My birthday party is Friday The 13th (the movie) themed because I will be 13 and the party is on a Friday. I can't find anything for the party. Anything being; decorations, invitations, cake, and other stuff. I need soooo much help. My party is in a little less than a month and I need to start planning it. If you have any ideas pleaseeee post them below! Thank you!

Answer
Get your parents to open and Ebay account and look on Ebay. They have everything you need. Or, you could look for a party store in your area. They tend to have lots of things you can use for your party.

Where can I get Over the Top Invitations?

benben3501

Where can I buy Over-The Top invitations for a birthday party for a child turning 13 years old? Maybe the most 7 dollars each or around that price? I mean like Wedding invitations but for a party. Like an oversize Mardi-Gra mask with the details on the back or anything like that. The maximum I could spend on invitations if maybe $400. Links would be awesome!! Thanks!

Answer
Do you mean Sylvester Stallone Over the Top?

Wow, that's a pretty unique order, my friend. Your best bet might be to quickly check ebay, and if you find nothing, you might be able to hire a graphic designer to design them custom for you. It should cost less than 400, so you're ok budget wise.

My birthday is December 10, and I am planning on having my birthday party on the 15 or 16. I am not sure about the dates yet because I do have work, and my schedule might change.
The party is going to be a costume party, like the costumes you'd find at a Halloween store.
Also, I am only inviting 5 people, and I am afraid that only 1 or 2 will show. That is why I am asking this. So would it make sense to send them out now, so my friends will have time to get a costume, and whatever else they need?

Answer
Yes. When I turned 16 i gave my invitations a month and a half in advance, but i had over 200 people.

What would be a good invitation for a costume party that is not for Halloween?

babygurl_7

My friend and I are going to have a combined birthday party and want it to be a costume party. I can't find andy invitations for a costume party that doesn't have Halloween stuff on it. What aould be a good idea for a invitation?

Answer
Make cut outs of mask shaped cards, decorate them to look like masquerade masks and put the invite information on the back of the mask. If you go to one of those photo stores or a craft store you can find everything that you would need. Making them colorful and using glitter and stuff.

Hi I'm planning to throw a surprise birthday party for my girlfriend. I'm thinking of trying to get all of her friends together and surprising her. Thing is, I don't know where to throw it at, OR how to get started. Any ideas or good suggestions? If it helps, its gonna be in Houston so if you know any good places to book, thanks a bunch!! Good idea to throw it at a house or a public place?

Answer
Answer: I would start by asking her closest friends for ideas. They will have familiarity with the territory, available venues, and what may makes her rock. You are in Texas, how 'bout a ho down BBQ in a park. Perhaps her friends would volunteer their homes for you to host. Both the park and friends can save you lots of $ . They can help you with decorating, themes, invitations, another words all planning, and set up. Hell, they will probably do all the work lovingly. You will of course have to offer to pay them, and give them a small token of appreciation.

Should i go to the beach for my birthday ?

Danielle

Hello. I live in Houston, Texas and I'm 14 turning 15 in March. Well my birthday falls on the weekend and I'm not going to be in town. That week on will be spring break so i was wondering if i should have a party on the beach or go to the pier? Or should i do both? I really wanted to go to the Pleasure Pier in Galveston at night because the way it lights up and the lights reflect on the ocean. But before then, i want to go to Stewart Beach. What should i wear to the beach? What should i wear on top of my bathing suit? I want to stand out! While were at the beach, What should we do? Remember we're teens. What should i bring? What type of invitations? Etc. Please help!!! Thanks. Also, i need steps on planning this.

Answer
You can go to the beach during the day, then head on over to the pier at night. It is very pretty.

Looking for some food ideas for a first birthday party...?

Ginna

I'm doing a garden theme at a community center. I wanted to do something for the kids attending with their meal in a mini picnic basket. So I'm thinking PB&J cut into flowers and butterflies wrapped in wax paper.

For the adults I thought chicken and egg salad finger sandwiches, or maybe turkey club, and a soup.

I have a delicious chicken wing soup to make but I'm boy sure its good for everyone's palette.

Any other ideas?
I do know of nut allergies and will have sunbutter also as I know that is what those children substitute.

There's also ciliacs disease. So gluten free suggestions are appreciated too.

Answer
I'm planning a first birthday party too! Since our baby is only 1, the party is really for the guests, some of whom will be adults and some with be smaller children. I was thinking of doing a cupcake theme and having the kids make, bake, and then decorate their own cupcakes. I was thinking that it would be neat to take all the cupcakes that the kids made and place them together to form a number 1 - this will serve as the birthday cake for the baby. Then the kids can eat the cupcake that they just made. Add in some cookies, chips, fruits, and punch, and food for the kids is pretty much taken care of. I'm going to carry the cupcake theme to the invites and mail out one of these cupcake invitations: http://www.babycachet.com/Birthday_Invitations_with_Cupcakes_s/306.htm

For the adults, I was thinking of some thing unusual for food - maybe a platter of sushi - and some safer options like small sandwiches or pizza.

Do you HAVE to give out birthday party favor gift bags?

k9copsgrl

I'm doing a butterfly theme for my twins 4th, and it is expensive already! (However, I did get the butterfly invitations and decorations from a dollar store, and am embellishing the invitations with my own crafting as well) but we are getting a huge piñata which will have to be stuffed, and in the giant piñata not only will there be candy but balloons, some of the balloons will have "winner" paper inside them so there will be a small prize, (not to mention the cute bags that will have to be handed out for the kids to put their piñata candy in, "pin the dot decoration on the butterfly" game, I am doing these things for "thank you for coming" as people are leaving (https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAjDavsxpo4pzQzhRXC9PfsMbjgfiWwpVpIBh5KaUhsLaMvXvTIrd_LX7-DhvTpAViovjNhv9XtjqIYGGCshRxK4qNCwvg-IoaR3QcpboEhb89oLV4FwUh1AiuWG_PE5UBw-8WvHfAXhfr/s1600/DSC_0143.JPG) there will be a bouncy house rented too, not to mention 2 cakes (twins are 2 seperate kids after all!) and food. This is my first party to put together and yikes! would this one thing I ask be awful? I swear there were no such things as gift bags when I was a kid! :|
CRAP, wrong catagory! Well I'm gonna ask this in the other catagory I *thought* I clicked on LOL

Answer
No, you don't. You are doing quite enough - they are only 4, don't get carried away, that's more than enough already.

Q. I'm making birthday party invitations on Shutterfly. I would love if I could send my order to walmart, so I can pick them up and pay for them at Walmart. Is this possible? If not, what stores can you send your order too? Thanks so much!

Answer
Unfortunately Shutterfly does not have an existing partnership with Walmart. Shutterfly currently offers the ability for in store pickup with Target, Walgreens and CVS. Walgreens and CVS only offer glossy 4x6 prints. However, if you go to http://targetphoto.shutterfly.com and sign into your Shutterfly account, you can order glossy 4x6, 5x7, 8x10 and 4x8 photo cards. My Mom Birthday Party?

POTATOCHIP

So, my sister and I are going to throw my mom a surprise party. But, I don't know what to do for a mom. What do I do? If it helps She is turning forty-five.

Answer
You should begin by setting a budget. How much money do you have to spend? Are there any close relatives that can help you pay for it? Don't assume that just because you're organizing it, that you have to do all the work or pay for it all.

What does your mother like to do? Does she have a hobby?

Maybe she's always wanted to go somewhere (like Hawaii, Caribbean, Paris?) but has never been able to go. Make one of those places the theme for the party and set up your house, yard, or wherever, to look like that place. Once you have a theme, share the idea with your crew of helpers.

Give friends and family different jobs: Invitations, decorations. Let someone plan the menu, let another person ask close family and friends to help make food (unless you can afford to cater this party). Keep track of who has what job too & their emails & phone number.

Maybe you and your sister can write (or print out) some nice facts about your mother on pretty stationery, cut it into strips and then roll it up, tie it in a ribbon (like little scrolls) and put them in a basket. When guests arrive they can each take one out of the basket (sort of like a favor). If you're not having too many people and you have the time each guest can read their fact aloud. Otherwise people will just open them during the night and compare them!

Does someone you know play an instrument? Have CDs that she'd like?

Who do you know that would just love the chance to play photographer? Or else just put a few disposable cameras around and let everyone take photos.

Have a poster board with a picture of your mom doing something fun or one where she looks good, and have everyone sign it like one big card.

Once you pick your theme you'll be surprised at how easy it will be to think of things to do.

Most of all be prepared with a few tissues when she sees how much you loved her and how hard you all worked just to make her birthday so special!

What to write on my Birthday party invitation?

Woo, celebrating my birthday on December 11th (which is not my birthday, but very close to). :) I'm going to go roller skating. There will be about 10 people there, so I decided now is a good time to do the whole invitation thing. I don't want to do the whole, "You're invited!" cheesy thing. What can I write on the front that's appropriate for a 14th birthday party?

Answer
You can find a bunch of unique and compelling Birthday Invitations at http://www.invitation-templates.net/ You can see examples of what is written on these.

I need to start planning my birthday party now! Oh no! What should I do?

iheart_you

I was thinking about a roller skating party. Any ideas on how to decorate, what to eat, what to wear, and any other things? My birthday is on January 11th and I need to decide now to mail the invitations. Thanks! :) â¥

Answer
Hey!! When's your birthday??? A roller skating party sounds really awesome and super fun! Some other ideas though might be to go to a movie theater or mall, rock climbing, or even at an amusement park! For the roller skating party, I would decorate with cardboard snowflakes, fake snow, and try to make it as much of a winter wonderland as you can!! Food is a huge factor when planning a party! It is important to get something that everyone will like and is yummy!!! I would suggest ordering pizzas, bringing warm hot chocolate, and for snacks something like cookies, brownies, or chips!! Of course, no birthday would be complete without an ice cream cake! Choose your favorite flavor of cake (chocolate, vanilla, lemon, etc.) favorite ice cream flavor (cookies & cream, mint chocolate chip, strawberry, ect.) and there you go! You will definitely want to be warm at the party but not overly hot and sweaty! Maybe wear a light sweater, skirt with leggings, and warm socks with the skates!! Or you could wear a sweater with skinny jeans (regular jeans are fine too but I have found that skinny jeans go inside of skates better), mittens, and a nice scarf! Also, it would be cool if you gave away small goodie bags away at your party! I know that when my friends gave goodie bags away at their parties, it helped me to remember what a great time I had and you are giving them something as well as them giving you birthday gifts!! The goodie bags don't have to be expensive either! You can just put small items in them like lipgloss, chapstick , candy, stuffed animals, necklaces/bracelets, mittens, bubbles and anything else you think they may like! Games are really fun at parties too, so you guys can play truth or dare, board games, hide and seek, card games, or any new ones you can invent you own! The main thing is to make sure you have everything planned out for your birthday a few days in advance at least so that there will never be a dull moment at you party and everyone will have tons of fun!!

⥠I hope this helps! â¥
Happy Holidays!

XxXRoxiieX

HI my neise is having her birthday party in september on the 13th but she just got in a car crash and is now in a leg cast and shes really mad that theres nothing she can do. Any ideas?

Answer
I'm not sure how much mobility she has, or if she can go simple places by using crutches. Here are some ideas:

1.Go to the movies.

2.Host an in-home spa night: wear robes & slippers, cucumbers for the eyes, face masks, paint your nails, beauty products, etc.

3.Go on a mini road trip.

4. Go swimming.

5. Have a small camping trip in your back yard with sleeping bags, snacks, flashlights, and cake!

6. Get someone to teach something really neat like a private beading class.

7. Perhaps do a combination of some of the things listed above. You could even finish off the day with a fun activity like the two of you can bake and decorate your birthday cake with colored icing, sprinkles, and more.

P.S. - You could also do something specific to the area you live in. For example I live in San Francisco so I might go to the Exploritorium for the day, or to the IMAX theatre, or walk the golden gate bridge. Find out what fun things there are to do in your area.

Answer
my sister is graduating on the 24 and we are going to get some finger sandwhiches, chips, a salad from a salad shop, and cookies and cake. make it easy. people dont expect to have anything fancy at a graduation party. she is also doing it outside we are going to put tents, tables, and chairs up in the yard. Any suggestions for a Brown Bear book themed first birthday party?

My son is turning 1 in August and I am planning a party themed around Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? (a favorite of his). Does anyone have any suggestions how I can incorporate any elements of this book into his party? Invitations, cake, decorations, favors, etc. We're planning on low-key, but would like to put on a cute party for him. Thanks!

Answer
i would make color copies of each of the book's animals -- the red bird, blue horse, white dog, etc. then take them to kinkos and have them enlarged AND shrunk into bigger and smaller color copies. you can then make your own decorations with them since i don't believe (though i may be wrong) you can purchase decorations with those images. a good bakery will make a cake with any one of those animals on it if you provide the image. laminate some of the copies, cut around them, and glue them onto chopsticks or any other stick, then use that foam stuff (for fake flowers, etc...can get it at a craft store). stick the mounted characters into the foam and cover the foam with any decorative material to make table decorations/centerpieces. you can scan the images to make invitations. i am sure there are a bunch of other things you can think of once you have different sized animals printed up. great idea using the book -- ruby loves that one, too.edit: HA! judging from the answer above me, there is a much easier way :)

What file should I use to send an invitation?

Io

Lately I have been receiving invitations to birthday parties, meetings; baby showers, snack bar and ceremonies, but all lack a professional quality. Most of the invitations are made in Microsoft word then sent over without so much as converting the file into something appropriate. And what I receive is a mediocre invitation to an office lunch with the bosses.

Baby showers don't hide from the embarrassment with their cut and paste into publisher and sending the file over, and again, without converting it into something descent. And last my favorite, a wedding invitation as beautiful as can be sent over online like a cheap Christmas card. But at least the bride and groom had the decency to make it into a .pdf file how nice :).

However the deed is still done and I cannot find a suitable file that looks professional enough to send invitations over the internet without looking like a fool. Does anyone know a file that can make an invitation look great? Hopefully a file that (when clicked) the invitation pops up without any menus or the address you took it from nor will it need Microsoft media gallery to view it nor anything else at that matter. Just a simple 1280X720 image in your screen that pops up and a transparent X to close it when you are done reading it. No borders, no IP addresses, no WWW's, no nothing just a simple invitation in the middle of your screen when clicked. Does anyone know of any programs that do that? if the answer is no, than may I suggest that whatever computer wizard is looking at this message right now should get started on making such a program cause I know I would (or any company at that matter) pay to have their invitations sent over online looking professional and refine.
No jpegs please. jpegs are still used by MS photo previwer. I know some of you are going to say "just use jpeg" the point is to have it look professional.

Answer
there are these new contraptions...gadgets if you will, their called...LETTERS..their square shaped...some are pretty!!! some are scary. They come in all shapes and sizes! (I know, mind boggling.) So this is what you do, you use those things attached to your body, those are called legs, you take those and walk (exercise I know, who would ever do that?) to a store buy one or two, or as many as you want!!! and then you walk (yes, more exercise, I know its a task) to the nearest mailbox or carrier pigeon. I truly hope this helps...

Remember: take all proper precautions before this "exercise" that i speak of, stretch, drink water, turn off your computer etc etc.

What party could we have for our daughters soon to be 5?? ?

Danii Nich

Our daughter is 5 in january.. we have hired a hall & booking a dj, face painter and balloon modling.. ive got to order a cake but unsure what themes too have..
She has already had a 4 birthday themes
1- pink party (everything pink)
2- peppa pig
3- sealife
4- princess

We have now got ideas of minnie mouse, barbie, pink and sparkles.. any ideas pls help we havent really got a budget???

Answer
I think it really depends on what your daughter is interested in. My friend's had a Princess party for their daughter for her first birthday, and then this year they had a Rock Star party because she LOVES music. The invitations looked like concert tickets, and everyone was supposed to come in their best "rock star" clothes. It was a lot of fun, especially considering it was a 2 year old's party!

If your daughter is really into Minnie or Barbie, go with one of those. If she likes animals or Disney or anything else, maybe theme it around that? It's her party, what does she love?

What are some good ideas for a Sweet Sixteen?

Kendall

NO MASQUERADE OR RED CARPET PLEASE! <3 THANK YOU.

Answer
Have you seen Project X? If not then...

Step 1: Watch it
Step 2: Do it
Step 3: Invite me!

But seriously you should get a DJ have a good theme + music that everyone enjoys. Maybe Americas next top model could be your theme, or Luau, Camp, Sleepover, Pool party, 70's Party, Hotel Spa, Sports, Backyard Bash. Thing's you can do are Surfing, Skiing/Snowboarding, Rent a boat, Sky diving / indoor sky diving, Late night bungee jumping would be awesome. Some other thing's you might need...

First - good lighting.

If your in doors dim the lights or only turn on half, light plenty of candles, add a few tall paper corner lamps if possible. A good trick (if you have an outdoor area) is to put two handfuls of sand or gravel in the bottom of a small brown paper bag and then add one tea light candle to each bag. Fold the top of the bag over if it is too tall. Line these along paths and put a few in the garden, they look great!

Secondly - music
Don't just make a playlist- control the order the songs are played i.e. group similar songs together. Maybe hire a DJ if you're budget allows?

Thirdly - food & drinks!
Make sure there is heaps of water & other drinks easily available. Heaps of ice!
Make an effort with the snacks, don't just open a packet of chips. Be creative!
Make a dip or cheese platter, also ask a few guests to bring something homemade if possible.

Answer
You can design your invitatations online at CropMom at http://www.cropmom.com. Personally, I'd use a fun magazine cover theme using my own photos and adding my own headlines. You can find the magazine cover templates by clicking "start a new layout' then "open templates."

Places to print them: Shutterfly at http://www.shutterfly.com, Snapfish at http://www.snapfish.com or Vista Print at http://www.vistaprint.com.

rides, a water volleyball/basketball area and a lap pool), a natural rock climbing wall large enough to accommodate five climbers at one time, three full-sized gymnasiums, an adventure climbing center for young children, and family locker rooms.

The Center is situated on a 13-acre park-like site, surrounded on three sides by trails and city-owned open space.

The very cool (and rustic-looking) indoor adventure center is free of charge, and a life-saver when the weather outside is ugly. During staffed times, kids ages one to six must be accompanied by an adult. Children ages seven to 12 need not be accompanied by an adult; but, they will not be supervised by staff. During unstaffed times, children of all ages must be accompanied by an adult. 303.403.2599.

Skating lessons are available for kids ages six and up, including freestyle, dance, and "moves in the field." Private lessons may be arranged with the professional of your choice. Tot classes are offered for children ages four and five. 303.403.2598.

Punch cards and annual passes are available, offering significant savings for frequent visitors.

Getting There: Just west of Ward Road on 72nd Avenue. Take I-70 to Ward Road, then travel north to 72nd Avenue. Turn left on 72nd and the Center is on the left. Parking is free.

or why not the little gym

⢠Location: 9126 West Bowles Avenue #2B, Littleton, CO 80123
⢠Neighborhood: Littleton/Lone Tree
⢠Phone: 303.730.8099
⢠Fax: 303.933.9910

⢠Email: tlgwestlittletonco@thelittlegym.com
⢠Web: http://www.tlgwestlittletonco.com

The Little Gym offers age-appropriate movement and gymnastics for kids at all levels of experience.

A room painted with

brightly colored murals, filled with gymnastics equipment of all sorts, offers lots to do and plenty of room to run around. Instructors are friendly and professional, and work at knowing children by name and at including them in the action.

Classes for younger children follow the same pattern every week, so kids know what to expect. The instructor leads songs and fun group activities and teaches basic gymnastics skills, and kids have time for free play and ball play.

Older children learn tumbling and apparatus skills, while gradeschoolers build on those skills in a non-competitive environment. Advanced gymnastics classes, by invitation, are also available for kids ages three-12. Infants to three-year-olds attend with a caregiver, while kids over three attend on their own.

Birthday parties are held on Saturday afternoons and Sundays only. Summer and holiday camps are also offered.

So I am throwing my best friend a surprise sweet sixteen party and it is going to be 80s themed. I can't really figure out how to do the invites..I have to send some through e-mail to her camp friends and some in person..Please help!!
Okay, so I was thinking of making records as the actual invites and then having the envelopes as the album cover. However, I can't think of a cute poem or saying to put inside..

If you were an adult in at a kids bowling would you expect to bowl?

Thinking of hosting a bowling birthday party for my 4 year old. Of course, I will pay for all of the kids, but I don't want to pay for the adults to bowl- it isn't really for them. My expectation would be that the adults either don't bowl or they cover the cost themselves. Does this seem rude? Should I say something on the invitation?
@Henry- Yes my 4yo loves bowling! On the East Coast there is such a thing called duckpin bowling with very small balls suitable for little kids. They do bowling parties at the local lane around $14 bucks a kid.

Answer
No I would not. When my niece was turning 6 she had a bowling party. The parents helped the kids bowl and but they did not bowl themselves. Aiding a small child in bowling and keeping an eye on them was more than enough for us to do. My sister-in law did provide enough food and drinks for the parents as well which I thought was appropriate.

Do you have any ideas for a candy-themed birthday party for a 14 year old?

Carly

I am having a birthday party. I need some ideas still.. About anything, decorations, games, anything

Answer
One idea I really liked for a wedding that can easily be adopted for your party is the Candy Bar. I think it was a Martha Stewart idea. She had big jars and bowls of different kinds of candies, and guests were able to make up their own little bags as favors to take home. Pick kid-friendly candies

http://www.candyfavorites.com/shop//catalog-wedding-candy.php

Orientaltrading.com will have TONS of relatively inexpensive things you can use for the party as well.

Here are some other good ideas.

http://www.interactiveparty.com/index.php?category=more&id=46

And this is from Party411.com

Invitations

Tie the party information to a large colorful lollipop or a small bag of candy.

Use cute decorative bags filled with yummy treats and a little piece of paper describing all the party details to invite your friends to the sweetest party of the year.

Are you looking for something that will double as both an invitation and a party favor? Hand-deliver a T-shirt to each guest. Make sure that the party details are printed on the back of the shirt, while a picture of a giant piece of candy that says, "(Your name)'s Sweet Shop" decorates the front of the shirt. Roll up the shirts and tie each end with ribbon so that they truly look like big Tootsie Rolls®.

Decorations

First of all, post signs near the entrance to the party that point to the party room and say, "(Name of guest of honor)'s Sweet Shop Now Open for Business" or "Feed your sweet tooth this way." A cutout of the host/hostess surrounded by candy is most appropriate standing in the doorway as well.

A colorful balloon arch is also a great idea for brightening up the entrance to the party. Ask your local balloon person to show you the M&M balloons that are available in primary colors (the red one is good for you, too). Another cool decoration to have at the party entrance is a giant colorful balloon lollipop or even a balloon lollipop bouquet. Or maybe candy heart balloons are right for your party.

For a really creative and wacky way to welcome your guests, write a poem on a large piece of poster board that uses the names of different kinds of candy throughout the poem. Place the actual candies in place of the words for a cute sign to invite your guests into the party in a very sweet way. Something like--

"You're a lifesaver for coming to my party! Don't snickerâ¦I really mean it!"

As your guests walk into the party area they will see piñatas hanging from the ceiling and all over the walls for added decoration as well as an activity for later (they are filled with candy, of course!).

Centerpieces

Want a great centerpiece. Use a Junk Food Boxâa basket filled with candy pops, cookies, jelly beans and more. Give these to children's hospitals or an orphanage as a gift when the party is over. You'll feel great about it! To make them extra special, tie some balloons off in your favorite colors. Scatter miniature wrapped candies around the base as confettiâand what a great look! And you're so charitable!

For a more casual look, set up a few very long tables with different kinds of miniature candies such as Hershey Kisses, individually wrapped Lifesavers, Starlight Mints, etc. all over each table. There is also confetti in the shape of Hershey Kisses available and it looks adorable spread out all over the tables. Center a few baskets full of goodies throughout each table so that the guests can munch on sweets all through the evening.

If you are looking for a cool idea that is a bit more formal, place a mini gumball machine filled with gumballs on each table and tie balloons to each machine. If you would rather not use gumballs for every machine, fill one machine with jelly beans, one with Lemon Heads, another with M&Ms, etc. These are available at any toy store.

Tables

Name each table after a fictitious street with the name of a candy: Candy Cane Lane, Milky Way, Rolo Rd., etc. Then use the name on your seating cards. For example⦠everyone who is sitting at Candy Cane Lane (table 4, let's say), has a candy cane attached to their seating card to represent the table. You are so clever!

And finally, at each place, put candy-colored lip whistles; these are too cool. Your friends will love them.

More Seating Card Ideas

For another inventive seating card idea, give each guest his or her own Hershey Bar that comes complete with his or her seating assignment either on the inside or outside of the wrapper. We can put your face on it and other special things about you. Available from our custom shop!

Or you can tie each seating card to a colorfully swirled lollipop or a fun and different Pez dispenser. The Pez dispenser (with candy) can also serve as part of the take home favor at the end of the night (people collect those things, you know).

Finally, candy bracelets or necklaces make adorably festive napkin rings to bring flatware and other table decorations together.

Menu

Start your sweet party off with a selection of appetizers like wings or ribs in sweet barbecue sauce, fried sweet potatoes, "sweet-ish" meatballs, etc. Sweet and Sour pork or chicken is the perfect main course, accompanied by sweet and sour soup. A selection of sweet strawberries, pineapple, and other fruits are a welcome addition to any such dinner. For dessert, have a "candy bar". I don't mean an actual bar of chocolate, but a large table filled with bags and bowls and absolute mountains of all kinds of candy. Each guest may fill a small bag full of candy from this table. Eat some candy for dessert and take the rest home for a favor. Of course, don't forget the cake and the "make your own sundae" bar complete with candy toppings.

What to Wear

At a sweet party like this, what to wear is up to you. Your attire really depends on the party's location (check with the party hostess if you're unsure). Although with all of the chocolate that will be lurking around for this party you might want to stay away from wearing anything that is easily stained. For example, that new cream-colored mohair turtleneck sweater that you have been saving for the perfect party will have to stay in your drawer for at least one more night.

If the party is in a warehouse, make sure to dress warm if it takes place during the winter. Most warehouses are especially drafty during the winter months.

Games and Activities

A piñata is always fun. Take turns swinging at several piñatas filled with candy! Divide the party into teams and have the teams compete to be the first to bust their piñata and retrieve the candy.

For a really good time, try a scavenger hunt. This is a game that is usually relatively inexpensive and time- consuming. Give the partygoers clues that take them from place to place. Perhaps this game could begin at the house of the party host/hostess, and the final clue could lead to the party destination. The team that arrives at the final destination first wins! (Or instead of a scavenger hunt have a treasure hunt). Set out prizes (choose from our list of favors below) all over the place and have guests collect them (one of the dinkiest prizes should have a special sticker on it that can be traded in for a really cool prize).

Another fun game is Name that Candy. It will help break the ice by throwing people together for some healthy competition. For this game, you will need to split all of your guests into two teams. Give a numbered piece of paper to each team. Across from each number is a "candy clue." For example, the clue for number one could be "mean laughs." The candy that matches this clue is "Snickers." The clue for number 2 could be, "Lip smackers," and the candy that matches this could be "(Hershey) Kisses." The clue for number 3 could be "Cow's that can't lactate," and the candy that matches it could be "Milk Duds." I think you get the idea. The team who matches the most "candy clues" to the correct candy wins a prize. I'll give you a hint about what the prize should be: It's sweet, and sometimes has fruity or cocoa flavoringâ¦

How much to spend on a first birthday party?

Brycen's M

I am curious if anyone knows how much to spend on a child's first birthday party? We are friends with the couple, as my husband knew the father in HS and they have reconnected within the last 1.5 years. Also, they sent a Toys R Us registry with the invitation. I was going to buy clothes, but now I am questioning what to do. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

Answer
It just depends on what you can afford. I think for a first birthday $10-25 is appropriate unless you have lots of money. If you can only afford an inexpensive gift, make sure it is nicely packaged and wrapped to show that you care :)
