My son turns 6 next month and we are trying to figure out what to do about a birthday party. The kids that would be attending range in age from 4 to 12. We've done the whole Chuck E Cheese thing and are looking for something new that isn't outrageously expensive.

This is a great age to have a surprise party!
And a great time of year to have it at a park.
Since it sounds like he is entering Kindegarten or
First Grade, you can invite his class without a huge
overhead cost. Ask the teacher to put invitations
within their take home work (they can't read them
yet!). Have a "Surprise Cook-out Party"!
Have it next a playground area. Get a Pinata.
Play freeze tag. Added fun is having balls, hoola
hoops, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk (purchase at
the dollar store and give them to your son after
the party!). The kids will have a blast! Love the site
