I'm sending out "save the date" cards a month before my sweet 16. I do not want the guests to know the theme yet. Then they will find out the theme with the invitations. The invitations need to look waaay better than the save the date cards. ANY IDEAS?

Answer
I run a website where I make custom cards and invitations -

I made a Mardi Gras themed 30th birthday invitation for my husband. If you are interested, I can dig up a sample of the invitation.

what would be another way to word a "dutch" party? (everyone pays for their own meal)?

I'm making invitations to a party where everyone will have to foot their own food bill. Just wondering about a more elegant way to say it then dutch.
It's a surprise birthday party and the restaurant is around $20 a plate. Simply can't afford that alone unfortunately.

Answer
Straightforward. Otherwise, they'll be someone who just won't "get it".

I would word the invitations, For John's 40th birthday, we have arranged for the use of a private banquet room at Hemmingway's on July 26, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. Dinner for this suprise party will be "on your own" and for your convenience the restaurant accepts cash, Mastercard and Visa.

Then, I would enclose a sample menu so that the guests know that dinner will be a minimum of $20 per person. If the restaurant does not cater to children, I would let the guests know that there is "no childrens menu" available at the restaurant.
