I am planning a surprise party with my mom & aunt for my dad's 50th. Any ideas on what I should do for music, gifts, invitation themes, etc? The guests will be from 2-70+ years old, so it should be good for all ages. Thanks!

Answer
You and your Mom are nice to do this for your dad.
1. Make the theme a retro one. Buy rolls of colored tissue strips from the dollar store, twist them and string them from corner to corner in the living room.
2. Download some I-Tunes for your dad: At the party, play the music your dad listened to when he was a teenager; bands like Mamas and Papas, Monkees, Cat Stevens, Bee Gees, Neil Diamond, Simon and Garfunkel, the Hollies,Diana Ross, the Association, the Band, Beatles, Rolling Stones ans many more. He'll love it (if he is a North American that is).
3. Buy him an i-Pod shuffle with these 70s and 80s tunes downloaded for his personal listening.
4.Games: I'll bet when he was young, he played spin the bottle (spin pop bottle, kiss the person it points to).
Truth or Dare game: starts like spin the bottle but you need to dare someone to do something (right now) or else tell the truth about something (that maybe happened in the past or what he would do in the future).
Movies: Rent old ones run - of his time such as horror movies like the Exorcist and for the little kids someone could play outside with them as some are pretty scary for them. BETTER STILL, find the Woodstock movie (1970-ish); real clips of a generation in the throes of change with some of the very best live bands ever.
Have fun!

Does any one have any party ideas?

I am turning 14, in early november, and I want to have a conjoined birthday party with my friend, who is also turning 14. There is about 70-80 people coming, guys and girls. We haven't sent out any invitations or set the date yet. We were thinking a dancing party. What would be some things that we should buy or get, so that this party one of the most memorable parties, without spending a lot of money?
We will have a dj.
and a dancing area.
We were also thinking hollywood themed?

Answer
i love the hollywood idea:)you can make papier mache "oscars" then give them out to the best dressed, earliest, and best hair. in front of where you're gonna throw the party, you can have a red carpet then your parents as the "paparazzi" taking pix of u and ur friend with ur guests as they're entering the building. later, u and ur friend can get the pictures printed then you guys can autograph them and give them to the guests. is suggest that if you both know the guest, you take ONE picture of all THREE of you. instead of having a dj, hire a local band to perform. ask your guests to dress nicely. thats all my brain is giving me for now:) hope you have a great time!

Is it wrong to send a Birthday announcement to family?

April R

My twin boys are turning one soon and they are having a birthday party. Here is my problem. We are stationed in another country, so the only people that would be able to come are our friends here. Should i send Birthday invitations or more like an announcement? We both come from HUGE families. I would feel dumb sending them an invitation knowing they canât fly to Ireland. Any ideas would be great!

Answer
I think it would be fine, kind of like a YAY our twins are finally ONE!! type deal, it wouldn't make them feel weird, it is just like sending wedding "invitations" to people you know can not make it, but you want them to feel included...

What cute things can I plan for my girlfriend's half birthday?

Tony

My girlfriend will be 21.5 years old this december and I've never celebrated half birthdays ever but I want to because we've had a rough year and I want to show her that she means the world to me.

I've decided to buy her a cake that she always wanted and to either write happy half birthday or only use half of the full cake.

What other (Half-Birthday) ideas can I do to make this memorable and special?

Answer
Don't throw a big party. Take her out on a romantic date. Take her out on a picnic or if you guys have a back yard camp out there and celebrate under the stars

ideas for my 18th birthday party?

I need ideas for my 18th birthday party. I don't really like large parties, but half of my friends will still be underage to go to bars.
]my dad wants me to go to derbyshire with the family, and my friends can come up for a party on the saturday - thing is, it might be a bit awkward having a party with my grandparents sitting in the corner. Plus, that would mean inviting my cousins, and nothing's worse than a weekend with them!

Answer
Have a formal party where everyone dresses up.
Rent a karaoke machine and sing the night away with friends!
Have a themed party of "Remember Your Youth" by having a little kid's party. Have cartoon decorations, play pin the tail on the donkey, have a piñata. Just like the old days! It will be different and unique!
Rent a hall and have a dance party.
Throw a water-gun party, AKA Water-gun fight. Everyone brings their super soakers.
Go on a road trip with friends.
Rent a cabin in the mountains and celebrate all weekend.
Rent a condo on the beach.
Get a piercing.
Go clubbing.
Go to a casino where you only have to be 18.
Go in a hot air balloon.
Go scuba diving.
Play laser tag.
Go camping on the beach.
Go to a spa and get pampered!
Get a tattoo.
Spend the day helping someone.
Have a candle lit dinner with family.
Go to an amusement park with friends.
Go horseback riding.
Go to a waterslide park.
Toilet paper someone's house for some good, classic fun.
Go to Hawaii
Go to vegas
Go Bowling

1.Get Laid
2..Get Arrested Don't get No.1 after No.#2 === Then you'll need to get Therapy!

My son will be 8 and wants a cowboy party. I need inexpensive ideas for decoations, and games. I am having a Guitar Cake and we have bandana pattern plates and napkins. I have a week to buy things so please help with your ideas!

Answer
Go to your local art supply or fabric store. (Hobby Lobby?) They usually have some cheap bandannas and cowboy hats ( less than $1 a piece).

You can make name tags/place tags by using some yellow construction paper and cutting it into sherriff badges. You have some great ideas already!

For some party games you could play pin the tail on the horse, get a few brooms out of the closet ( or if you have the money buy a toy broomstick horse, it can be one of his presents) and have the kids get on it, spin around and complete a course of running in a figure eight around a few points on the floor. Time them, and the fastest one wins.

You could fill a cowboy themed pinata with some cheap candy and horses from a local dollar store.

You can make a fake (or real) campfire and have the kids tell campfire stories and sing "Ragtime Cowboy Joe." (Its fun and alot of Boy scout/girl scout troops sing it at their camps) http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/lyrics/ragtime.htm - you can hear it and see the lyrics there.

okay so im planning my best friend's surprise birthday party.. shes turning 16 and the party is going to be on october 16th, and around 40 people are invited, i still have a few months but i'll be out of the country for a month or so and i'll be busy with school.. shes like a sister to me and i really want this to be extra special.. ok so i need help with the following :
1) the playlist
2) the food
3) whats the perfect gift to get her? (shes not a girly girl but not a tom boy )
4) what should i give the people who are attending the party ?
5) how can i get her to the party ? (its in my place)
6)any theme ideas ?
7)is there a site that i can create free invitation cards and are printable ?
thanks anything is appreciated !

Answer
1) i cant help you too much with the playlist, because im not sure what type of music you listen to. but i love metal.

2) well, of course.. you are going to want to have chips, maybe a veggie tray, and things to munch on, but when it comes to the course meal i would suggest maybe fried chicken, or beef sandwhiches. you can even go to a subway and order a whole bunch of subs. look up restraunts in your area that cater.. and see what the best prices are.

3) i do not know your budget for a gift, or what you might have in mind, but since she is sixteen and is (possibly) driving soon, i would suggest stuff to decorate a car.. like a steeringwheel cover, air freshners, seat covers etc. otherwise, pick her out a cute outfit, or a good movie. The Lazarus Project is a pretty sweet movie. or maybe you could put together a scrapbook of you two, since you guys are best friends. and since you have so much time until the party. im sure she'd like that a lot.

4) do you mean party favors? good party favors are better if they are creative.. you dont wanna just hand out a bag of candy, and be like "oh hey thanks for comin!" lol. once, i had a party and went to hobby lobby and got just a bunch of regular little wooden jewlery boxes (the small ones that havent been painted) and we all sat down at the table and painted our boxes. then you get to bring them home and use em for whatever youd like. if you dont want to get that specific, you could always do a raffle or something. get a bunch of balloons. (one for every person) and after you blow them up, fill them with confetti, and a peice of folded paper with a number... have everyone pop their balloons, and whoever has the number you pick wins a prize.
5) Since you guys are such close friends, anyways... you should just tell her that you want her to come to your place so you can give her her gift.and when she comes in SURPRISE!!!!!
6) i dont know her interests but heres some themes to choose from; luau, hollywood, zombie party, clown party, 50's, 60's. or 70's!...outerspace haha, or even just colors, i suggest black and lime green :)
7) i do not know of any web site that you can do that at, but if you go to office max or something, and pick up some cute paper.. you could do it in microsoft word! you could make really cute ones if you mess around with the fonts and colors, and if you do not have the ink to print them out, you could make one, and take your special paper to office max or staples, and give them the original, and then they will print them all up on your paper that you bought!

goodluck, and i hope i helped.

please help if any one knows about birthday party invitations?

Answer
Not knowing your skill level at manipulating images and text and such, I assumed a very basic level since you can't get free customized anything printed if you don't know at least a little bit about how to move things around on the page. And that's all you need to know, a little. These are both cute invitations, and both sites have other items if you don't really like either of these. Both items are free--you pay only for the paper and printer ink.

This free invitation includes Minnie and Mickey, and while the design is a little different than what you had for examples, you can customize this invitation with your own text, your own photos, your own graphics, and arrange them how you like them right on the webpage. You can then save the file to your computer to print later or print them right off the webpage, or you can even do both! Take your time with the customization...I noticed that when I worked faster than the customize tool, it slowed down almost to the point of freezing.

This set was designed for Shery's own daughter's first birthday. It is a whole Minnie Mouse birthday kit, with templates for printing party bags, cupcake wrappers and toppers, an invitation that resembles what you are looking for (add the photo yourself), and more. You download the kit for free and go to town at:

Help! Bicultural birthday party?

Could someone give me some tips for throwing a birthday party for my soon to be 3year old - my family is white white white and my husbands is as Mexican is they come haha. I am having difficulty imagining how I am going to merge these two cultures smoothly. ("white" version: nice short intimate gathering vs. Mexican version: big loud and late? Lol :D) Please some ideas?

Answer
Send everyone invitations in Spanish and English with a start time and end time. ECards is economically efficient (free). Have the whole party organized by schedule in order to prevent any hyper outbursts. Noonish would be better to throw the party versus afternoon or late evening. The later in the day, the more louder it'll be. NO alcoholic beverages. Tell your husband in case anyone brings their own, to kindly ask them to leave it for later. Keep in mind, as much as you won't be comfortable with the loudness, they won't be with the quietness

Good idea's for a 50th birthday that is 80's themed?

Me and my dad are having a 50th birthday and we're possibly going to have an 80's theme. What cool ideas do you guys have? music? Clothes? (What should my mom wear and what would be some other cool ideas?), other 80's theme ideas?
Yeah, I guess it falls in to a more late 70's, early 80's theme. She graduated in '80.

Answer
Well, firstly, why are you doing an 80's party and not a 70's? If this person is turning 50 they are more likely to identify with the 70's, although I do love the 80's.

I would totally do 70's, if you don't mind me suggesting so and here are some ideas:

Make sure to include on the invitations that it is a dress-up-70's party.

I would go to Thrift stores and find really wide bell bottom pants and tube top or long sleeved shirt with vest OR mini dress with White GoGo Boots.

**If you want that list of answers to that Trivia Quiz, make another question on here that says, HEY FELIN!

Definitely feathered hair for gals. Big afros or longer feathered for men with cool metal rimmed sunglasses. Guys also often wore a long sleeve shirt with long pointy collar and left it halfway unbuttoned. Platform shoes for sure for both genders.

Decorations that would be fun:

Lava lamps

Get or make a huge Disco Ball to put up on middle of ceiling in the room where you'll be playing music/dancing. Gotta get a Top Songs of 70's cd and play it all night.

Maybe get poster(s) of Saturday Night Fever and also the original Grease with John Travolta

Also a must is a Farrah Fawcett poster from that era.

Rocky Horror Picture show Poster

The plain yellow happy face was big then too.

Beaded curtains

Throw some old funky rugs over couches

Crushed black velvet pictures. ha!

Here are some songs that your person in particular would remember for sure, for sure according to when he/she graduated High School which I am assuming was about 1979 (You could play trivia and ask who sang this song?? â maybe have the song keyed up online and play just a few bars of it.):

1.Heart Of Glass - Blondie
2.My Sharona - The Knack
3.Just When I Needed You Most - Randy Van Warmer
4.Escape (The Pina Colada Song) - Rupert Holmes
5.I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
6.Y. M. C. A. - Village People
7.Sad Eyes - Robert John
8.Fire - Pointer Sisters
9.Ring My Bell - Anita Ward
10.Devil Went Down To Georgia - Charlie Daniels
11.We Are The Champions - Queen
12.Hot Child In The City - Nick Gilder
13.It's A Heartache - Bonnie Tyler
14.Take A Chance On Me - Abba
15.Baby Come Back - Player
16.Reminiscing - Little River Band
17.Lay Down Sally - Eric Clapton
18.If I Can't Have You - Yvonne Elliman
19.Kiss You All Over - Exile
20.I Go Crazy - Paul Davis
21.Boogie Nights - Heatwave
22.Undercover Angel - Alan O'Day
23.Rich Girl - Hall And Oates
24.I'm In You - Peter Frampton
25.Don't Leave Me This Way - Thelma Houston
26.You Make Me Feel Like Dancing - Leo Sayer
27.I'm Your Boogie Man - KC & The Sunshine Band
28.Got To Give It Up (part 1) - Marvin Gaye
29.Couldn't Get It Right - Climax Blues Band
30.Car Wash - Rose Royce
31.Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Elton John And Kiki Dee
32.Dream Weaver - Gary Wright
33.Love Machine (part 1) - The Miracles
34.Let Your Love Flow - The Bellamy Brothers
35.Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry
36.Saturday Night - Bay City Rollers
37.Fooled Around And Fell In Love - Elvin Bishop
38.I'd Really Love To See You Tonight - England Dan, John Ford Coley
39.All By Myself - Eric Carmen
40.S. W. A. T. (theme) - Rhythm Heritage

Even though it has more Disco on it than, perhaps the above listed songs, I think it'd be better for dancing music if you guys are going to dance:

Food for Party:

Fondue was all the rage during the 70âs. Do a fun fondue party. Will have to call around and borrow a bunch of fondue pots. You'll love it!

Or do all Casseroles.

Games:

Have a disco style dance-off and play some of the favorites from the 70âs. or "Name that tune!"

Play Twister

I have all of the answers to this Trivia game if you want them, then you can pick and choose the ones you want to play a game with. That would be alot of fun for people.

30th Birthday Invitation Poem?

Please Help, I am having a Birthday Party for my husband and I wanted a cute little poem to put on the invitations I am going to be printing. More Info....Name is Trevor. He is 30. There will be food, beer, DJ, Karaoke... Any Suggestions?

Answer
Sorry, this sounds toooooo cutesy for a man who is about to turn 30. No offense.

When my brother turned 30, his friends sent out invitations with a blank piece of paper. With the reply, whether you were going to the party or not, you were asked to write something that only you and my brother would know about. Then, at the party, the host read the note and my brother had to guess who wrote the note.

I thought this would be a great time to bring to light something my brother did to me as a child....I wrote..."It has been 28 years and I can no longer hold a grudge. I finally forgive you for biting the head off of my painted pet turtle". That was the highlight of the party along with a ton of other hilarious other 'secrets' people revealed that night. Maybe that would work for your husband's birthday party(?) I tell you this, it made for a great time.

I'd like to throw a party but want something fun and different. None of my friends acts or feels 60. Any ideas???

Answer
I have a good Adult theme party. I recently hosted a "tacky social" for a group that I belong with. I sent out flower power invitations stating the time, date, place etc... With huge print stating that they come dressed in their tackiest. The invitation stated that the "queen of tacky" would be voted on, and the winner "crowned". The decorations were everything you could think of.. Christmas decorations, Easter decorations, happy new year banners, happy birthday banners... Every kind of Christmas and Halloween light you could think of... All these draped and stuck anywhere and everywhere... Even the bathroom! Most were upside down and off center. For entertainment, we played pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs and twister... Boy, you don't see grown woman doing this often!! :o) We had a mix of music from the 60's, 70's 80's and 90's on in the background. We had tacky finger foods and sloppy joes for dinner. I bought the cheapest, no-name brand drinks (sodas, wine & beer.) I hired a very cheesy dancer for our "main entertainment", who came dressed like a nerd, and danced horribly. {on purpose.} Oh, and you should see the way these woman showed up dressed! We had everything from a 100% polyester bowling leisure suit made for a man {but worn by a woman}, to a woman who showed up wearing thigh high leather lace up boots, a leather miniskirt and a bandana for a top!! Those tacky outfits I listed, and everything in between! plaids & polka dots, YOU NAME IT!! It was soo much fun. We have never laughed so hard and had so much fun! At the end of the night we voted on who was dressed the tackiest, and the winner was crowned with a tiara and sash that said" queen of tacky." And she was given a bunch of ugly fake flowers. To enhance the whole "tacky" feeling, I set out all different style/color/themed plates /napkins/plasticware/ glasses and had paisley tablecloths and dead flowers. If you decide to throw a tacky social, you and your guests will have SO MUCH FUN!!!! I still have people come up to me and tell me they need to think of a reason to throw a "tacky social". ENJOY!

Vintage Birthday party ideas?

Ashley

For my 15th birthday I want to throw a vintage themed party! What type of decorations would I need, what type of cake and what type of music should I have? Also, what type of food do you think would match this theme? Thanks(:

Answer
Sounds like it could be a cool party, but 'vintage' can refer to anything more than a few years old. Maybe you could narrow the focus a little? You could pick a decade theme - 20's could be flappers and strings of pearls ala gatsby; 30s is great depression, so probably not the best party, haha, same with 40's (the war); 50's is pretty cute - fitted prints and hourglass shapes, high wastes, like mad men era. 60's is obvious, hippies and stuff; 70's disco, and head scarves, and the rise of 'lounge wear'; 80's madonna and hair metal, jean jackets and punky styles; 90's is pushing it a little

If you wanted to make a more general vintage theme, I guess you could sort of pick-and-choose from retro items and just have a lot going on. It would be kitschy, and it could be cool, but it wouldn't be consistent.

One kind of really great vintage party is a Garden Party. The idea is that it's a semi-formal, chic cocktail party that would happen in a garden (or in a yard), usually in the late afternoon, or at night with paper lanterns strung up. Women would wear sundresses and floral gowns/ jewel tones and heels (anything but dark colors and heavy fabrics). Men could wear normal suits, but were also invited to wear lighter colored suits and jackets, and be more creative in prints and colors than if it were black tie. You serve light, cold refreshments: hors d'oeuvres, finger sandwiches, chilled soups, etc - and to drink, crisp, clear beverages - iced tea, lemonade, punch, sparkling white wine, cocktails with light, sweet liqueurs like St Germaine. The cake can be anything, but I think something light and airy would be appropriate, maybe a tall, spongy cake with a thick, fluffy white icing, hint of lemon or something.

Decor: for a Garden Party, of course the 'garden' is the most important component. But that doesn't mean you have to be limited to a backyard! A few years ago in college, I actually threw a garden party, and it was widely considered the best party of that year. I didn't have a garden, but my apartment was pretty spacious. I moved all the furniture out of the living room, except a big table which I put against the far wall, and put down an retro-looking table cloth (anything will do, stripes, gingham, pale pink cotton or even lace doilies/ table runner!), and used that for the finger food and punch. I was really proud - I managed to find this gorgeous antique crystal punch bowl with a set of matching crystal cordial glasses. To decorate the table further, I had an antique birdcage full of flowers, and a garland of flag bunting on the wall behind it. Also, if you can find those glass (or plastic) pedestals/ covers for your food, that would be perfect :)

So, to deal with the fact that my 'garden' was inside, I had to transform my living room into a garden. I borrowed some potted plants, and had a lot of plants around. I also made flowers out of pastel-colored tissue paper (tutorials online) and hung them up on rows of white string lights, and it was a cool effect. Alongside the paper lanterns and an old-fashioned table lamp, I had some great indirect lighting that made everything look like sunset :) I set out some lawn furniture, and bought an old-fashioned notebook to use as a Guestbook, in which everyone wrote a little note for me, which I still cherish, and people had a great time! Everyone got really into the theme and looked amazing, I couldn't have been happier with it. Also, for invitations, I wrote them on a ribbon I tied to the stem of fake flowers that I handed out in school. But I was thinking another cool idea would be to buy some old picture postcards from an antique shop and write them on that. Handwriting is key, there were no shortcuts back then!

Music: the garden party is a good theme because it's pretty general within the vintage realm. Chic, fancy people held garden parties pretty consistently until about the 70s, so it's pretty classic and open to interpretation. But because it's mostly a cocktail party, the best music should be subtle, pleasant and not distracting from conversation. I recommend you listen to the following cool old-timey musicians, and see which of these fit in most with your aesthetic:
Fats Waller, George Gershwin, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Glenn Miller, Chico Buarque, Astrud Gilberto, Bobby Darin, Leslie Gore, Frank Sinatra, Andrews Sisters, Serge Gainsbourg, Nancy&Lee, Velvet Undergound, Patsy Cline, The Shangri-Las....

I totally got carried away with this, but I hope you have the best birthday party ever :)

What are some creative ways for wording a dinosaur birthday party invite?

butterflyg

My son is having his 5th birthday party as a dinosaur party. We have several things planned such as a "dino dig" (dig in sand for toy dino), making our own volcano erupt and creating a cool dino fact book. I have all this planned but cant think of a creative way to word his invitations. He is inviting his whole Kindergarten class (some of which do not have the money to bring a gift) so i also wanted to include that gifts are not expected on the invites. Any ideas?

Answer
Roar, take a dive, ______ is turning five!
"address, time, date"
Gifts optional.
Or, "a roaring good time."

Happy birth day to him.

how to have a mad hatter tea birthday party?

Heather

i want to have a mad hatter tea birthday party but not a normal tea party or not anything formal and im going to be 15 and it is going to be inside cuz its to cold to do it outside so how should i do this i like neon colors, crazy music, fun games, lost of food

Answer
Invitations
Cut out tea pot- or cup-shaped invitations. They do not have to be perfect. Word your invitations in a silly rhyme, like the Walrus and the Carpenter would. Ask your guests not to be "late for a very important date." You can ask guests to wear their craziest, "maddest" hat--the wilder, the better. Make a few to have on hand for extras.

Table Settings
Place your guests at one long table that has been covered with a colorful tablecloth or two. Do not worry about it being too tidy or coordinated. Be sure to have more place settings than guests. Use mismatched plates and tea cups from sets you have borrowed from several people or have picked up at a yard sale or flea market. Do not use matching sets; be sure to mix them all up, placing small piles of extra cups on the table. Use mismatched chairs of different heights, and set out a variety of candle holders and candelabras of differing styles.

Food
Food can be small tea sandwiches cut in the shape of butterflies. You can also serve marinated mushrooms, mock turtle soup and leg of lamb. Serve beverages including iced and hot tea from a variety of pitchers and teapots, placing "Drink me" tags on some of them. Bake cupcakes with "Eat Me" on them. Of course, a multi-tiered, lopsided brightly iced cake is the perfect finishing touch.

Decorations
Decorate the room or outdoors area with signs pointing in different directions that say "This Way," "Up," "That Way," "Down" and so on. You may wish to have some clocks stopped at different times. Drape colored paper lanterns over the table and party area. Put a stuffed mouse in one of the teapots as the Dormouse.

Games
Every half hour, shout "Clean cup. Everyone move down." All guests have to move down and take a clean cup from the pile and place their dirty cup in another pile. A Mad Hat Parade with a prize for the winner can be fun. Guests can wear their own hats, or you can make decorated hats and top hats as a party activity. Sponsor a relay race by placing a bucket of tea in one place and an empty bucket a distance away. After being divided into two groups, each group must fill the empty bucket with a cup of tea they carry from the full bucket. Have a White Rabbit-inspired sack race. A teaspoon relay race, with each contestant carrying a small object in a teaspoon, would be fun as well.

I am 13 my birthday is in july 21 what ideas do you have for a party
I want something cool with alot of music and there no budget for me!!!

Answer
For my 15th birthday,i decided to have a hawiian themed party. If youre looking for a great way to celabrate a birthday for teens,a hawiian theme is the right way to go!Everybody loved mine, and they are still raving on about it to this day!So follow my party plan instructions, and youre guests will all have an enjoyable and memorable time! First off,we didnt want to pay out loads of money on invitations, decor, food, music etc; so we made my invites on the computer,i made them really colourful and bright! i also looked up on the net what all of there names would be in Hawiian, and wrote them on there invites! We made pineapple centerpieces out of real pineapples and crepe paper. We bought big pieces of coloured card card, and wrote different things on them like "Aloha","happy 15th birthday" etc;we made our own food but we did order a big cake with a hula girl on it.And finaly we went to the library and got some wiked tropical music! Now for the fun part! When my gests arrived(35 total)my mum presented them with a flower lei and a tropical fruit punch in a coconut shell cup, with pretty umbrellas in it!And the boys got a staw hat!On the front door,we covered it with bright balloons, and a big sign saying "the party's here." we have quite a big garden,so we decided to hire a'surf board simulator' (roughly ?160) to ad to the hawiian theme, that was the highlight of the party, and it was quite cheap to hire for a whole day!Every body loved it! Since we didnt have a pool we thought we would buy one of those round'stay up all year pools(?100)but we were going to get 1 for the summertime anyway! so i told my friends to bring there most colourful bikinis and towels! the pool really set the hawiian beach feeling! We set out 2 big tables and decorated them with confetti, rafia triming, the pineapple centrepieces and a coloured tablecloth! And we servd snacks such as crisps, candy, chocolate, fruit punch etc; We bought a limbo set for the party aswell, but you can easily try to make 1 from branches,or just have an adult hold a pole for you!I set up a treasure hunt for all my mates and I. i hid different types of sweets arond the garden, and for a joke i hid stuff like brocoli and carrots! when it got dark and it was time to come in (around 8.30) we cleared out the dining room and/or living area, and turned it into a dance area, where we also later played truth or dare games,we opened my pressies and stuffed ourselves with all of the left over food! yum! afterwards i had a few of my close friends sleep round after, it was a very eventful day, and everyone went home very hyper! If you want to go all out on this you could hire a DJ or some professional hula dancers, and for decoration mybe you could buy some cheap sand from somewhere and pour it over your patio for a more 'beachy effect' I hope i have given you more than enough helpful ideas on how to have a great hawiian party! Have fun !!!!!!!!! Also oriental trading has tons of cheap items for this party so go to orientaltrading.com

Would you pay a party planner about $600?

cmae4

I was thinking about starting a business planning kids parties. I do really unique things and would charge about $600 on average for a party. Would you pay someone to organize, personalize and clean up for your kids birthday? This would include everything from Invitations, partybags, decorations, games, setup, cleanup and entertainment.

Answer
I would have to deduce how much you spend on "everything" vs how much you are making an hour based on the amount of time you put into the event.

in this area a self employed person should (needs to) make about $30 per hour. If i thought you were making more than say $35/hr for your time than no I wouldn't pay it. In some big city's more in some cheap states less, depends on where you are and how much $ the people around you have.

Give me ideas for my sleepover?

ThatOneGir

I'm gonna throw a Camp Rock 2 sleepover on Friday when it comes out.. Duh, we're gonna watch the movie. But I want some other ideas? Food and activities please(:

Answer
Ignore Mark. We're all over 16, and we still have themed sleepovers. My sisters sorority does it and she's 21 so ignore him :D.

Since it's Camp Rock, you should use the camp theme all the way.

1. I agree - the karaoke is totally cute since it's Camp Rock!

2. Make "camp" food like smores, hot chocolate, popcorn, chips, sliced apples with caramel dip, and make a sugar coated trail mix with chocolate chips, vanilla chips, and peanut butter chips.

3. Bar b que food works with camping. I don't eat hot dogs, but you could do a "Hot Dog Bar" with different toppings, and you could have veggie dogs and veggie burgers for non meat eaters. :D

4. Have everyone come dressed like their fav character or in Camp Rock Fashion. And adults who watch LOST and 24 and shows like that dress up and have viewing parties, so its NOT dorky haha.

here's a fashion blog on Demi / Mitchie and Camp Rock Fashion...

http://prettyprincessgirls.com/randomness/camp-rock-2-fashion-music/

5. Create 2 quick dance routines - 1 for Camp Star and 1 for Camp Rock - divide the girls in half and have the girls learn the routines. I'm a cheerleader so that's something I would actually do haha :D

Anywayyyssss - have fun - don't be afraid to go all out, and don't listen to the haters :D

Does Anyone Have Any Ideas For A Cool&Sweet 17 Birthday Party?

Jesus Rock

I'm planning a 17th birthday party for my friend, and I have 100.00 spending limit! I want to plan a cheap but cool and hip party!! Does anyone have any ideas for games, snacks, themes, or decorations?

Answer
You can have a bbq with hamburgers and hot dogs. You can then set up an ice cream bar with vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream and some toppings. Sprinkles, whipped cream, a jar of cherries, and chocolate sauce. You can go to the dollar store and get the tall sundae glasses or just use wine glasses from your house.

You can do each other hair and nails. Manicures and pedicures. Ask your friends to bring their nail polishes and files and order out some pizza, and you can even do the ice cream still or bake a cake or some cupcakes and have your friends over for a spa night.

You can camp out in your back yard. Tell your friends to bring their sleeping bags, blankets, pillows, etc. Get some music, flashlights, etc, and have a night out in the yard.

You can also do a dinner party at your house. If you and your friends know how to cook, invite them over and cook dinner from appetizers to dessert and have a sit down dinner. Or ask your mom for help and cook with her and ask your friends over for a more formal sit down dinner. Make up place cards and a menu, and set the table formally and have a dinner party for you and your friends.

Have a taco bar. Make tacos with all the toppings for you and your friends, get a pinata, and rent some movies and hang out.

Have a girls night. Eat pizza, ice cream, junk food, chips, etc, and hang out. Rent some movies. Tell your friends to bring their pillows and blankets, and pjs, and have a lounge night with your friends. Doing what YOU want!

You can do an around the world dinner party. Tacos from Mexico, pizza from Italy, and so on and and have your friends over for an around the world birthday dinner.

I hope some of these ideas help. Happy Birthday!

I want to throw my son a party for his first birthday, suggestions?

C

I was thinking of possible themes. He likes Yo Gabba Gabba and Blue's Clues. Most of the kids attending will be ages 5-11. Does anyone have a better idea for a theme? Or and idea for favors, games.. All suggestions welcome!

Answer
blue's clues is perfect for a 1st birthday!!

for invitations (if you want to make your own):

cut out 3x5 cards out of blue or white cardstock. use a rubber paw print (or cut out a paw print from blue paper) and stamp/attach paw print onto card. using a gel pen write

"Here's a clue just for you...
balloons, cake and confetti too...
It's a Party!"

decorations:

blue/white tablecloths, streamers, balloons. cut out paw prints from blue paper and use them as confetti on your table. use a helium tank or have a party place blow up blue/white balloons-attach them to a stuffed blue dog for your centerpiece.

games:

The Thinking Chair
Cover a chair with special red fabric. Place several easily recognized
items on a tray; blocks, spoon, blue's clue toy, crayon...
Gather the children in a circle around the thinking chair. Show them
the tray with all of the items. The first player will sit in the thinking chair.
You will leave the room with the tray, remove an item off of the tray.
When you return with the tray can the player in the thinking chair guess what's missing? Keep playing until all of the children have had a turn.

Paw Puzzler
Before the party -- Print out Blues Clues pictures from the Internet or,
use a coloring book. Use a glue stick to affix each picture onto some construction paper. Cut the pictures into 2, 3, or 4 puzzle pieces.
Hide the pieces around the party area. The children will each find one puzzle piece and then find the the players with the matching piece/s.
*Nick Jr. has free printable sheets. You'll find a link and
resources at the bottom of this page.

Pin the Paw on Blue
This game is played just like "Pin-the-tail on the Donkey"
Find a print out pattern and directions on Nick Jr. website

or you can also play "pin the flag on mailbox"

at the end of the game-give each child a paw shaped sucker (you can find the molds and the candy melts to make these at any michael's craft store). wrap the suckers in blue cellophane or plastic wrap and tie w/blue ribbon

FOOD;

make dog bone sandwiches using a dog bone shaped cookie cutter

blue's special drink: use blueberry flavored italian syrup and mix w/soda water. top w/whip cream and blue sprinkles

make blue koolaid

mini hot dogs (use crescent rolls and little smokies-wrap the smokies in crescent rolls-cut the dough in half first and bake in oven at 350 for about 10 mins or until bread is golden brown)

craft:

make jumbo "handy dandy notebooks". buy red construction paper and regular notebook paper. cut the construction paper to be the same size as the notebook paper-punch holes in the top to line up with the holes on the sides of the notebook paper. using a black pipe cleaner, wrap the cleaner through the holes to make the spiral on the top. give kids stickers, markers, sequins, etc to decorate their notebooks.

GOODY BAGS:

go to your local dollar store and find red/blue sandpails and shovels (these are everywhere right now b/c summer is coming). put blue tissue paper inside w/blue's clues fruit snacks, blue blow pops/suckers, bubbles (see if you can find blue ones-dollar store should have them), and blue finger paint or modeling clay.

hope this helps!!!
