I need help coming up with a funny/cute saying for an invitation to my boyfriends 25th birthday. I am inviting friends and family to be at the local bar to help celebrate his birthday (surprise)
I will be buying everyone's first drink and also there will be some appetizers and a cake
Answer
First off, since it is at a bar, are you paying the tab? Providing food, or doing any of the things that make this a "party" ?
It's better to be up front on what this is before issuing invitations. I think you are arranging a surprise for your bf at Joe's Bar, not a party. So give some details and you'll get some good answers.

SURPRISE PARTY AT JOE'S BAR
FOR JOHNNIE' 25th!!
Saturday January 1, 8pm until ???
124 Main Street. Anytown
Snacks served
No host bar
Bring your coupon for first drink free.

Then using a business card template make a coupon and enclose in the envelop. Pay the bartender by the number of coupons received, but I think most people will not use the coupon and that will save you some money. Good luck.

Graduation/25th Birthday?

Hi! I live in Miami but am having a graduation/25th birthday party at home in Baltimore - this is where most of my family/friends are. I've rented a small area of a bar for a nominal fee but overall the expenses of the trip are high. My celebration is really an excuse to get together with the people that I adore most and celebrate an exciting time in my life. I have to send invitations as there are a couple folks who don't check their email and I don't have a whole lot of time to call (17 credit hours and full time work to wrap up the summer). What I'd really like to do is send a "Dutch Dinner & Drinks" invitation and I'll pick up desert. How do I do this so it's not tacky? Everyone knows I'm coming home from far away - it'll be a very casual, laid back event. I've read on here how it's awful to do the dutch thing but I'm not sure I have any other options. I can't use someone's house and picking up the entire cost is unrealistic but I want to see everyone & won't be home long.
Answer
I'd send an invitation that said something like 'Join me at X to celebrate my birthday/graduation with drinks, dinner and dessert! The dessert will be my treat!
This definitely implies that they are responsible for their own dinner and drinks! Congrats!!
