My mom is turning 60 this year and I'm throwing her a surprise party. Does anybody have any ideas for some kind of games or activities to do? Anything is appreciated!

Answer
Someone was going to do a surprise party for my 50th, but I found out & was glad it wasn't a surprise & could help in the planning, plan what to wear, & look forward to it. Surprise parties are dreadful. We got a free room at a local pizza & pasta place as long as we guaranteed 20 people. Invited about 75 to get 20. Someone made my favorite apple cake, & restaurant provided cake table similar to luggage rack. Did a 10-minute decorating job with construction paper numbers somebody had made for short party at work & the regular balloons not helium. Also, brought my crystal jar filled with Hershey's Kisses for dessert. Was fine. Invited whole families so parents wouldn't need to get sitters. (a few friends with late-in-life kids while in their 40's--maybe 6 or 7 kids)

I cut out comic strips from the newspaper & used white-out on some panels, glued them onto an 8 1/2 X 11 paper & mailed with the invitations for people to make up their own captions. Was things like Cathy trying on bras & Hagar & wife with a log, crashing a party, etc. That went well, but then had about 3 people judging the contest. That was stupid & too time-consuming. Should have just passed them around.

Prizes were cheap magnets from Big Lots & a package of incense, things I had around, etc. Should have just bought party favors from the party store for everyone. I wasn't used to giving parties.

Wanted to find words to well-known songs like She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain & Someone's in the Kitchen with Dinah & Beatles songs so there would be something for the kids to do, too. I wanted to photocopy the words. A friend vetoed that & said I should just ask kids what they like to sing. As it happened we didn't have time for the singing due to contest judging. Kids sat at their own table & colored pictures provided by restaurant. Should have done it my way since I think singalongs are fun for both kids & adults.

Regardless of that, it was the most wonderful night of my life. Was in wool aqua dress, which fits nicely. Should have had somebody taking pictures because it was so much fun. I gave little 1-minute speech thanking people for attending & saying I only wished I could have sat next to each one. Glad I had the presence of mind to do that. After cake & all, I went around the room & talked to each person so that everyone had my attention for awhile, although I did greet everyone, too, when each arrived.

One thing I started doing when helping with people's b-day cakes is to cut one piece for the honoree, & place a candle on it to be blown out instead of blowing all over the whole cake with all the germs. Also, there are plastic cakes with holes for candles that preschoolers' Sunday school classes use for birthdays when there won't be any cake. One of those would work, too, for the candle blowing. Another thing you can do is to let each person at the party come up to light a candle & make a wish for the honoree, using a candle snuffer afterward, while still letting the honoree blow out the one candle or six or whatever.

I've been at h.s. class reunions with that game of trivia about the time period, such as price of postage at the time of graduation. Worked well with a large group with each table of people working together. We've also had ones about our h.s. class (not for your party) & for names of places in town that may be gone now, such as the miniature golf course or the hamburger hangout.

The one game I saw on that link that wasn't good was the penalty for loosing balance. That's touchy for seniors, so think of a way to get around that. Sorry to be negative about that one thing because overall, I think the links people have given you were fantastic.

Another game is to make something like Bingo cards that has written info about people attending, like who went to Japan last summer or who has taken a train trip or had a certain car during h.s. or who owns an I-phone or who knows the nickname of the jazz musician (Satchmo) or plays the drums or some other trivia or hobby or personal info. Participants mingle with each other with a time limit to try to fill in each other's names as the answer for each rectangle & at least get a Bingo. Might take several sheets to get everyone in. Also, you'd need to email everyone to find out this personal trivia like hobby or trip or whatever. This is a get-acquainted game but would also work for this. Can give prizes like candy for highest number of right answers, whole sheet, or a Bingo.

more re: party favors...my mother arranged a family reunion at an all-you-can-eat buffet place with a party room. Besides an address list revised at the party & mailed out later, she also had cleared out her souvenir tote bags from her travels & a few knick-knacks. She arranged them on a long table for each person to take one or two.

Remember to include on the invitations, Time, Where, When, Bring, And R.S.V.P.. Things you need to put on your invitation on what they need to bring: Tooth brush, Tooth Paste, Brush, Pillow, Sleeping bags, Pajamas' etc.. If you want to girl to have dinner at your house, Put on the bottom of the invitations Example: We will have pizza. If you would Like to print invitations go to google.com and search printable invitations.

Things to do:
Eat- Have stuff out such as, Candy, Pizza, Cheese sticks, Dip, Celery, soda's, Etc.
Open your presents- If it is a birthday party, Take your guest wherever you feel confortable opening presents at.
Nails- Nobody can beat doing nails at a party, Lay nail polish down on a table with newspapers under.

Talk- Take your guest in a room that feels like a good place for talking and talk away!
Craft- Have something fun for a craft
Dance- Turn on some fun tunes and dance!
Take pictures- If you have a camera, Take crazy pictures of eachother

Sparklers- go outside and do some sparklers! So pretty!
Relax- Get some foot bath salt and get your guest to sit on the edge of your tub and have a foot bath
Draw in the dark- It will get some laughs out! It is so fun to doodle in the dark!
Movie- Have a movie. Chick flicks are good.
Stuff- Buy some stuff at Walmart or Target for your guest to do if they get bored.
Treasure hunt- Have a Treasure hunt with little stuff like pencils, silly bandz, mini purse, etc..
Magazines- Lay out magazines for you and your guest to look at.

Morning time:
Get up- Get dressed, Do your hair, etc.

I'm planning a 50th birthday party for my husband. I would like to know if someone can recommend?

Keisha G

a store in New Jersey that makes elegant/amazing invitations. My husband is a golf freak.

Answer
Many of the Hallmark and card stores carry invitation books for all occassions. I simply went through a local Hallmark store in Clark, NJ for my wedding invitations.

You might also want to see if there are any scrapbookers who will be willing to make your golf invitations. Check out local Yahoo groups, or your local Craigslist under the WANTED section.

Good luck!

my daughter LOVES animals, unfortunately her birthday is in january and i cant have a petting zoo party, someone said i should do it at the local shelter? is this even possible? She is 5.

Answer
What a great idea. Maybe when you contact the shelter you could suggest that your guest will make donations to the shelter and mention that on the invitations. Shelters never have enough money. Sounds like so much fun!

I was wondering if you have some great poems for a 4 year old 's birthday?

LB due 27

It's my 4 Year old nieces birthday 2day, do you have any funny poems 2 make her laugh?

Answer
Yes.

Your Zoo

A birthday should always be a joyous occasion,
Family and friends; obvious invasion.
Duplicate gifts, you donât even like,
If you complain, might get a strike.

One simple day, placed on display,
Carefully observed, for signs of decay.
Dishonest smiles, they donât mingle in truth,
As if you were the only, losing your youth.

At such a wise age, everything seems so clear,
Excuse to celebrate, they all came for beer.
Deep down inside, you know that they care,
Your Zoo is unique, normal is rare.

The following funny birthday poem was written for my dear friend Jackie, who celebrated her 25th birthday. Feel free to share it with someone in your life.

Lifeâs Journey

It only happens once each year,
Book the train and pack your gear.
Your destination seems unknown,
As you sit there, all alone.

Something internal, in a rush,
Just like the toilet, we usually flush.
Constantly staring at the clock,
Are you waiting for your flock?

Savour the moment, donât wait for the end,
Nobody knows, if you may extend.
Journey divided into equal parts,
Today is another, weâll add to the charts.

Your train has left, from the town of birth,
Hopefully located, on planet earth.
The next stop, might seem the same,
It shall reveal, what you became.

Are you celebrating someones birthday this summer? Then maybe you will enjoy sharing the following funny birthday poem:)

Summer is finally here!

Here's that Summer birthday poem that I promised to share with everyone. Enjoy!

Summer

Comes around just once each year,
Creates a stunning atmosphere.
A heated party, beginning till end,
The place to be is Disneyland.

Enjoyment and smiles, plentiful and ripe,
Abundant activities, deserving the hype.
Waters edges, they all seem to swarm,
Sandy days, with Sunny and Warm.

Summers birthday, they all wish to join,
She barbeques delicious sirloin.
Do not upset her, sheâll send in the rain,
Random weather cannot explain.

Ageless wonder, since birth we have known,
Temperature rising, statistics have shown.
Share your birthday with Summer our dear,
Through thoughtful actions protect our blue sphere.

Age is just a number. Isn't that what we try to tell our family and friends on their birthdays?

Age and Laughter

Happy birthday, youâre not getting old,
Stay in the game, itâs not time to fold.
Wrinkles and grey hair, are just a new look,
Countless experiences, you should write in a book.

A birthday is seldom, a serious occasion,
Try not to take it, like the d-day invasion.
Laughter and jokes are within sight,
Stock up on both, all through the night.

Young at Heart

Happy birthday young at heart,
So many decades, where to start?
With energy, like that pink bunny,
You make us look lazy, thatâs not funny!

Never-ending old school ways,
Filled with stories, to Amaze!
Listening has been lost with age,
You belong on theatre stage.

If you manage to forget,
Weâll remind you, donât you fret.
Happy birthday young at heart,
Smile with joy, you old fart.

Elephant Frown

Today is your birthday, donât pull your hair,
Look in the mirror, nature was fair.
Not a day over twenty,
Iâm kidding! youâre plenty.

Donât mean to burst your bubble,
But stop asking for trouble.
You know what I mean,
When you drink that caffeine.

What should I bring?
Just give me a ring.
Elephant or Clown?
I knew you would frown.

Kangaroo Birthday Fight

Birthday dream last night,
Kangaroo was in my sight,
Charged with all his might,
Unavoidable boxing fight.

Surprised me with his flight,
Reached, enormous height,
Smiled and revealed his bite,
This created all my fright.

Weakened muscles were too tight,
My chances were truly slight,
Internal resistance to incite,
Grasped, conclusion of polite.

Suddenly, to my true delight,
Victory! A birthday gift was in my sight,
Kangaroo began his flight,
To the rescue came the night.

Should McCain rent a train and speak to the nation off the back of the club car?

Pragmatism

He's got to get his message out somehow, and the media has all but ignored him. Too busy hanging out with their new savior...

What else could McCain do to get the word out?

Please, refrain from answers that ONLY promote candidates. Address my question if you would be so kind.

Answer
McCain really needs to concretely define himself. Yes, he's a conservative but he's trying to play to all sides of the party at this point and he needs to set in stone where he stands so that voters can more readily identify with him. He also needs a catch phrase that works. Obama has cornered the market on "Change", "Hope", and "Yes, We Can!"; McCain's "Straight Talk Express" is not a catch phrase that excites the base...it's just a description of his campaign. Younger voters, especially, would pick up on the whole catch phrase notion if McCain had a really good one. Speaking of the youth vote, it's essential that McCain have a good web campaign. Look at what Obama has been able to accomplish online and even Ron Paul, for that matter. McCain should take a page from Mike Huckabee's notebook on the matter: Have funny, user-created videos on his site or blog (encourages participation); reach out to bloggers via conference calls (which makes him appear more accessible to voters); have a user-friendly website (steers surfers to interact within the site); have group meets of like-minded voters (to brainstorm and bring in more votes...everyone likes to feel wanted and part of something bigger). Some of these ideas come from a nonprofit marketing site. Surely, there are many other grass root efforts that can be put in motion to help further his message. And, don't rule out yard signs. I have to say, I've yet to see ONE McCain bumper sticker or yard sign or any type of ad for him in my area. I do, however, see Ron Paul signs and stickers and have seen a couple of Obama's. Seems that someone in McCain's camp should be organizing these things on a local level...I'm just not seeing it, and therein lies part of the problem (lack of organization), along with the obvious media bias.

Halloween Costume ideas for a group of 8 girls?

Mena

I'm looking for new, creative ideas for a group of 8 women (27 yrs old) to be for Halloween this year? Each year we host a party and we have a costume theme for each of us. We have already been different versions of Madonnas, Beauty Queens and last year we were the cast from Clue. Any new ideas will be great!!!

Answer
How about scream queens? You could all be Crystal Lake Camp counselors, there's sure to be someone dressed as Jason to complete the set. Some of you could even be a bit hacked up, as Jason has already started his rampage.

There is a discussion of this and some twists to the Friday the 13th theme on the Group Costumes Ideas blog, http://groupcostumeideas.net

Q. Ya know, that type of thing. No boys, still in the stagte that there gross. Its a Question for my cousin. Just a birthday party, she wants one of them big ones, not a quiet sleepover type..... thanks, and no spam plz!

Answer
Make really cute invitations. Like not cards, but fliers. They are a little more original. Don't have a theme, cause themes are more babyish. Have music, food, games, and stuff like that. Its best if you don't have board games. Games like spin-the-bottle, truth-or-dare, and stuff like that are cool. Instead of constantly having everyone there socialize, sorta let everyone do there own thing. They don't always have to be all together playing games. Just chill out. You could even do prank phone calls.lol. Maybe pool tables, ping pong, air hockey, and stuff like that keep them occupied too. Take it from me, I'm 13 too, and I'm a party specialist.lol

A good Job For 14 year old?

lildub612

im 14 and im looking for a job. i live in garden city michigan. im looking for anything paying the $7.50- ?. the only bad thing is that, i play travel hockey and im usually on the ice about 3-4 times a week. and i have games on different days every week. any suggestions?

Answer
Here's a short list of jobs which you can create to generate income:

1. Learn calligraphy so that you can provide handwritten invitations and thank you notes to prospective wedding parties, birthday celebrations, etc. Seek out clients through wedding planners at nearby churches and temples. A starter calligraphy kit usually runs around $20 and anyone can easily pick up this skill. The going rate is usually $1 per hand addressed item.

2. Seek from your neighbors a gardner position which involves planting, weed removal, plant/tree trimming, light brush clearance. You will be using the neighbor's equipment and tools. Again, do not represent yourself as a lawn mower since there are any number of safety issues involved. A door-to-door solicitation of surrounding neighbors is required and you can charge between $6 to $9 per hour.

3. Offer policing/removal or clearance of trash services to surrounding neighbors which involve trash pickup within nearby residential area. Limit the extent of pickup to small areas and be aware that there are no hazardous terrain or elements involved in this process. Again, a door-to-door solicitation of neighbors is in order. You can charge between $6.75 to $7.50 per hour.

4. Acquire a set of window cleaning tools [a bucket, liquid window cleaner, sponge, squeegee, handle with an extension and a small step ladder] and solicit local businesses for your window cleaning services. However, be careful to limit the height of the window cleaning to no higher than one story. Charge $1 per window panel.

5. Why not become a paid feeder servicing the disabled at nearby nursing, convalescent, assisted living/care centers and hospitals. It involves feeding food to patients who are unable to feed themselves. The starting rate is $8.00 per hour. The only downside is that one has to take precautions to wash one's hands after each feeding. A posting of your services [by a business card or flyer] on a reviewable bulletin board would be enough to generate customers. The paid feeder position is one of the fastest growing occupation at this time.

Good luck!

eBay and online sites would be your best bet.

how do you handle birthday invitations at school?

birthday party invitations for 80 year old image
Q. My 4 year old's school lets the parents give invitations through the school. I kind of think it blows because uninvited kids must feel rotten. My daughter, for instance, invited 80% of her class. There was a limit on the number of kids she could invite to the birthday party place. The other kids must quickly understand they aren't invited. My wife takes care of this stuff and everyone does it this way at the school.

Does your kid's school handle birthdays this way? Do you think it is a poor system?

Answer
On one hand, it makes me feel bad for the other kids. On the other hand, it wasn't the big of a deal in past generations. Kids were taught that sometimes, you just didn't get picked (whether it be sports, friends, etc.) So, maybe it's not as big of a deal as we try to make it out to be.

We homeschool, so I have no personal experience with my kids concerning this issue.

Ideas to throw a surprise 80's theme party for a 40 year old?

808baby

My husband is turning 40 in March and I want to throw him a surprise birthday party with a 80's theme. Any input for the planning process?

Answer
I actually have recently been helping a friend do this kind of party.. so here are some of my notes that I have that I sent her.. unfortunately not all of them have links to where I got the info.

Play movies from the 80s on TV, while also playing music from the 80s. have your guests come dressed from the 80s, or as their favorite 80s character.
Movies:
ET
Top Gun
Stand By Me
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
The Breakfast Club
Rain Man
Sixteen Candles
Pretty In Pink

For the invitations make sure you use some 80s speak.. "You're, like, totally invited" or "It'll be totally gnarly if you aren't there'." (got this idea from someone else)

Decorations:

Colors-Bright! Magenta, turquoise, lime green and anything fluorescent is great. Streamers, balloons and confetti in bright metallic is also good. Visit party supply stores and thrift stores to find games and toys that celebrate the 80s mood. Rubik's Cubes (you can find "new ones at discount stores), Connect Four, Cabbage Patch dolls, Garbage Pail kids bubblegum cards, Care Bears, Smurfs, you know the drill. Pull out the old Atari 2600 and fire it up! Everybody loves Pac Man! If you don't have your old Atari 2600, borrow your kid brothers Nintendo 64. There are some great arcade classics available at your local store. A working Simon (there are hand held varieties sold at discount stores) and Speak and Spell are always a blast too! Find your old, (or get them at a thrift store) scratched up vinyl albums and hang them from the ceiling with fishing line and tacks for added effect. Pick up some movie and band posters from the 80's.

Cake:

Bake three 8x8 square cakes and stack them on top of each other with layers of frosting in between. Decorate with colored frostings in red, blue, green, yellow and white so that is looks like a Rubik's cube! Use black licorice frosting to define the edges of each "cube."

Or, if you are really lucky, you can score an old Strawberry Shortcake or Smurf cake pan on eBay and decorate it appropriately.

Snacks:

Every successful soiree must have snacks...here's some that will add to the fun.

Combos
Twizzlers (make your mouth happy...)
String Cheese
Rice Cakes
Fig Newtons (but in other favors like raspberry and strawberry)
Microwave Popcorn
Jelly Belly Jelly beans! (Ronnie's favorite!)
Jell-O Pudding Pops
Hot Pockets

Refreshments:

Nonalcoholic:
Tang
Coca-Cola
Capri Sun
Pepsi
Drink boxes
Fresca
Mountain Dew
Jolt Cola
Tab

Alcoholic:
Wine Coolers
Wine in a box
Rolling Rock

Goodie Bags:

Fill with candies that any child of the 80s loves.

Pop Rocks
Big League Chew
Bubble Yum
Bottle Caps
Fruit roll-ups
Carmellos
Bottle Caps
Jolly Ranchers
Gummi Worms
Nerds
Reese's Pieces
Gummy Bears
Fun Dip
Perrier

Why not throw in a Rubik's cube? ->

Entertainment:
80's trivia would be an awesome game, you could google it and find lots of info.. Costume contest. This is a given. You could have a variety of categories from best look-a-like to worst and so on.

80's Trivia games. There are tons of them on the web. Make up your own lists and give away prizes like Cabbage Patch dolls, t-shirts with nifty sayings of the decade or little Rubik's cubes.

How about a lip-synch contest?

Ask guests to bring a photo of them from the 80's and tape them up. Have a contest to see who can guess the most right answers.

Play 80's movies on a television, or on multiple sets. If you have the time and inclination you could make a compilation of your favorite scenes from 80's flicks.

I need to make invitations for my birthday party.

Answer
Easy. Just go to the Microsoft Office Templates Page (http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/templates/default.aspx) and download a birthday card invitation or get well template. Then just add text and you're done!

Does anyone know where I can get inexpensive invitations made?

Q. You know during Christmas time, people send out Christmas cards with pictures of their family and such? My friend wants to do the same type thing except for she wants invitations to a birthday party that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. She wants a collage on the invitations.
We checked out cvs and walgreenes but they are a little over budget : /

Answer
Office max is super cheap and has a ton of viriates.

I am planning my wedding and my dream is to get married in a small church Up North in the fall. I want a place surrounded by trees and the place unfortunately cant be TOO small as my fiance and i both have relatively large families

Answer
Addison Oaks, Leonard

So some relatives might call it ugly, but the English Tudor-style mansion that sits among 750 acres of woodlands and lakes is the most magical place.

The French country decor is easy to get used to after seeing the private bridal suite upstairs, then walking back down stairs. A bride can truly picture taking that walk on her wedding day and it's an amazing feeling. It's like knowing when a dress is the one, so long as it's not outside the budget.

Touring the building and the grounds feels like a stroll through a relative's house. It's just that cozy. The outdoor garden ceremony is picture perfect, just like the movies. Vast windows and a wood deck look out onto the lake. Honeymooning can start early at the park's campgrounds or cabins.

Hartwick Pines, Grayling

Sitting among 49 acres of magnificent, old growth white pines, is the little Chapel of the Pines. It's set so far from anything ordinary that it's the perfect spot for those who are just in awe of nature.

Foot trails lead you from a visitor center, through the forest and up to the chapel, and is all handicap accessible! Stay and camp at Hartwick pines, rustic style or in one of their cabins, or one of the many bed and breakfasts in the great up north. For information call the park office at 989 348-7068.

Castle Farms, Charlevoix

Want to feel like a princess goddess and still have the outdoorsy, unique wedding of your dreams?

Castle Gardens offers both of those, even if the couple is not from the area. It's totally worth the weekend trip for family members. Who doesn't want to party in a castle? Your guests can stroll the halls and marvel at the beauty of the building and its grounds.

The ceremonies are held in the courtyard, where the bride and groom and their guests are surrounded by the brick and cobblestone walls of the castle. An indoor chapel is also an option for the bride and groom.

Can you recommend some fun tiki hut or juke joint party decorations?

Kilroy Rob

At camp, we have a open air building made of rough cut lumber and not painted. It is used for our parties. I'd like to make it feel more fun and exotic. Something like a Tiki hut or a juke joint. I don't need or want high-end or "classy" items....just fun lights, signs, etc. Any suggestions? I want to have fun with this......

Help me with my daughter's Hannah Montana theme birthday party?

Ok, my 5 year old daughter turns 6 next month, and she wants to have a Hannah Montana birthday party for her friends. I need help with Hannah themed games.

I am making the invitations, and they will look like concert tickets. Games, I was thinking of something like a Miley/Hannah makeover, Karoke to Hannah Montana Songs.

What are some other good ideas for games?

Answer
Buy her the Hannah Montana trivia game for her birthday! Make a Hannah Montana trivia game. I like the karoake idea too! Watch Hannah Montana at the party. Also stick pictures of characters on the kids back as they come in, and people have to give them clues about which character it is. When they've guessed their character they get a prize.

What are some good ideas for a 16th birthday party?

Aria Song

I wanna throw a really good birthday party b/c it is my 16th. However, I can't spend a ton of money on it and I don't have very many ideas.

Answer
Congrats. Do you participate in any school activities that you enjoy? Why not try one of those as a theme???
Try Some Of These:
-Sweet 16 Beach Party Theme

Get wet and wild with a sweet 16 beach party theme! There are several locations you can have your party at besides the beach, tons of games and water activities to play, great food and music and much more!

-Sweet 16 Black and White Party

A black and white sweet 16 party theme is great for larger parties, formal parties, or just plain black and white decorated parties!

-Super Sweet Candy Party

-Caribbean Party

Do the limbo with all your friends at your sweet 16 Caribbean party! Play some cool reggae music and steel drums. Make your own pine trees for decoration. Use beach style invitations...

-Sweet 16 New Years Bash

It is a well known fact that new years is one of the worlds most spectacular holidays. Everyone has loads of fun and parties the night away. Celebrate your birthday with a new years theme that you'll never forget.

-Night Club Theme Party

A super sweet sixteen night club party is one of my personal favorite sweet 16 party themes! The dark and glowing night club feel, colorful strobe lights hitting the dance floor, glowing in the dark; whatâs there not to love?

how do i word an invitaion for a 65th birthday dinnertellthe guestthat they will have to pay for their meal?

I am having a 65th b-day dinner for my mom. I want to send out invitations but need a way to tell the guest that they will have to pay for their meals if the decide to come. They have three different meals to choose from and it includes their dessert . Please Help....Thanks

Answer
Just include it in the details. I just had a big birthday party for my 40th and I don't think anybody was offended with my way of doing it.

I said where, when, described the food and entertainment, and listed the prices for adults and kids and asked them to pay me which I then took care of with the manager.

Do yourself a favor and have a list of who is coming and how much they owe. That way you can check off who came so the restaurant doesn't overcharge you and you can mark off who paid.

It worked like a charm for me and everyone had a blast.

Pin up poster boards and ask guests to contribute their best, worst and funniest experiences of the 80's. (e.g. What was your wost hair day? Who was your favorite Pop group and why?)

I've booked tents at a water sports club.
So far i've planned renting equipment such as surfboards and body boards and also a bonfire.
What activities can we do? and what food should i buy to cook in the bonfire?
Additional info: 16 year olds girl's party, on a beach.

Answer
Me and a couple friends got a branch off a tree and sharpened all of it's limbs and put a bunch of hotdogs on it. got one person on each end and spun it next to the fire for a few minutes. Don't actually put it in the flame. that was impressive and got some people excited. so yes, you can mass cook hot dogs on a bonfire!

Any birthday invitation ideas for Mixed martial Arts fanatic especially UFC & IFL?

justcuriou

It's his 40th surprise birthday party. I want the invitation to be themed with MMA.

Answer
Send octagon shaped invitations with the number 40 in the middle. Look at the cards the ring girls hold up to signify which round it is for some inspiration.

In the inside spatter some red food coloring (dip a small paintbrush in it and flick it at the paper) after you print the invitation.

Make sure you are wearing a sports bra and boy-shorts to the party (like a ring girl), and you need to blow the guests lots of kisses.

If any of the guests tries to get touchy with you, a rear naked choke is a polite way to say "no" and it doesn't leave marks.

Any suggestions for a Brown Bear book themed first birthday party?

My son is turning 1 in August and I am planning a party themed around Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? (a favorite of his). Does anyone have any suggestions how I can incorporate any elements of this book into his party? Invitations, cake, decorations, favors, etc. We're planning on low-key, but would like to put on a cute party for him. Thanks!

Answer
i would make color copies of each of the book's animals -- the red bird, blue horse, white dog, etc. then take them to kinkos and have them enlarged AND shrunk into bigger and smaller color copies. you can then make your own decorations with them since i don't believe (though i may be wrong) you can purchase decorations with those images. a good bakery will make a cake with any one of those animals on it if you provide the image. laminate some of the copies, cut around them, and glue them onto chopsticks or any other stick, then use that foam stuff (for fake flowers, etc...can get it at a craft store). stick the mounted characters into the foam and cover the foam with any decorative material to make table decorations/centerpieces. you can scan the images to make invitations. i am sure there are a bunch of other things you can think of once you have different sized animals printed up. great idea using the book -- ruby loves that one, too.edit: HA! judging from the answer above me, there is a much easier way :)

What file should I use to send an invitation?

Io

Lately I have been receiving invitations to birthday parties, meetings; baby showers, snack bar and ceremonies, but all lack a professional quality. Most of the invitations are made in Microsoft word then sent over without so much as converting the file into something appropriate. And what I receive is a mediocre invitation to an office lunch with the bosses.

Baby showers don't hide from the embarrassment with their cut and paste into publisher and sending the file over, and again, without converting it into something descent. And last my favorite, a wedding invitation as beautiful as can be sent over online like a cheap Christmas card. But at least the bride and groom had the decency to make it into a .pdf file how nice :).

However the deed is still done and I cannot find a suitable file that looks professional enough to send invitations over the internet without looking like a fool. Does anyone know a file that can make an invitation look great? Hopefully a file that (when clicked) the invitation pops up without any menus or the address you took it from nor will it need Microsoft media gallery to view it nor anything else at that matter. Just a simple 1280X720 image in your screen that pops up and a transparent X to close it when you are done reading it. No borders, no IP addresses, no WWW's, no nothing just a simple invitation in the middle of your screen when clicked. Does anyone know of any programs that do that? if the answer is no, than may I suggest that whatever computer wizard is looking at this message right now should get started on making such a program cause I know I would (or any company at that matter) pay to have their invitations sent over online looking professional and refine.
No jpegs please. jpegs are still used by MS photo previwer. I know some of you are going to say "just use jpeg" the point is to have it look professional.

Answer
there are these new contraptions...gadgets if you will, their called...LETTERS..their square shaped...some are pretty!!! some are scary. They come in all shapes and sizes! (I know, mind boggling.) So this is what you do, you use those things attached to your body, those are called legs, you take those and walk (exercise I know, who would ever do that?) to a store buy one or two, or as many as you want!!! and then you walk (yes, more exercise, I know its a task) to the nearest mailbox or carrier pigeon. I truly hope this helps...

Remember: take all proper precautions before this "exercise" that i speak of, stretch, drink water, turn off your computer etc etc.

Live, Love

Our son is wanting to get together with about six or seven of his closest friends for his "belated" birthday celebration. Our son loves the Wii video game and loves to hang out with his friends. He loves to draw, he's really good at it too! What type of party would you suggest that we have that won't break our wallet? We are on an extremely tight budget due to job pay cuts etc...We want our son to have a great and memorable party. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
I'd say a sleepover is a great idea. If he loves the Wii and his friends do, too, then just let them play the games that he already has. Maybe have a championship game for the top scorers.

For refreshments, most boys like brownies and chocolate chip cookies. You could have a birthday brownies or a birthday cookies.

Make your own sundaes. Vanilla ice cream. Chocolate Syrup, sprinkles, M & M's, nuts, cherries, etc. They will have fun doing this.

Since we're close to Halloween, you could go with a Halloween theme. Rent some scary movies. Maybe buy each boy a pumpkin to carve (or decorate with paint, fabric, etc, if you are more comfortable with that--grocery store is cheaper than a pumpkin farm). Have Halloween themed food (freeze spider rings or gummy worms) in ice trays for spooky ice cubes. Worms (slice hot dogs in long strips and boil in water and they'll curl up and look like worms). Mummy Dogs (hot dog wrapped with breadstick dough and bake and then put eyes on with mustard). Caramel Apples (you can make these ahead of time or let the boys dip them-roll in nuts or decorate with M&M's or candy corn). Drink hot cocoa with a floating eyeball (large marshmallow with Choc Chip inserted in the middle). Cupcakes or brownies decorated with Halloween decorations. Potato Bugs (tater tots inserted onto raw spahetti noodle and bake per directions-use catsup for the eyes. Wal-Mart has gummy eyeballs, worms, and spiders. There's also a severed foot or hand in the candy aisle that's gummy w/ some sort of hard candy in the middle-gross but good for 9 year old boys.

Pizza. Make your own, you can buy the crusts premade, use canned biscuits or make your own crusts and a wide variety of toppings. Or, Pizza Hut has the $5 Pizza Mia (a medium) but you have to buy at least 3 to get them for $5 each. They would be less mess and could be cheaper.

Do you have a yard? If so, a camp out. Pitch some tents, have the boys bring sleeping bags. Build a fire in a fire pit (if you have one). Roast hot dogs and make smores. Play horse shoes or ring toss or both. Hold sack races (you can use old pillow cases-can buy from Salvation Army for cheap). Buy some glow sticks or cheap flashlights for the kids to play with outside to tell ghost stories or play ghosts in the graveyard.

What is a good theme for a little kid's camp?

Riley

My friends and I are running our 5th annual kids camp! We are super excited, but we have no idea what we should make our theme. It is for kids ages 4-7. Please help me out and tell me some good themes. Thanks!

Mariana

We are huge Beatles fan and our son loves them too. He runs to the laptop when we play YouTube videos. Any ideas on decorations and food? Goodie bags? Thanks!!!

Answer
Hi :)
For Beatles party invitations, buy Beatles postcards or draw a yellow submarine on the front of a plain white card. On the inside, write, "Help! us Celebrate [name's] Birthday!" Include all necessary information including time, date, and how to RSVP.
The birthday cake could be a large square chocolate cake with "Beatles" spelled out in colored frosting flowers in order to make a Sgt. Pepper's Cake (it should look like the flower "bed" at the bottom of the album cover).
For food, serve a large submarine sandwich on platters decorated with "yellow submarine" written in script with yellow mustard.
Place "record bowls" on your table. Make them out of old record albums and clean and fill with chips and other side snacks.
Make a "strawberry field" by lining up strawberries on a platter.
Play Beatles music in the background of your party. When the cake is brought out, be sure to play the song "Birthday" from the White Album.
If possible, set up the Beatles Rock Band for Wii, Playstation 3 or XBox 360. Allow guests to play the game during the party and offer prizes for the best scores.
Decorate tables and counters with Beatles albums, CDs, and pictures. Decorate walls with posters of the Beatles, peace signs and British flags.
Give peace necklaces, Beatles buttons and smiley face items for favors; use 60s print bags and tie dye tissue to hold favors.
Stage an "Abbey Road" scene for pictures; use the album cover to create a street scene out of paper. Photograph guests imitating the Beatles on the album cover.

Hope this helped,

Ade :)

2. Become a "poser" who assists wedding photographers in setting and arranging various individuals in group and single photographic positions. "Posers" carry around a sketch book of various sitting and standing poses which consists of onion skin overlays of various wedding pictures bound in albums. Again, contact local wedding photographers and wedding planners, accordingly. The hourly pay is around $10-$12 per hour and you are often invited to attend all dining activities.

6. Become a proxy/stand-in for neighbors to allow delivery of goods and packages to your home/apartment. Acquire the authority to sign any receipt of incoming packages as an accepting neighbor. Charge $1 per each package handled by you.

7. Consider becoming a restaurant-cafe customer liaison by using your cell phone at restaurants-cafes to coordinate with the hostess to keep track of waiting customers. Whenever there's a very long period of time to activate a waiting list, you want to offer the restaurant your services so that customers do not have to stand around for any lengthy period of time. And when their name/assigned number comes up; you can call the upcoming customer's cell phone to tell them that they can return to the restaurant and be served. The call back fee is usually around $0.50 cents on a per head basis. For example, a couple would be charged $1.00 while children under 6 would not be charged. Placement of a plaque which outlines your fee schedule near the hostess station is sufficient to garner attention of prospective customers who will value your services since they can do other activities outside of the restaurant -- often beyond the range of any inhouse paging system. You realize that everyone has a cellphone and why not take advantage of the connectivity to make the diner's experience worthwhile. The restaurant will also appreciate the added service you are providing as a customer liaison.

Good luck!
