How To Have A Fabulous Camping Themed Party?

camping themed party for girls
on after much searching, I've compiled a round up of 20 great Girls' Camp ...

Brooklyn

I am having a camping themed birthday party late August. I have a few ideas such as:

~Swimming in the lake (a.k.a our pool)
~Making s'mores with our fire pit
~Watching a movie under the stars (we got a projector and a screen + will be watching from the tent)

I think a camping themed party is kind of out there and might be hard to pull off. Can you think of any ideas for the party (in general or specifics) or any suggestions other than the ones listed above?

P.S: I have NEVER been camping so I don't really have the experience like others, so is there anything that I am missing that makes camping truly spectacular? Thanks!

A few things to keep in mind:
~ I am a girl going into Middle School and so is everyone else I am inviting.
~ It will be a 'Slumber Party' also, so any ideas that we would do later in the party would be great!
~ Anything camp related will be appreciated, from food ideas to activities.
~ We won't actually be sleeping outside.

Answer
Cool, that's creative! I suggest that you make your own invites. It could be come to Camp ___ (your last name or first or whatever) and your address for some Creepy, Crawling, Camp Fun! You could have a scavenger hunt with teams and a point system. And tell scary stories under the stars. Also you could make these "BBQ" cupcakes. There's some on pinterest, it's basically icing and candy to look like a grill. And there's a similar cake design. You could have a bonfire and ask everyone to bring their latest school stuff and burn it. Y'all could all make t shirts with Camp whatever on it. It's easy, just get a pack of colored tees and iron on letters or fabric markers. When y'all are outside roasting marshmallows or whatever you could put on a campfire song (spongebob lol) or just the sound of nature. In goody bags you could give out fake bugs, lip gloss, etc...also a camp survival kit (band aids, water bottle, flashlight mini, compass, and trail mix.)
You could have games like 'fear factor' with obstacle courses or like apple bobbing except one of the apples has a fake bug in it to find or something? Prizes could be candy, magnetic fishing pole (dollar store) whatever. Also for food you can have dirt ice cream which is crushed Oreos, favorite ice cream and gummy worms. You can use lanterns for the scavenger hunt and hid glow in the dark bugs and stuff. Look for fireflys and such. Make it a fun one and good luck!

Got to have a campfire. What about a scavenger hunt? Instead of cups maybe use hiking water bottles that the ppl at your party can bring home.

We have a cabin rented that has a fire pit. There is also a lot of room to do games, etc. Our son will be 2 and there will be kids age newborn to 12 years old and also adults. Any game ideas/food ideas? We were already planning on have stuff for smores & we will have meat to grill (hot dogs/hamburgers). Also, this is going to be for March 2009; I just want to get everything squared away before it sneaks up. Thanks.

What are some cool 15th birthday ideas for about 5 girls?

Birthday's coming up, wanna have a fun party. They will probably all sleep over, but what are some fun things we could do?

Answer
Have your guest bring sleeping bags, flashlights, pajamas, fuzzy slippers, etc.

1. Tie a balloon with string around your guest's ankles. On "go" everyone tries to stomp on everyone else's balloon.

2. Give all guests a toothpick to put in between their teeth. They form a line and try to pass a lifesaver or any candy with a hole in it to everyone with using only your toothpick.

3. Put truth and dare cards in a balloon and have guests pick a balloon pop it and answer the truth or do the dare.

4. Play hide and go seek at night

5. Have a silly string war

6. Put a cookie on your forehead and get it to your mouth by using facial expressions only

7. Have one girl be the pointer. She points at one girl to start off a random story then she points to another girl to continue it, and so on

8. Have a girl leave the room while everyone hides in their sleeping bags. The girl comes in and feels the bodies to guess who it is.

8. Have friends bring over board games to play

9. Have an equal pile of m&ms for every girl. One teen starts off by saying I have never... (I have never gone to Hawaii) If it is true for you, eat an m&m. Whoever has the most left wins!

10. Have a bowl of small multicolored candy (like skittles) Have everyone grab 2 candies. If they have the same color you get to eat them. If not you must keep this in your mouth. Round after round you stuff sweets into your mouth until you have 2 of the same color.

11. Play a classic game of truth or dare

12. Watch a movie.

13. Freeze dance

14. Give each other makeovers, BLINDFOLDED!

15. Play "Do You Like Your neighbor?".

16. Paint each other's finger nails.

17. Play hide and go seek in the dark!

18. Rent lots of movies!

19. Treasure hunt in the dark. (have people bring a flashlight to use)

20. Have a dance off... with bubble wrap. Try to pop the most bubbles.

21. Indoor picnic! Pack a basket of goodies, lay out a blanket in the living room, and enjoy a indoor picnic!

22. Tea party! Pull out your finest doll china (if the kids can be trusted with it) and serve hot cider, finger sandwiches, and fancy cookies. As you play you can even teach your guests proper manners for a formal occasion (ediquete).

23.Camp out! Clear some space in the basement, pitch a tent, pull out your sleeping bags, and let the kids sleep inside. (Teddy Bears optional.)

24. To a huge puzzle all together! Put your smarts together to figure it out!

25. Dance! Teach the kids your favorite dance.

26. Test Your Taste Buds! Have one person make something from ingredients in the kitchen and then other person has to put on a blindfold and eats the food. The person with the blindfold on then makes a guess at what the food is or what ingredients are in it.

27. Drama Bag Game - Fill shopping bags with 5 different items in each bag. A shoe, hat, party favor etc. - but fill each bag with different things. Divide into teams and give each team one bag. Go to different rooms and create a skit which includes all items in the bag. After 15 minutes come back and perform. Variation: Create a song or commercial.

28. Play Maufia.

29. Talk! Late Nights are a good time for friends to just get together and talk too!

30. HAVE FUN!!!!!!

For dinner have a "Mystery Meal". Give each guest a menu, but have the items coded like Dr.Pepper is Physicians spice. It is funny to see your friends so confused! Here are some more ideas:
âNeptune's Tridentâ (fork)
âPucker Upâ (lemonade)
"Shovel" (spoon)
"Finger Puppets" (olives)
"Early Morning Alarm" (chicken)
"Gold nuggets" Clue- Pocahontace (corn)

Slumber Party Menu

Pizza - take out or have more fun making your own with fun toppings.
Chips and dip
Veggie tray with dip
Fruit tray with dip
Make Rice Krispie Treats, Brownies or Cookies at midnight
Fondue
Hot Chocolate
Sleepover Smores
Smoothies

Make a Tutu! Instrunctions here: http://www.birthdaypartyideas4kids.com/tutu-craft.htm

Suggestions for daughter's first birthday party?

firsttimem

We are on a tight budget this month, so I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas for making this a great birthday for my beautiful baby girl who deserves everything. I could use advice on gift ideas, decorations, as well as what kind of cake we should get her.

Answer
I know how you feel. We went crazy for our daughter's first and now we have scaled it down. Now I always try to think of ways to save money and still make it fun & unique:

Make your own cupcakes/cake.

Make your own invitations.

For your theme, you don't have to get everything with the character on it. For ex., my son just had a Mickey theme, and I found printables online (playhousedisney.com). Also, I bought a few character items, but bought different colored untensils, plates, etc. to coordinate (red, yellow, black & white for Mickey)

Have it at home or at a park. At home, plan some games for older kids and/or adults. At the park, there is a playground for kids, so that's free entertainment.

Orientaltrading.com has great deals on all party supplies & favors.

Check out ebay for great deals on favors, supplies, etc.

I try to make my own food for the party.

Enlist friends & family to help: my mom helps with food, my sister helps with entertaining (she's very artistic so one year she face-painted the kids)

If you want to splurge on one thing & make it really special, we had a caricature artist for her first & everybody loved it. We had Dan the Cartoon Man (search him on yahoo) and he was awesome!

For party favors, I try to find unique items b/c kids get too much candy and knick knack that they always throw out anyways. Hand puppets, books, personalized crazy straws (search online), etc.

Be creative & have fun!

You know, over the years, I take my friendship with my best friend seriously.

Well, I consider him as a best friend, but I don't know what he thinks of me, all I know is he shared his secret with me more than with anyone else. And he knows that I don't like the crowd, I don't to be around with too many people. He have friends of his own, which I don't really like because the way that they behave toward me when he's around is completely different from whenever he's not around. I am considered to be a very smart student in class, it's just that I'm lazy, and he knows that, though he always remain on top of the class while I'm remain in middle but he's too knows that it wasn't because he was naturally smart but because he spend time in front of books 13hrs a day, even Sunday, that's why he for once never look down on me because he realize that I don't need to put as much as attention as he is, yet I could beat him easily. We became really good friends, it's all changed when he started to tutor Physic which is his favorite subject. Most of his friends attended there while I don't because I don't like them and knowing that I could get pass physic easily. And when his friends became really good, they treated me like a fool whenever he's not around, they never talked to me or answer to me whenever I asked, they only talk and play with me whenever he's around knowing that no matter what he'd chose to be on my side.

But after they became really good, they started to hang out more and more, eventually I felt that my best friend is now only hang with good grade student, he have party with them without telling me, he goes on vocation with letting me know. Even when he threw a going away party(he was going to study in Australia), I wasn't invited nor been told.

After learning all the things he did without letting me know, I felt disappointed. So I decided not to see him when he was leaving to Australia by email telling him "All of your best friends are there, you have enough supporter more than you'd ever wanted, I guess my absent wouldn't end the world for you, good luck and have a safe trip there, farewell my best friends" and he's reply "I understand"

But when he was coming here on his birthday which I don't know, I emailed him, thought that he was in Australia but he was here all the time, I didn't know and he even throw a birthday party without letting me know. But he came and visit me after his birthday and when I couldn't hold it in, I asked why he didn't let me know that he was throwing a party, he said "most of other friends there and I know you won't go" and I said "of course I wouldn't go and cause a disaster at your party but what harm comes from a little invitation from an old friend that been gone for almost a year and since you can handle me not going there, can't you handle me not going after being invited your party?" He said nothing, when he left to Australia, I didn't see him off again but I was angry.

Now he's back again celebrate new year with his other friends without me knowing. But he wanted to meet me, I think that since we no longer best friend and became two people who barely know each other. I told him that "Why bother? nothing's gonna change, you've changed and that's all it matter to me, I love you my friend but I really do hate what you became. I am too, going to live in Texas next year, we might not ever see each other again, let's just keep it that way"

Do you think I'm doing the right thing? do you have any idea what's going on with me?
Am I make too much big deal out of those things he did without me knowing?
please tell me what you thinks.

Thanks in advance...
I do take this friendship serious enough even to felt betrayed after learning the truth of what he's done. He's do try to hide it, it's just that he never knows that I keep track all of his information in order to see how he's been doing. I wouldn't know the truth until I became an alias and try to be friend with him in facebook which is off limit to outsider and those who not friends. He knows that I hate facebook and only play Hi5, that's why he doesn't have a Hi5 but choose to have face book instead, I was also the one who taught him too. He keeps track of study but I keep tracks of games and movie and internet all the time, that's why I was ranked as middle class in High School, I'm just doing the school work good enough to get by. And "You are my very best and dearest friend, I am so lucky to have met you, I am so grateful that we became best friends" it's what he keep written in any email or sms that he send me.

I once called and asked him if he want to go to supermarket to eat

I once called and asked him if he want to go to supermarket to eat
ice-cream, it's was a holiday and it's what we always do on holidays but he said he sick and want to sleep, so I went alone in the morning but I forgot DVDs that I bought at usual place, so I went and get it in the evening and when I walk down the stair I saw him and with his new friends, so I smiled and hurried home, I think it was when he got home, that's when he called and talked about a lot of things and I know that he just want to know if I'm angry, I maintain my emotion and said nothing. But in the morning when we go to school, he saw, he must realize that I was angry and disappointed, so he said he was sorry and I said "Sorry! You doesn't seem like one when I saw you yesterday" and he turned around and said "It's my life, I can do what I want". I was so angry at him, I even decided to change class room to be away from him, but we both were so close with the home room teacher and she's too knows that he and I are really get along. She must have told him when I decided to change r
room, we were in class A and I decided to go to Class J which is in a different building from him. He called and try to convince me to stay but I determine to change, I thought "if he is that kind of person, then I don't want association". That night my dad called me and talked to me about him, how's he tries to get me to stay in Class A. I was surprised, you know, we close but I move away from my family to go to Phnom Penh to study. He never knew my dad and we never talked about our family, and I never give my dad number to him but he managed to find it, it's must come from our home room teacher which she would have found it in my school application form. I'm surprised that he braved enough even to talk to my dad.

That's when I realized how sorry he was, he just don't know how to show it. I decided to give it a try and we became good again, even better than we were, he was always come to my house around holidays but he still hang with his new friends and I made it very clear that he
can do anything he wants but just don't lie to me and he's agree. Everything went good until he was about to leave to Australia, that's when I chose to be an alias to surprised him in his face book and found his journal of where he have gone with his new friends, and found the pictures of them partying for his going-away party. I decided not to see him off, figured it's not worth it. After he's there he email and checking every week but when he here, he threw a party without me again.

So, can i ask how's that my fault???

Answer
You considered him your best friend but maybe he didn't. Anyways, you guys have gotten less close , kind of your fault if you ask me. You did the right thing since you guys do not have strong bond of frienship anymore. But it is your fault, you guys drifted in the first place,i guess you did not take this relationship seriously enough.

What do you think of requesting guests pay admission in lieu of a birthday gift?

Inquisitiv

Our daughter's turning 4 and we love celebrations and good friends, but don't put a lot of value into material possessions and hope our kids grow to feel the same. We want to invite we know and love with kids under 5, and I was surprised how quickly a guest list of 50 kids came to be without thinking too hard... I'm sure there's more. The local gymnastics place is huge and a lot of fun and only costs $10 per child.

What is your opinion of us inviting people and somehow request that they don't bring gifts, but pay the cost of admission instead? How would we word that in an invitation? We'd like to serve cake but not have any party favors.

I don't want to be collecting money at the door. We're web business people, and have a personal website and can easily make a subpage for her birthday party where friends can both rsvp and pay $10/child at the same time.

How do you think this would all go? I know breaking social norms and expectations is often a etiquette risk, but we just want to celebrate our daughter's life in as fun a way as possible and not leave anyone out.
Please don't just tell me that it's rude and tell me why it's rude. I obviously don't get it. I'd be pretty happy to not have to worry about picking out a gift and wrapping it and pay admission instead, including paying online. I'd also be pretty happy to get an invitation that I wouldn't have gotten if it were a smaller party. We would expect that parents stick around for the hour and a half with their pretty young kids.

I understand that you think this is rude and I'm glad that you're saying it, because that's why I'm asking, but instead of telling me how it's normally done please tell me what I don't understand about it being wrong so I don't accidentally offend anyone.
I should also add that these are OUR friends with kids under 5. We like any excuse to see our friends. She doesn't really have her own group of friends other than our family and friends because she's not in school yet. The gymnastics place is so big parents and their kids can run around together, which is how it's done during the gym's open play session.

That wasn't my question anyway! I was asking how I can politely handle the $ part of it.

Answer
You should be paying the admission fee, if you want to have the party there.

Why is it wrong, for to to ask them to pay it? Because YOU are inviting them.

Not if they choose to say NO, i can not come. They offend you. Yet if they say yes, they are obligated to pay an admission cost.
Its hardly the way to treat your guest.

In actual fact, here in Australia i been to many of these childrens parties at childrens playgrounds. Even held some myself for our child. Everytime, theparent pays the admission fee for every single child attending.
The guests bring gifts.
That is usually the norm.
Choosing to go against the norm, is choosing to possibly offend. Now why would you want to put a "friend" in that situation.

How can I take back an invitation?

birthday party invitations for 2 kids image

Clariza Ma

Hi Guys!

I just gave out my little sister's birthday party invitations to our neighbors (She's turning 3). The invitations are designed as tickets and the kids can't come to the party without their "ticket". When I was done with giving the invitations, 2 parents came to me and told me to include their child. Out of kindness, I wrote their names on 2 extra tickets. The problem is, now to think of it, I shouldn't have given it to them, I mean the kids that aren't invited will still get a loot bag, but they can't enjoy the party. I need ideas on how to take back an invitation without hurting their feelings. I know feel guilty that i added one of them, Please help me! I might even need the extra invitations for "surprise guests"
That part that says "I know feel guilty...." I meant "I now feel guilty" and the venue is in our house.

Answer
You can't withdraw an invitation.

But what do you mean, they 'told' you to invite their kids? Do you have to obey everything other people tell you to do? Next time say 'Im so sorry, but I'm not in charge of who's invited, I'm only handing out invitations. But I do know that there are lots of other children they wanted to invite, but space is limited. SO sorry about that.' And keep walking.

Is 2 weeks enough time to give people to respond to an invite to a kid's birthday party?

AmyK

We are planning one for July 12, but the invitations aren't going out until tomorrow. Is this to short of notice?

Answer
Yes, that's plenty of time.

Help with Disney's LITTLE EINSTEIN theme & cake?

birthday party invitations message sample
on Custom Birthday Party Invitations - Bi-Fold Cards
birthday party invitations message sample image

Miss JT

Can anyone help me? My little niece would really love to have a Disney's Little Einsteins themed 4th birthday party but there does not seem to be any party products out there with them on it. I will even take free standing cutouts. ANYTHING!!! I also NEED to get a diary free, egg free, gluten (wheat) free Little Eintein designed birthday cake, if possible because she has allergies. ANY ONE? ANY SUGGESTIONS? Please help.

Answer
LITTLE EINSTEINS PARTY INVITATIONS
Use bright red cardstock paper to cut a "rocket ship" shape.
On the front write...
"We've got a mission!"
Inside message...
"We're going on a trip with our favorite rocket ship
to celebrate ____'s birthday!"
Then add the party details.

LITTLE EINSTEINS PARTY DECORATIONS
For the time being, Little Einstein's merchandise is unavailable. However, you can achieve your theme with solid colored party items; streamers, plates balloons etc. and some imagination. Visit your local educational supply store to find instrument posters and cut-outs, posters of classic artists and places around the world.
You may want to try a travel agency for posters and a used bookstore for old art books that you wouldn't mind using for cutouts.

The playhouse Disney website has print and color sheets to
use for placements and/or a quiet activity during the party.

To make a fun table centerpiece...
cut the top off of a clean 1/2 gallon cardboard milk box and cover it with construction paper. Use construction paper, glue stick and markers to make the Little Einsteins characters - just faces will do. Attach a face on each side of the carton. Place a weighted bouquet of balloons into the or candy into the bottom of the container and Tip: Not feeling creative? Hire an artistic teen to make the faces!

Or, cut four works of art from a magazine/book, use them on the sides of the carton instead -- Van Gogh, Degas, Monet...
Solid colored party items, personalized stickers, and fun party favors >>

LITTLE EINSTEINS PARTY GAMES AND ACTIVITIES
Play some fun birthday party games with your child's favorite Little Einstein characters.

Orchestra Ocean Treasure Hunt
You'll need plastic or paper cut-outs of various instruments.
You can find the cut-outs at your local teaching supply store.
If you can find a recording of sample instrument sounds,
that would be ideal. Otherwise, trace the outline shapes of
the various instruments onto large pieces of paper.

Place the instruments (toy or paper) around the party area and give the children a wagon or basket for collecting the instrument clues that they will find. They can take turns pulling the wagon or holding the basket.

When you play the instrument sound or show the outline shape, the children will locate that instrument and place it in the wagon. When all of the clues have been found each child will receive a special treasure!

Dance, Dance, Dance Like June
Play some classical music. Making a combination CD before the party is best. Make sure the CD has a variety of composers, tempos, rhythmic patterns etc. Encourage the children to dance like June.
This activity is even more fun if the kids dance like a lion, elephant, mouse etc...Variation - turn this into a follow the leader game.

Vrooom -- The Great Rocket Race
Kids will love to race with their very own pretend rockets.
Don't let Big Jet win the race!
Before the party cut the tops and bottoms from cardboard boxes.
Paint the boxes with spray paint or latex brush paint. On the sides of the boxes, cut two kid-size holes so that the children can step into the boxes and hold the sides. Add headlights by covering two cardboard circles with aluminum foil. Attach with a stapler or strong glue. If your party guests are older, they may want to decorate their own rockets with craft foam sticker shapes, ribbons, stickers, markers etc. Use some paper streamers to mark a start and finish line. "PAT,PAT,PAT- BLAST-OFF!" and away they go!

Leo the Conductor
Before the party make or purchase conductor's batons for each guest.
Keep safety in mind -- no running or placing the baton into their mouths.
Make the batons with pieces of wood dowel, wooden beads
or styrofoam balls and non-toxic paint.

Give each child a baton. Play your classical music again and have the children conduct the orchestra. Learn the terms you'll need to know
before the party...
adagio â slow
allegro â fast
largo â very slowly
Crescendo - gradually get louder
Diminuendo - gradually quiet down

More fun with Little Einsteins
Add a few more activities appropriate for your party space.

Have a circle time with singing, clapping and instruments.
Stick to songs your comfortable with or use a CD and sing along!

"Pat your laps for power!" -- gather the kids into a circle.
Have them crouch down and slowly pat their laps while saying "pat, pat, pat" They'll get gradually faster and louder until they jump up and say -- "Blast -Off!"

Free art with paint, smocks and a covered table of course.

Make instruments with paper plates, TP tubes, film canisters, paper, crayons etc. Preschool websites will have tips to help.

Blow Bubbles, play with play dough, blocks, and coloring sheets.

Set up exploration tables, with shells, feathers, animal pictures...

Record the birthday star's favorite Little Einstein Adventure and show it at the end of the party.

Party Favors
Fill a solid colored party bag with...
instrument stickers, bubbles, play dough, crayons and animal cookies.
Use postcards of famous art work, cardstock paper and a glue stick to make a puzzle the guests can take home. Glue the card onto the paper. Cut into four or five pieces and place the puzzle into a plastic bag.

Rocket Ship Cake

You'll need:
A standard cake mix (Can make this to suit allergy concerns), equally divided into a round baking pan
and a dome shaped pan from a craft store or use a 2-1/2 quart oven proof glass baking bowl.
Two snack cakes "twinkies"
Red and blue food color paste
white frosting
2 large yellow gumdrops or NECCO candies
red decorating tube or decorator bag with a piping tip

Bake, cool and remove the cakes from the pans.
Mix the red color paste with white frosting to achieve a vibrant red.
Mix a small portion of the blue paste to achieve the blue for
Rocket's windows.

Frost the round cake with red. Place the dome on top and slightly towards one edge leaving room for the headlights. Frost the dome with red, leaving space for the window. Frost the window with blue frosting and then outline it with red piping.
Cover the Twinkies with red frosting and place on the sides of the rocket. Add the yellow gumdrop or NECCO candy headlights.

TIP: Place the cake on an aluminum foil covered cookie sheet or sheet of cardboard and then frost.

Answer
50 People? Well here are some ideas.
Do you have a budget?
Okay, well, here are some ideas:
For a CHEAP Budget:
Have a FEW friends over for pizza, sleepover? Movie at home?
For an AVERAGE Budget:
- go to a movie theater, with a few people
- check out local hotels to rent a room (not overnight, a party room) and have a pool party at the hotel
For a HIGH budget:
- Is there a local zoo? Perhaps see what they have there for group trips..
- This could also be AVERAGE budget, just depends how you spend, Rent a hall or something, get a DJ and have a formal/or non-formal or DRESS UP (like hand out invitations earlier so you can get ur costumes b4 halloween is gone!) for a DANCE party :)

Those are just some ideas.
I will tell you what I am doing, I am turning 14 at the end of this month and I am having a Halloween/Birthday party.. (halloween themed) and I am having my 6 closest friends over, we are going to play stupid silly games (like bob for apples, pinata, like kid stuff lol) then we willl make a funny video for facebook.. :) then we will have pizza :D, and we are all gonna dress up and go trick or treating up to the local bowling alley... :D then we will trick or trea back (or not if its late) and have everybody go home, it will be from like 330-(930 10 ish) :)

Answer
Choose a theme if you would like to, you don't have to though. If you choose a theme then choose a character from a book or cartoon that she likes. Buy a cake with that theme or make one, buy decorations. You can do some themed and others in solid colors that match the theme. http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com/ has all kinds of different themes, games, foods, decorations and invitations. You can either make the games that match your theme or do just any party games. Pin the tail on the donkey (or pin the wheel on the truck, the crown on the princess... etc.), musical chairs, pass the parcel, Looney Tunes freeze tag. You can have a Pinata. They have the kind with the pull string if you don't want to do the stick.

You can do it in your yard, at a park or a beach. Those are the simpler places to go and the ones where the kids have most fun usually. Other options are bounce houses, aquariums, zoos and pumpkin patches.

She's just turning two so I would go with something simple. Good luck.

Unique ideas for a sweet sixteen?

birthday party invitation wording 8 year old image

sophiepsyc

I need something that will make my sweet sixteen unique and different. I wanted an oxygen bar but it's way too expensive and my parents won't let me. What I need is something that will set my party apart from others and that's not too expensive.

My party is going to be semi formal, and it's gonna be in a private room at a restaurant. We're mostly going to be dancing the whole night but I need something that's going to make people remember my party. Thanks for your help!

Answer
How about doing like a hollywood red carpet party
Invitations
Red Carpet Invitations
Make 2 sided cards, with the front cover with red velvet in the middle of the invite - to look like a red carpet and some reporters and photographers on the sides.

Start by finding some nice pictures of photographers or cameras from the internet, copy them and save them to a file. Edit the invite so the photographers are on the sides of the invite, when done, print it out.

Next, glue a long piece of red velvet to the middle of the invite, so it looks like a red carpet. On the other side of the invite write all the party information.

Wording:
"Name", you are a star!
Please come and walk the red carpet with us.
Date:___, Time:___, Address:___, RSVP to "phone nr by date".
Come dressed as your favourite star.

If you are having a Talent show include that information on the invite. Tell guests that it is a talent show and that they will be responsible for doing an act. Also tell them to be prepared for a red carpet interview.

Hollywood Hills Invitations
To make this Hollywood birthday party invitation you must first search the internet for a picture of the Hollywood Hill sign. Print the invitations on 8x10 invitation paper with the actual Hollywood sign and mountain on the background.

Add white glitter glue to the sign and green glitter glue to the mountain, so the Hollywood hill sign and mountain are shining. On the other side of the invite write all the party information and don't forget to mention that it is a dress up party.

Hollywood Diva Invitations
To make this Hollywood dress up party invitation you need to dress up your daughter in a floor length dress and heels - to look like a movie star and take a picture of her.

Place that picture in the middle of the invite and above the picture write something like "Starring "name of birthday girl" and on the other side of the invite write all the party information.

Wording:
"Name" is celebrating her 8th Birthday.
Join us for the glamour and fun only "A star's" can enjoy!
At the Premier of "birthday child's name", A new Hollywood Movie!
Produced and directed by "mom's name".
This is the party of the year!
Date:___, Time:___, Address:___, RSVP to "phone nr by date".
Come dressed as your favourite star.

Costumes
It's obvious that for this dress up party your daughter should dress up as her favourite movie star or singer. Make her look like a true star with a bit of make up and put glitter on her hair and arms. Dress your son or husband up in a tux and give him a microphone to conducted red carpet interviews.

Decorations
The Hollywood dress up party has to look like a real Hollywood Movie Premier. You need to have a red carpet for the kids to walk on as they arrive to the party. Have friends or siblings dress up as photographers and let them ask the children questions as they walk in to the party area.

When the kids arrive to the door have a sign posted saying "Starring "name"" with a picture of your daughter. Decorate the party area with lots of gold and silver stars hanging everywhere, have silver star balloons fill the corners. Put fake security cameras in different places.

Contact the movie rental store and ask them to give you old movie posters to decorate the party area with. Or create movie posters using different pictures of your daughter, as you would see at the theatres.

With an overhead machine you can blow up pictures and draw them onto butcher paper and coloured them. When done hang the pictures (a popcorns machine, movie reels, Hollywood sign) around the party room. Or why not have a real popcorn machine.

Use white table covers and decorate the tables with lots of gold confetti stars. Use fancy plates, champagne glasses, etc. It has to look glamour's. Have a huge popcorn box as centrepieces. Make this box out of rectangle styrofoam and paint white and red stripes and glued real popcorn to the top of the box.

Games & Activities
The party theme is - a Hollywood red carpet movie realise, a dress up party. So through out the party you and all the guests have to act as this is what is happening. The game already starts as guests arrive to the party.

Have older siblings dressed up as the media, with microphones and cameras. The photographers have to be waiting on the red carpet for the stars. As guests arrive to the Hollywood dress up party the "media" has to ask questions to the stars - what they are wearing, who is the designer, why they choose to wear that outfit, ask about their resent split ups, movies, albums, etc.

When all guests have arrived, it's time to watch the "Premier of ____ Home Movie". Have great speakers hooked up to give a real movie feeling.

Create a home movie called ""Name" Life" - Anna's Life, starring the birthday girl. Create different scenes and add comments to the different scenes. For example film the birthday girl in the bathroom with her bathrobe and with h

birthday party ideas?

i'm holding a birthday party for two 14 year olds. we are inviting about 10-15 people, and we need ideas for what the activity of the night will be. its a sleepover. we need ideas other than going out to the movies or a spa party, because we have already done that. thanks for you help!

Answer
these are some ideas:

Sleep-overs have always been a popular party ideas. Whether it's a backyard camp out or sleeping bags on the playroom floor, there's a special feeling to sharing late night laughs that makes for a great social gathering.

Pie Supper - Invitations are circles of tan card stock cut into pie-shaped wedges. With dark brown paint, make a fluted edge on each "crust". With scissors, make slits to let "steam" escape. Write time and place on reverse side of wedge. Pin each wedge to small paper plate. Of course the menu is pie, and have a spy, so that the one eating the most wins a prize.

Pancake Parade - Great after a slumber party. Get up, you sleepyheads; this is a morning party. If you perfer, make it late a late evening affair. Whatever the hour, the party's in the kitchen. For invitations, send miniature skillets, with a tag attached stating details.(Or use round coasters to resemble pancakes, and write details on them. Borrow extra griddles so that the pancake flipper can keep up with the demand. Have several types of pancakes: banana, pecan, buckwheat & etc. Different types of syrup: maple, strawberry, raspberry & etc. Whipped cream for topping. Hot cocoa.

Magazine Party - Here's a party with it's own entertainment. Guests come dressed as title of a favorite magazine; a prize for best one. For invitations, just paste front cover of a magazine onto piece of white paper; with marker write details on reverse side.(or cut each of 8 magazine covers (of same size) into 8 squares. Onto each piece of white paper, paste a square from each magazine.) Pin magazine covers to tablecloth. For refreshments, reproducing a tempting dish shown in a magazine color photograph. For games: Unscramble Mixed-Up magazine titles. Identify Trademarks - Cut 25 trademarks from magazines, paste on cardboard, then number 1 to 25. Give a sheet of paper & pencil to each quest. Ask guests to number paper 1-25. Show trademarks, one by one; let them jot down manufacturer beside correct number. Prize goes to highest score.

You Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine - This is an idea for an after-movie snack. The gang splits up, and each person goes to the movie he'd like to see most. About 11 P.M. everyone meets at your place for: Soup & Blockbusters (Sandwiches).

On-the-Go Party - This is a co-operative affair. Everyone brings a prearranged fee and meets downtown. Hostess has planned two or three events--roller skating, a ride on a bus the gang doesn't usually travel on, ping-pong or darts in somebody's basement, Pop and Pizza at Pizza Piazazz, (Choose events to suit your locality.) Nobody knows plan of events except host or hostess.

Doughnut-Dunking Time - This party idea was borrowed and adapted from New Orleans. First serve "poor boy" sandwiches with coffee or hot cocoa. Then bring in a bowl of doughnuts--packaged ones, reheat in oven or automatic deep-fat-frying kettle. Have wooden bowls of granulated sugar--one for each guest or two. Everyone dunks his hot doughnuts in the sugar, a la The morning Coffee House in New Orleans French Market. And, of course, replenish the coffee or hot cocoa.

Victorian Formal Dance at Home - Have guests come dressed in Victorian Clothing. The music is the most important item in your budget. Skimp on everything but that. Let the invitations be worded formally, but not necessarily printed. Decorations can be the same as those listed in the Sweet Sixteen Party except use a Victorian Design wallpaper to make fans. Let younger brothers & sisters open the door and attend your cloakroom. You and Mother greet the guests. When the guests arrive welcome them with soft background music and a full punch bowl to be available throughout the evening. Have a buffet supper at midnight, perhaps. Remember that gentleman serve ladies. Little extras: good ventilation, good lighting, a dressing room for girls complete with powder puffs, and one for fellows with a mirror to straighten their ties. Plan on a Paul Jones very early in the evening plus novelty dances. Father's responsibility is to dance with the ladies that haven't been asked, or to suggest that a nearby gentleman do so.

"This is Your Life" Party - A party for a special friend of long standing, who is moving away or going to college. Make a recording, "This Is Your Life," complete with voices of friends, school-teachers, and so forth. Let the school song be the musical background. Visit our graduation ideas page for details on having a "This is Your Life" Party.

House-to-House Party - A progressive party where a food course is consumed at each house visited.
Misfit Party - Dress: Wear combinations of clothing ordinarily not worn, as bathing suit with furs. Give prize to the most original outfit.

Platter Dance - Blast from the past! Hang up a few dozen records (visit an antique store or make from back poster board)--on walls of your party room. Serve: cola drinks, platter cookies. Frost round cookies with chocolate frosting, with circle of white in the center. With cake decorator, print name of "record" on each. Play 50s music for dancing. Visit our 50s theme page for other decorations and party items.

have a great party! good luck!

Alyssa Cla

My daughter is 3 years old in June and we decided on a camp out party theme. I am looking for some ideas on activities to do with the kids. There will be more adults than kids at the party, but I would still like to have activities that both adults and kids can do that relate to the theme. Thanks in advance!

Answer
You could do a scavenger hunt, flash light tag, s'mores, have jars so the kids can catch fireflies, tell spooky stories (age appropriate), make up camp fire songs.

Looking for ideas for a fun teenage B-Day party in Camarillo or surrounding area, can you help?

Ahhhhh

There are no Dave and Busters or any real exciting avenue that I can see. We moved here from Hawaii, and needless to say the amount of party ideas are almost non-existent in comparison. I was hoping for Dave and Busters but that is over an hour away. Something fun where teenagers can be kids, not looking in the mirror worrying about is my hair OK.

Answer
go camping

Who has fun Photo Birthday Invitations that are cheap?

I'm really struggling to find affordable photo birthday invitations for my special 7 year old niece. All I can find are either really cheap looking cards with cartoon characters, or very expensive traditional birthday invitations. I can't see spending $1.75 a card on this - especially with the economy these days. I'm looking for designer "style" without the designer price, so nice looking regular photo cards will have to do.

Any ideas or experience?

Answer
I totally agree about the cartoonish designs... I've used the site below before. There are a TON of places where you can get really nice looking invitations without paying a fortune.

http://www.photoaffections.com/shop/photo-birthday-invitations-girls

Etsy is another good place to look. You can get some pretty cheap prices... not sure about how the transaction works though.

Good luck - and have fun at the party!

What job is appropriate for a 15 year old?

Hannah

I would really love to earn some money doing something i enjoy (who wouldnt right) but i was thinking maybe one of those at home sales things like pampered chef party lite and lia sophia but i think you have to be 18 to do that. i enjoy selling things and earning commission for it. or it could even just be a regular part time job. just anything you can come up with. so any ideas?

Answer
Here's a short list of jobs in the U.S., Canada and Europe which you can create to generate income:

1. Learn calligraphy so that you can provide handwritten invitations and thank you notes to prospective wedding parties, birthday celebrations, etc. Seek out clients through wedding planners at nearby churches and temples. A starter calligraphy kit usually runs around $20 and anyone can easily pick up this skill. The going rate is usually $1 per hand addressed item.

2. Seek from your neighbors a gardner position which involves planting, weed removal, plant/tree trimming, light brush clearance. You will be using the neighbor's equipment and tools. Again, do not represent yourself as a lawn mower since there are any number of safety issues involved. A door-to-door solicitation of surrounding neighbors is required and you can charge between $6 to $9 per hour.

3. Offer policing/removal or clearance of trash services to surrounding neighbors which involve trash pickup within nearby residential area. Limit the extent of pickup to small areas and be aware that there are no hazardous terrain or elements involved in this process. Again, a door-to-door solicitation of neighbors is in order. You can charge between $6.75 to $7.50 per hour.

4. Acquire a set of window cleaning tools [a bucket, liquid window cleaner, sponge, squeegee, handle with an extension and a small step ladder] and solicit local businesses for your window cleaning services. However, be careful to limit the height of the window cleaning to no higher than one story. Charge $1 per window panel.

5. Visit your nearest beauty salon and ask to be trained as a shampoo person who is also willing to sweep up fallen hair on the ground and do set ups [arranging dye kits, curler holders, etc.] for a set hourly fee.

6. Become a sign flipper by contacting your nearest realtor. A flipper is someone who stands at a major intersection and flips a "For Lease/Rental" sign in order to attract visitors to an open house or to a particular real estate listing. The hourly pay is at least the minimum wage.

7. Why not become a paid feeder servicing the disabled at nearby nursing, convalescent, assisted living/care centers and hospitals. It involves feeding food to patients who are unable to feed themselves. The starting rate is $8.00 per hour. The only downside is that one has to take precautions to wash one's hands after each feeding. A posting of your services [by a business card or flyer] on a reviewable bulletin board would be enough to generate customers. The paid feeder position is one of the fastest growing occupation at this time.

Good luck!

What do you do for a slumber party?

Claire

I'm having a slumber party for my birthday and I have no clue what to do. I have thought of a few things but not good ones, like waterballon fights.
sorry i said this late but the ages are 8 to 10

Answer
well...the previous sleeping bag rolling down the stairs answer seems a bit dangerous, in my opinion, but when I was younger I use to get some movies, and some girly things like nail polish and hair accessories. I wouldnt advice boardgames...but waterballoon fighting is an excellent idea!! also, if the weather is nice enough you could put a tent up in the backyard and camp out there, it always feels so much cooler cuz your parents are in the next room. lol. Good luck with your slumber party and happy birthday!

Ideas to throw a surprise 80's theme party for a 40 year old?

birthday party invitations 40th image

808baby

My husband is turning 40 in March and I want to throw him a surprise birthday party with a 80's theme. Any input for the planning process?

Answer
I actually have recently been helping a friend do this kind of party.. so here are some of my notes that I have that I sent her.. unfortunately not all of them have links to where I got the info.

Play movies from the 80s on TV, while also playing music from the 80s. have your guests come dressed from the 80s, or as their favorite 80s character.
Movies:
ET
Top Gun
Stand By Me
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
The Breakfast Club
Rain Man
Sixteen Candles
Pretty In Pink

For the invitations make sure you use some 80s speak.. "You're, like, totally invited" or "It'll be totally gnarly if you aren't there'." (got this idea from someone else)

Decorations:

Colors-Bright! Magenta, turquoise, lime green and anything fluorescent is great. Streamers, balloons and confetti in bright metallic is also good. Visit party supply stores and thrift stores to find games and toys that celebrate the 80s mood. Rubik's Cubes (you can find "new ones at discount stores), Connect Four, Cabbage Patch dolls, Garbage Pail kids bubblegum cards, Care Bears, Smurfs, you know the drill. Pull out the old Atari 2600 and fire it up! Everybody loves Pac Man! If you don't have your old Atari 2600, borrow your kid brothers Nintendo 64. There are some great arcade classics available at your local store. A working Simon (there are hand held varieties sold at discount stores) and Speak and Spell are always a blast too! Find your old, (or get them at a thrift store) scratched up vinyl albums and hang them from the ceiling with fishing line and tacks for added effect. Pick up some movie and band posters from the 80's.

Cake:

Bake three 8x8 square cakes and stack them on top of each other with layers of frosting in between. Decorate with colored frostings in red, blue, green, yellow and white so that is looks like a Rubik's cube! Use black licorice frosting to define the edges of each "cube."

Or, if you are really lucky, you can score an old Strawberry Shortcake or Smurf cake pan on eBay and decorate it appropriately.

Snacks:

Every successful soiree must have snacks...here's some that will add to the fun.

Combos
Twizzlers (make your mouth happy...)
String Cheese
Rice Cakes
Fig Newtons (but in other favors like raspberry and strawberry)
Microwave Popcorn
Jelly Belly Jelly beans! (Ronnie's favorite!)
Jell-O Pudding Pops
Hot Pockets

Refreshments:

Nonalcoholic:
Tang
Coca-Cola
Capri Sun
Pepsi
Drink boxes
Fresca
Mountain Dew
Jolt Cola
Tab

Alcoholic:
Wine Coolers
Wine in a box
Rolling Rock

Goodie Bags:

Fill with candies that any child of the 80s loves.

Pop Rocks
Big League Chew
Bubble Yum
Bottle Caps
Fruit roll-ups
Carmellos
Bottle Caps
Jolly Ranchers
Gummi Worms
Nerds
Reese's Pieces
Gummy Bears
Fun Dip
Perrier

Why not throw in a Rubik's cube? ->

80's Trivia games. There are tons of them on the web. Make up your own lists and give away prizes like Cabbage Patch dolls, t-shirts with nifty sayings of the decade or little Rubik's cubes.

How about a lip-synch contest?

Ask guests to bring a photo of them from the 80's and tape them up. Have a contest to see who can guess the most right answers.

Play 80's movies on a television, or on multiple sets. If you have the time and inclination you could make a compilation of your favorite scenes from 80's flicks.

Pin up poster boards and ask guests to contribute their best, worst and funniest experiences of the 80's. (e.g. What was your wost hair day? Who was your favorite Pop group and why?)

How do I word on an invitation to tell people to bring $$ for drinks?

tomihairs

I am hosting a 40th birthday party at a party room at a restaurant. I plan on paying for some of the drinks but not all of them; like $300.00. After that guests are on their own. Should average out to about 2 drinks a person. I feel I should include it on the invitation just to let people know. How should I word it.?

Answer
You don't. If you are hosting a party, then by definition, you host the bar. Otherwise, you are coordinating the party.

Instead, you should spend the $300 to buy 10 bottles of wine and place them on the tables. Then, people can either drink the wine or buy from the cash bar.

I'm having a birthday party for 3 cousin boys whose birthday's are all within the same month. Rather than have 3 separate parties, we're throwing one big party. How do we word the invitation so that people know that they don't have to buy 3 gifts but only for the boy they would normally buy a gift for? As if the parties were 3 separate ones.

Answer
I agree with B. Have each family send invites to people that know their child that they want there with the party details and then designate someone with a list of common family members to mail those with the same details.
On party day you may want to have parents greet the guests so they can accept the gifts for their child and set them aside until later for their child to open so no one is mixed up or lost in the process. It may also be something to consider in letting them open gifts at home after the party so if someone didn't have as a big of a turn out there are no hard feelings or upset between the kids (depending on how old they are, you didn't say). That way if someone ends up with 10 things and someone else only ends up with 4 or 5 by attendees at the party no one feels slighted.

My Grandmother is turning 90 in August, what type of party would be the best to throw for her?

KathyB

I am throwing her a birthday party.. an open invitation for all of her family members... and I was wondering as to where to start as far as food is concerned... go potluck? or where do I start in making and buying the food??? Any advice will be appreciated. Right now, i'm starting at scratch!
No sarcasms pls.. i'm serious about this.

Answer
Keep in mind that Grandma's appetite is probably a lot smaller than when she was younger and she may have a bit more trouble eating some things so keep it simple. Nothing hard or messy to eat like ribs. Potluck works well especially if you give each person an idea of what to bring so you don't end up with duplicates of everything. Different kinds of meatballs ( sweet and sour, etc. ), fried chicken, salads, fancy finger sandwiches, pickles, olives, a variety of cheeses, lasagna, coldcuts, devilled eggs, some homemade bread or rolls, and a variety of squares, cookies and dainties (as they used to call them), ice cold lemon aide and lots of tea. If Grandma enjoys a certain alcoholic beverage have it on hand or a bottle of champayne for a toast to her health. She will probably not have the stamina to handle a party that goes on for hours so by keeping the time for heating up or preparing foods to a minimum more time can be spent visiting with her. If it's a nice day outside decorate the yard with balloons and streamers with a specially decorated chair for grandma and have the party outdoors picnic style. She probably doesn't get to spend as much time outside as she used to and would really enjoy it. Tape some old music that was popular in her younger years to play in the background with a special song just for her,( let me call you sweetheart?) and get her up to waltz to it if shes able. If not type out the words to some old songs, hand them out to everyone and sing along with her. Get the kids to put together a skit to perform for her. Seniors love remenising so perhaps search out the internet put together a list of things that happened the day or year she was born and read them to her. A birthday cake should be the highlight of the day. Take lots of pictures and present her with a Signed guestbook as a keepsake of her special day. On my Mothers 80th and my Fathers 90th birthdays we contacted the Government and they were given beautiful commemorative plaques and framed certificates and congratulatory letters from the government. I don't know if they do that where you live but my parents felt so honored by this.
Please excuse spelling errors...spell check not working.

I am trying to plan a surprise 50th birthday for my mom. She loves France and could quite possibly be her favorite place but she hasn't been there in decades! So I thought France would be a perfect theme, but I have never been there and don't really know much about France so it is hard for me to plan it. I really want to plan a great party any ideas? pictures for reference would be great! p.s. I am planning on making the center pieces and invitations by hand... I'm big on DIY projects.

Answer
Rillifane has good ideas. Also, you might want to write a few things in French.

Happy Birthday : Joyeux anniversaire

You are invited to the birthday of.... : Vous êtes cordialement invité à la fête anniversaire de...

French writing is cursive, no block letters. Here is a good example of it :
http://php.educanet2.ch/epcorgemont/spip/IMG/jpg/modele_ecriture_scripte.jpg

If you eat a French meal don't forget the cheeses (to be served between the main course and desert), to be eaten with bread and red wine.

If you are serving a buffet you might want to have a map of France and some food for each region, with a little flag with the name of the region by the plate. You can find a few recipes here:

My brothers and I are throwing my mom a surprise birthday party. We need help with wording the invitations. They have to be in spanish.

Answer
I'm going to give you a link to a great translator sponsored by Google. It's free. You just put in the language to translate from which will be English and then select the language to be translated to which will be Spanish. Then in the box you type in what you want it to say and it translates it for you as you type. It's pretty awesome. Here's the link:

what do i write for an Armenian 50th birthday invitation?

helloo

ok so me and my mom,and my sister are throwing my dad a 50th birthdsy at a fancy retsturant and we are making the invatations what should we write

Answer
Well, if you want it in Armenian language and you live around Glendale, Ca. you just have to go to any print shop(Armenian) and they have lots of things to offer. In English too.
but if you are making the card yourself, then you can use something like this,

In English?

"......" is turning 50, how time flies!
Please join us in a party
And lets celebrate, there will be great food, music and dance!
Make sure to keep it a surprise!

Õ¬ÖÕ¡Õ¶Õ¸ÖÕ´ Õ§ Õ´Õ¥Ö ÕÕ«ÖÕ¥Õ¬Õ« "......"- Õ« Õ°Õ«Õ½Õ¸ÖÕ¶Õ¨
ÕÕ¶Õ¤ÖÕ¸ÖÕ´ Õ¥Õ¶Ö Õ´Õ¥Õ¦ Õ¸ÖÖÕ¡ÕÕ¡ÖÖÕ§Ö Õ±Õ¥Ö Õ¶Õ¥ÖÕ¯Õ¡ÕµÕ¸ÖÕ©Õ¥Õ¡Õ´Õ¡Õ¢!
Õ¬Õ«Õ¶Õ¥Õ¬Õ¸Ö Õ§ Õ°Õ¡Õ´Õ¡Õ¤Õ¡Õ´ Õ³Õ¡Õ·Õ¥Ö, Õ¥ÖÕ¡ÕªÕ·Õ¿Õ¸ÖÕ©Õ«ÖÕ¶, Õ¥ÖÕ£ Õ¸Ö ÕºÕ¡Ö, Õ°Õ¡Õ³Õ¥Õ¬Õ« ÕªÕ¡Õ´Õ¡Õ¶Ö.

then ask them to keep the secret if that's going to be a surprise, and of course the RSVP thing.
well happy birthday to your dad, I hope you guys will have a good time.

How do I phrase a birthday invitation that lets my guests know that I am paying for the meal?

Marshele

I am planning my 18th birthday party right now. I am inviting about 40-50 people to go out to a restaurant. On the invitation, I'd like to let them know in a subtle but clear way that I am paying for their meals. How should I phrase it?

Answer
I assume food is free at a dinner party if nothing is said on the invitation. I have received invitations that say "cash bar" or "a $20 donation toward food and beverages will be greatly appreciated." I have been to many potlucks when it's a given it's a communal effort. I guess you might find an invitation that says something like "eat drink and be merry on me" but where I'm from (NYC), an invitation saying that you cordially invite me to celebrate your birthday at X restaurant means it's on you. Happy birthday--you're very generous.

Are party invitations usually this expensive?

Anonymous

I'm planning my sweet sixteen birthday party, and looking at invitations, I can't seem to find any less than a dollar per invite, most of them are quite a bit more than that, more towards two dollars. Since I will be needing 50-60 invitations, this usually adds up to somewhere between $80 and $110. Is this a normal/reasonable price for invitations?

Answer
You could find them cheaper somewhere. Its too much money. Happy Birthday!
