how should i word a masquerade ball invitation?

i'm having a masquerade ball for my 21st
and i'm unsure as to how to word the invitation. i thought i'd start with a quote about a masked ball and then go on to listing the date, time, venue, etc. i'd like it to sound formal, but not over the top.
and i'd like the guests to bring gifts for a charity organisation instead of for me... any suggestions on how to put this in writing without sounding too official?

Any mention of gifts on any invitation is against proper etiquette. In fact it is downright rude and low class.

My 21st birthday party is in November and I am looking for an appropriate quote for the invitations - can be inspirational, funny from a poem or song - something about growing up or living life, or just something random....Any ideas??

Since I assume this will be an alcoholic event I would suggest a toast. If you and your friends have something that you always say when toasting drinks use that - it will be meaningful, representative of you and is fitting with the occasion.

If you don't have a favorite toast here are a couple of my old stand bys with a bit of tweaking to be more fitting of a birthday and/or to keep it unisex.

hi im a BIG TWILIGHT fan and well for my birthday party i would like a twilight theme.
i was wondering if you you could give me ideas for Food,decorations, activities, and other things you think i should do for my birthday?

Tell your friends to come dressed up as their favorite character. Or give fangs to anyone that comes it, you can get them at like the dollar store.

Decorations: Red, Black, White. Tie them in together. Get places with this color. Get posters, or write quotes from the book on poster boards and post them all over the room. Balloons: the same colors, it would look good if some of them were on the floor too. And on the make table put some apples, and pictures of the cast from twilight and the book series would looks amazing as a centerpiece.Try putting some roses too, it looks great.

For invitations : create some online, that will work perfectly.

For cakes: I suggest this one...

or you can just go to sam's and have them put a picture of the cast for like 21.00

Food: Red fruit punch of course. Hmm, you can have Doritos, since their red, and maybe some black chips, I'm not so sure about food. I got lost, maybe some with like devil in the name, deviled eggs, etc.

Entertainment: Have a twilight movie trivia and a book trivia. Watch the movie, or have some of your friends act out some of the scenes from the movie.

Try to have a twilight music playlist in the background. Debussi, Muse, and alot of the stuff from like that movie Underworld. Works perfectly.

Party favors: you can find like twilight bookmarks or stuff like that, and there are some things i've seen in stores.

How can I give my family a hint that I dislike when they arrive late to a Birthday Party?

My sons birthday was yesterday and like always my family arrives late and there excuse is " That just how are family is, we are late everywhere we go" It's annoying when they show up 3hrs. late. I put in the invitation 1pm- 5pm and they arrive at 4pm when basically everything is almost over. How can I give them a hint that I dislike that, or like some type of quote so I can post it, so they can read it.
