I recently went to a surprise birthday party for a family friend. The invitation clearly said no presents please, instead feel free to bring your favorite dish and/or beverage. It was mostly family and a few close friends. I actually thought it was a good idea and took the pressure off of trying to figure out what to buy. Some of the people at the party thought it was bad taste. My friend got wind of this and feels really bad now. What do you think?
Answer
No, it's fine. I'm sure you'll come across some sticks in the mud who get their panties in a bunch over such matters (*cough* kdkcbrooks *cough*) but for the most part, people don't mind being told they can bring food to gatherings, especially if it's mainly family.
