I am mom to 4 kids who are now 29, 27, 23, and 11. The 11 year old is a girl. With our kids, we always let them choose what they wanted to do to celebrate their birthdays. Sometimes they'd pick a party with their friends, sometimes it would be take one friend to a special event such as a sports game or a movie or a concert. When my youngest turned 11 this past July she chose to go camping for a long weekend and we invited some family members to join us for her favorite meal of tin foil dinners and S'Mores. Let your daughter decide what she wants to do. Give her some options if she can't decide. The year my son turned 12 we took a train to Toronto to see Phantom of the Opera. Another year he invited a friend to spend the weekend with our family at a nearby hotel that has an indoor pool and entertainment center with game room, mini golf etc. Some years we just go out to eat at the birthday person's favorite restuarant or I cook their favorite meal at home. I say ask your daughter what she wants to do.

MY DAUGHTER IS TURNING 6 YEARS OLD WHAT KIND OF PARTY IS SHE SUPPOSE TO HAVE?

SHE HAS HAD PRINCESS PARTIES SINCE SHE WAS 2.....I NEED A NEW IDEA???

Answer
"Supposed to" have? I don't think there's any kind of party she's "supposed to" have. What does SHE want to do? What is she interested in? Think of what characters, TV shows, movies, or books she likes. If you can think of it, there'll be ideas for it on the internet. I always asked my daughter and let her decide what to do at her party. Go on the internet and google "birthday party 6 year old girl" and you'll find TONS of ideas. Read over them with her and plan it together.

When my daughter was 6 she had her first sleepover birthday party. Girls who wanted could sleep over or they could be picked up at bedtime if they wanted. Girls also knew (and parents) that they could call their parents or call their parents to come pick them up at any time during the night. Only one girl went home at bedtime. The rest stayed and loved their first sleepover party!!

We hadn't done a princess theme yet, so at my daughter's 6th they wore their fanciest dress, made tiaras from pipe cleaners and shiny beads, and watched Princess Diaries.

A camp out theme would be fun. My daughter has also done a "model" party (they made up costumes, did hair and make-up, and had a runway and I taped it) at age 8, an indoor beach party at 9. I can't really remember her other ones. LOL The kids would probably just like a game or two, a craft, pizza, lots of snacks, and a movie or two. Sleep over optional.
