How do I word a party invitation to where I want parents to pay their own way?

A couple of years ago, we had our daughter's 3rd birthday party at a petting zoo farm. We paid for everybody's entrance fee but some of our invitees ended up bringing "extra people" that we did not know. Our fee ended up being pretty high since we paid for adults and kids. This year we were planning on having it at the same place but didn't want the same thing to happen to us. I wanted to word the party invitation to where we would cover the cost of the kids but parents/adults had to pay their own way. What do y'all think?

You can say something like "Please RSVP whether your child will be attending. An accurate head count is needed so that we may get a group rate for the children." OR
"Children attending the party will get free admittance to the zoo". OR "Your child's admission fee will be taken care of for the party."

my daughter LOVES animals, unfortunately her birthday is in january and i cant have a petting zoo party, someone said i should do it at the local shelter? is this even possible? She is 5.

What a great idea. Maybe when you contact the shelter you could suggest that your guest will make donations to the shelter and mention that on the invitations. Shelters never have enough money. Sounds like so much fun!
