Birthday party etiquette?

Josee

My best friend and i are having a joint birthday party at the pool (money was an issue) and we invited our whole class (35 private school)... We have known each invitee for years now and arent sure how gifts will go. What should we do? We just want to know because we are kind of confused and dont want to make anyone feel obligated or rub someone the wrong way... I dont want to sound stuck up...

Answer
I don't think there's a properly way to communicate guests buying gift only for one of you. Some suggestions are: send the invitation clearly asking for "no gifts, please", asking to each guest bring a book (or any other donation) to a school or local library in lieu of gifts, or asking guests to bring only one gift for both, then each one of you grab one gift in alternating order, for example, the first guest to arrive, the gift is yours, the next gift is of your friend, and so on.

Well I had a murder mystery party for my 14th birthday. Oh my gosh, everybody had a blast! It is really fun, but it was kinda expensive. That is just because we went all out! It doesn't have to be expensive. What you do is go to www.nightofmystery.com. You pick out a mystery that sounds fun (we did the casino one.) Make sure to pick the "clean and teen" version, unless you want sex and alcohol involved. Each person gets a part that they take on. The directions are part of the package. People throughout the night will get different clues. About halfway through, someone dies. They know they die because it is on their clue. The next half is deciding who did it. That is so much fun! I hope you like the idea. A party of 8-12 people would be $35 dollars, and it comes with directions, invitations, EVERYTHING! It is so worth it.
