Whenever my grandparents are on the phone, they always ask to speak to her, but never to me. She acts like a ***** and always gets what she wants. When I asked to buy this toy, my parents refused, but when she asked, they immediately agreed. Also, we were both invited to birthday parties one week apart from each other, and she was allowed to go, but I wasn't! I had nothing to do that day, and my mom's excuse was that "Oh, parties are BORING." When I asked why my sister got to go, she replied "Well, she [the birthday girl] changed the date for your sister!" (There was originally a confliction with one of HER classes.) But the dumb thing is my friend changed the date for me, too! Also, my parents always give my things away to her that I earned. Clothes, books, jewelry, etc. She takes whatever my parents don't give her without asking and never gets in trouble because quote and quote "She's YOUNGER than you so you have to be lenient with her." Even as she becomes older, she will ALWAYS be YOUNGER, which means I will ALWAYS have to give up stuff to her. I get in trouble for all of her mistakes, because being older, I have to teach her what's right and wrong. Last time I accidentally dropped a fork and got scolded for an hour about how I should be more careful and all of that (eventually leading to how I will be in trouble when I start driving), and when my sister broke a plate, all she said was "Be more careful next time." The worst part is, whenever I hit her, she cries and tattletales, after hitting back harder. I could hit back harder but then I would be in more trouble. She lies about everything! Even when there's clear evidence, she will keep up her lies. Another thing is, along with all of my retired or unretired stuff, she also gets more experience from me. Everything I have messed up or didn't know, she knows. She beats me at everything I did at her age. Also, she knows what courses to take, what teachers to like, and all of that at school. She gets more than half of her things from me. Her volunteer job was from me. Her math team invitation was from me. Most of her club invitations were from me. Also her eyesight is better than mine, because whereas I have to self-teach myself everything starting from high school, she gets support from both my parents (7th grade currently.), and when my parents don't have answers, I have to teach her. I'm not proud of her achievements even though my parents so I should be because I coached her because she never mentions it. Her goals are to always beat me.

My question is whether younger siblings really have it better. My sister always says I have it better, but I do not see how that is true. The only good things, I guess, are getting more privelages, but what the heck, she'll get them in a year so... And even though sometimes I am mean to her, she is always meaner and she causes the arguments, even though she denies it.

Answer
I have the exact same problem. My sister is 22 months apart from me so technically its a 2 year difference. I sometimes have it better than she does, like im allowed to have a boyfriend and if I mess up with him then she will have to follow the rules that have been set because of the mistake I made. But she does have it better in the fact that we both got a cell phone at the same time..which sucks...and then when we get in to fights, she will always start fake crying and so my parents go to see if shes ok and immediately think that I am so horrible so then I get grounded and yelled at. So in a way me and my sister kinda have it equal. But in your situation it all comes down to your parents, they are being incredibly unfair. This may cause you to be the trouble child because you are looking for the attention from them that you arent getting. You should try talking to your parents about how you feel
