My daughters first birthday is coming up soon and it's going to lady bug themed... I have pretty much everything set for it ( table ware, out fit, banner, cake ordered, etc...) but Instead of buy id like to make my own centerpiece decorations. Ill only need about 4. Any good ideas?

Also what are some good ideas for party favors or goodie bags for the kids attending? What do I put in them besides candy?

Thanks for help in advance!

Answer
If your theme is ladybug, then I would put things that are black and/or red or things that have polka dots in the goodie bags. Some ideas for the boys: balloons, little bouncy balls, pencils, erasers, bubbles. For the girls: toy lip gloss, bracelet bands, toy rings, note pads. Sounds like you have most of what you need already, but you didn't mention the invites. I saw an invitation here that would go well with your lady bug theme: http://www.babycachet.com/Flower_Lady_Bug_Birthday_Invitations_p/mdid0103.htm

Ideas for a 6year olds party!?!?

MAKE THIS A PARTY TO REMEMBER. vIDEO TAPE IT AND Take plenty of pictures so he can laugh at it 20 years later.

Write down a list of people your little one would want to invite to the party, about three weeks before the celebration. The list may include some of your son's classmates, friends from church, cousins and close family friends with children who are close in age to your child. For a smaller crowd, choose six guests from the list that your child would want to celebrate her birthday with.

Choose a theme for the party. If your little girl loves gardening, a birthday party with a flower or ladybug theme is best. If your son has become interested in sports, a party with a basketball or soccer theme will make his sixth birthday memorable.

Determine the venue for the party. If you only have a few of your son's or daughter's friends over to celebrate, your home or backyard may be suitable. If most of the kids in your son's class are attending, the local park could be a better choice.

Plan the menu. Include a general array of kid-friendly foods, or organize a menu that fits with the birthday party theme. For example, if your daughter wants a tea party for her birthday, bake a selection of cookies shaped like the number six and iced in her favorite color. Or, you can simply put together a menu most 6-year-olds would enjoy: i.e., mini-pizzas, a sundae bar, chips and cookies.

Create invitations that specifically announce your child's sixth birthday. Use phrases like "(Birthday boy)'s turning 6!" or cut out a large number 6 from invitation stock paper and add six stickers to the front of the invite. Choose colors or shapes for the invitation decorations that are among your child's favorites.

Send out invitations about two weeks before the party. Include essential details like the time the party starts, where it will take place, and the party date. Request an RSVP at the bottom of the invitation so that parents can confirm their child's attendance.

Purchase the party decorations and other supplies you'll need for the celebration. Streamers, a tablecloth and balloons will make the main party table especially festive, and a cutout of your child's favorite cartoon character can be taped to the doors or windows of the party space. Buy the items you'll need to keep the theme consistent as well. For instance, if your 6- year-old loves doing crafts, buy beads and string so that the guests can create necklaces and bracelets at the party.

Order the birthday cake, or prepare it the day before the party. Include your child's favorite colors in the icing, along with six brightly colored candles, or a large candle in the shape of the number 6.

Create party favors that display the party's theme for guests to take home, such as magnets or picture frames in the shape of the number 6. If your son's birthday party has a basketball theme, purchase orange circular gift bags; fill the bags with candy, mini-posters of basketball players, and a tiny replica of a basketball.
